A woman's chin was left to rot after laser surgery was allegedly performed without a medical licence.
Gabriela Pereira, 29, was arrested by police last week after performing the horror surgery at Tonya Beauty in Orlando on April 16, 2024.
During the procedure, the patient was allegedly burned by the laser after it was sitting too long on her chin, causing necrosis and painful blistering. The patient is said to have returned to the clinic eight times in an attempt to correct the botched procedure. It comes after a British man's final row with daughter-in-law before 'trying to drown her abroad.'
According to investigators, patient Kelly Coelho had visited the spa multiple times to receive botox but could not afford the £700 laser treatment.
Pereira allegedly offered to do the procedure on the hotel cleaner for free in exchange for posting pictures of her results on the Tonyabeauty Instagram account, which has more than four million followers.
"Pereira provided the services in exchange for (the patient) allowing Tonya Beauty to use her photos online as a model," the affidavit says.
The suspect posed as a technician with a medical licence, according to police. "Tonya Beauty is a very popular clinic among Brazilians, with a lot of actresses and singers coming from Brazil to get procedures done," the affidavit says.
"They are very popular on social media, including Instagram, and are known to have gained the trust of Brazilians for cosmetic procedures in the United States."
An arrest warrant for Pereira was filed on July 29. She faces nine counts of practicing medicine without a license, nine counts of practicing a health care profession without a valid license, and two counts of dispensing medical drugs without a licence.
"You go there trusting that they're going to do what you contacted them for and do a good job," Coelho's lawyer Felipe Mavromatis told Koco News.
Tonya Beauty hit back on its Instagram page and insisted it had all necessary licences .
"With over 10 years of experience in the market, we have built a solid reputation based on trust, professionalism, and excellence in advanced aesthetics," the post said.
Tonya Beauty has been approached by The Mirror for comment.
It comes after a botched surgery in New York saw a young mum die after she was operated on by a fake doctor.
María Paz Peñaloza visited Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, 37, from New York, on March 28 to remove her butt implants after he reportedly posed as a plastic surgeon on TikTok.
The 31-year-old visited the so-called clinic for the £1,400 procedure when Hoyos-Foronda, who claimed to be a certified doctor from Colombia, administered lidocaine to Peñaloza through a syringe.
Within minutes of being injected with the local anaesthetic to numb the area, María suffered a cardiac arrest. She was rushed to the hospital but died two weeks later after her life support was turned off as she had "no brain activity", her heartbroken family said.
