Joel Kiviranta has always been the type of player who quietly proves his worth with clutch goals, gritty shifts, and consistent hustle. Now the 29-year-old Finnish forward gets his next chance in Denver after the Colorado Avalanche came to terms on a one-year contract with him for the 2025–26
NHL
season.

Joel Kiviranta secures contract after breakout season
The Colorado Avalanche have given Joel Kiviranta another 1-year deal worth $1.25 million (AAV) after his career-best campaign in 2024-25. Kiviranta appeared in 79 regular-season games and made the most of his ice time, setting career highs in goals with 16 and points at 23. He put up three multi-goal games in December alone and netted his first-ever hat trick on December 22 against Seattle.
These numbers were not just padded stats but came when they meant so much for Colorado.

He also tallied two winning goals for the first time in his career, delineating his ability to draw on muscle in clutch situations. As time passed, Kiviranta found yet another gear and notched a four-game goal streak in March, indicating confidence and rhythm. Carrying the momentum into the playoffs, his all-situation trust did not wane throughout the Avalanche's seven-game postseason journey.
General Manager Chris MacFarland noted that Kiviranta has developed dramatically, especially at five-on-five, enjoying great responsibility and becoming extremely important in the team concept.

The journey of Kiviranta up to this point is as impressive as his current game. Entering the NHL as an undrafted free agent in 2019, he has since placed himself in the limelight as a dependable, hard-working forward. Countless hours have culminated in 298 career NHL games with 60 points, and yet he keeps on evolving his game.
