Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association to defend pair of division one titles at Country Championships

Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association will be looking to defend their pair of division one titles at the hockey Country Championships over the next two weekends in Perth. The women's championships will be staged from Friday to Sunday before the men's tournament takes place over the same days next week. Bunbury's men's side will be hunting their fourth consecutive title, having won a thrilling final over Upper Great Southern via one-on-ones at last year's championships. After going out of 2023's championships in the semifinals, Bunbury's women's side put together a dominant tournament which they capped off with a 1-0 win over Upper Great Southern in the final to reclaim the title last year. Bunbury will also field men's and women's masters sides at the championships to go with a women's division two team. The tournament will feature a number of other associations from the region, with Busselton to send men's and women's masters outfits while Warren (women's division four), Donnybrook (women's division five) and Margaret River (men's division three) will send one team apiece. All games at the championships across Perth Hockey Stadium's two pitches will be streamed at . * Boyanup's Tom Harvie will feature for the Kookaburras in the upcoming leg of the FIH Pro League after recovering from elbow surgery, but his brother Jake has been sidelined by a groin injury. Tom debuted for the national side earlier this year and went on to earn his first contract despite missing a block of games against Argentina due to the problem. The latest leg of the Pro League will see the Kookaburras play eight games around Europe, the first of which will come against India in Antwerp on Saturday at 4.30pm WA time. Pro League games are available to stream live on 7plus.

June Streaming Guide: What to watch on 7plus, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus and more

June's streaming calendar is jam-packed with drama, mystery, survival and intrigue at every turn. But we've identified which pay TV services are delivering the best of the best as the winter chill sets in. Check out our top picks below. FIH Pro League — 2025 season (7Plus)Streaming June 14 Hockey season is in full swing with 7Plus airing all the Men's and Women's FIH Pro League matches free-to-air this June. Cheer on your Kookaburras (Men's) and the Hockeyroos (Women's) as they take on eight other countries from around the globe. This year, the Kookaburras aim to back up their 2023-24 championship win and become the first country with the most outright championships to their name. Meanwhile the Hockeyroos hope to stop The Netherlands from taking out their third championship in a row. Tune into 7Plus on June 14 for all the sporting action. We Were Liars — new series premiere (Amazon Prime Video)Streaming June 18 Based on E. Lockhart's young adult psychological horror novel of the same name, We Were Liars follows 17-year-old Cadence Sinclair, a wealthy teenager who recently suffered a traumatic accident. Cadence struggles to rebuild her life while remembering important pieces of her life that she's forgotten in her fight to survive. Considering this book won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Young Adult Fiction, this is definitely one to watch this month. Stream We Were Liars on Amazon Prime from June 18. The Bear — new season premiere (Disney Plus)Streaming June 25 We're back in the kitchen as season four of The Bear premieres this June. Season three is hotly debated as one of the least popular seasons yet, however, when you think about it, it was designed much like one of those delicately crafted authentic restaurant meals — it left viewers hungry for more. It traded the constant action of previous seasons to focus on illustrating either how far characters had come or, inversely, why they had stagnated. Seasons like that are crucial to building context to further the storyline, and it left us teetering on a peak. Will The Bear survive? Tune into Disney Plus on June 25 to find out. Smoke — new series premiere (Apple TV Plus)Streaming June 27 Crime novelist Dennis Lehane, the mastermind behind books like Gone, Baby Gone, Shutter Island and Mystic River, has traded bookstores for screens with Smoke. This series was inspired by Firebug, a podcast focusing on arson crimes by former firefighter, John Leonard Orr. Taron Egerton stars as Dave, an arson investigator alongside detective Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett) who are both determined to catch not one but two serial arsonists threatening the lives of many. Will they stop them in time? Find out on Apple TV Plus on June 27 Squid Game — new season (Netflix)Streaming June 27 While there was a massive three-year break between seasons one and two, fans only had to wait six months for season three. The viral series returns with plenty more twisted games and psychological warfare between contestants. There's just one rule: play or die. It's game on for Squid Game season three from June 27, exclusively on Netflix. Alone — new season premiere (Stan)Streaming June 13 We often joke about wanting to ditch society and wander off into the wilderness alone, but this show will actually pay a top survival expert a whopping $500,000 to prove they can truly do it! This month, ten new contestants will need to brave the Karoo Desert of South Africa, the driest climate chosen yet, to take home the half-million prize pool. Don't be fooled: what this desert lacks in water, it redeems itself tenfold with plenty of predators and soaring temperatures. Tune into Alone on Stan as you sit comfortably under your throw rug and naively criticise others on their survival skills from June 13.

Kooka's 'heartbreaking' exile ends after Games shame

Disgraced Kookaburra Tom Craig will play out his career with gratitude after earning a recall following a "heartbreaking" six-month suspension. The Australian hockey star was stripped of his Olympic privileges when he was arrested in Paris following the side's Games exit last year. He spent the night in a Paris jail after attempting to buy drugs but escaped without a fine or conviction. The 29-year-old was later handed a 12-month suspension by Hockey Australia, of which six were suspended. That didn't preclude him from playing overseas, Craig keeping his contract in Germany where he has pushed for a Test recall under new Kookaburras coach Mark Hager. With his suspension served, that came on Friday in a squad that also includes the experienced Blake Govers, Lachlan Sharp and fit-again striker Joel Rintala. Craig, who has played 142 games for Australia, will remain in Europe ahead of the side's next Pro League legs in Belgium, England and Germany from June 14. "Keeping the gratitude front of mind," Craig said of his mindset. "I can't really put to words how grateful I am for everyone who's supported me. "It's going to feel amazing. "I wasn't sure if it was going to happen and fortunately it has, so I really can't wait to get out there." Craig, who won Olympic silver with the team in Tokyo four years ago, was banished from the side's Pro League legs in Argentina and his Sydney home. "Sitting there watching the boys play in Sydney ... completely new squad, kind of equal parts heartbreaking I couldn't be out there but exhilarating about what the next four years is going to hold," he said. "One of my favourite memories playing hockey in general was my 100th (game for Australia) in Sydney. "It was pretty challenging to miss those games." The Kookaburras' quarter-final exit in Paris was the end of an era, with veterans Eddie Ockenden, Aran Zalewski, Jake Whetton, Matt Dawson and goalkeeper Andrew Charter all retiring and coach Colin Batch stepping down. "It brings a totally different flavour," Craig said of Hager's arrival and the new-look squad. "Four years (until the Los Angeles Games) is a long cycle and we're young in this cycle and all committed to learning as much as we can ... about a new way of play and who the Kookaburras are going to be." Rintala burst onto the Test scene with a first-half hat-trick among six goals in his first four games. But constant injuries kept him out of the Olympic squad and off the field until last week's unofficial Tests against Malaysia. "I'm so keen to get to Europe and have a good crack," the drag-flick specialist said. "I feel like I've been watching training for a long time now ... it's been frustrating, but I do it because I just love playing hockey." Australia, who won the last Pro League before the Paris Games, will play India, Ireland, England and Germany in the eight-game tour. KOOKABURRAS: Davis Atkin, Josh Beltz, Hayden Beltz, Tim Brand, Cooper Burns, Tom Craig, James Collins, Nathan Czinner, Nathan Ephraums, Blake Govers, Anand Gupte, Tom Harvie, Jeremy Hayward, Liam Henderson, Tim Howard, Craig Marais, Joel Rintala, Lachlan Sharp, Jed Snowden (gk), Ash Thomas (gk), Jack Welch, Ky Willott.
