India vs Australia hockey full schedule, dates, time (IST), live streaming

India's preparations for the all-important Asia Cup 2025 will get a solid test as the men's hockey team heads Down Under for a four-match series against Australia from August 15 to 21 at the Perth Hockey Stadium. Ranked eighth in the world, India will face sixth-ranked Australia in what promises to be a fiercely competitive bilateral series. The matches are scheduled for August 15, 16, 19, and 21, and will serve not only as a high-level tune-up for the upcoming continental championship in Bihar but also as a chance for key players to make their case for final selection.
This series comes just weeks after both sides locked horns in the FIH Pro League 2024–25, where Australia narrowly edged out India 3–2 in both legs. However, India will take confidence from their historic 3–2 win over the Kookaburras at the 2024 Paris Olympics — their first Olympic win over Australia since 1972.
While Australia have dominated the head-to-head record in the past decade, winning 35 of their 51 meetings since 2013, the recent games have shown India closing the gap. Chief Coach Craig Fulton has called the tour a 'crucial test', confirming that team selection for the Asia Cup will be finalised during the series.

Football: On Jamil rests India's Asian Cup hopes

Kolkata: Hours after being named India coach, Khalid Jamil took a training session with Jamshedpur FC. It could be the last one Jamil takes at the Indian Super League (ISL) club he joined on December 31, 2023. Between then and Friday, Jamil had overseen Jamshedpur FC being docked three points for fielding an extra foreigner and making the ISL semi-final and the Super Cup final. File image of Khalid Ahmed Jamil who has been named India's men's team national coach. (Sportzpics for ISL) It was the last two in 2024-25 that got Jamil's former coach and teammates to support him as the first Indian in charge of the national team since Savio Medeira in 2012. The post opened when Spaniard Manolo Marquez stepped down as head coach after 11 months. IM Vijayan, who chairs the technical committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), backed his former India teammate, who was voted AIFF coach of the year twice in succession, as did Bimal Ghosh under whom Jamil had blossomed into a versatile midfielder. At the virtual AIFF executive committee meeting on Friday, they also got support from Armando Colaco and Shabbir Ali, the former India captain who is also a technical committee and executive committee member. According to those who attended the meeting, Ghosh proposed only Jamil's name and Colaco said he would be the first choice followed by Stephen Constantine. Decorated former coaches both, Colaco and Ghosh are advisors to AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey. Members also spoke of Jamil's lack of international experience and in managing a squad that has the best Indian players but Colaco and Ali, as per the AIFF media release, said he needed to be given a chance. There was support for Constantine as well with one member pointing out how he had ensured a smooth transition from Sukhwinder Singh in 2002 and another AIFF official saying since the new coach will not have time to settle down, the Anglo-Cypriot was his choice. Stefan Tarkovic, the other coach in the three-man shortlist, was barely discussed. Chaubey told PTI that Jamil has asked for a three-year term. An executive committee member suggested that the new coach be given a one-year contract, in line with the term remaining for the members, with a scope for extension, according to an official in the meeting. 'It will be a long-term tenure, may be two or three years, and performance-based,' Chaubey has said. 'The details will be firmed up by AIFF in consultation with Jamil,' said a federation official. Also awaiting details are Jamil's current employers. Jamshedpur FC play 1 Ladakh in Durand Cup on August 8 and the quarter-final on August 16 or 17. But should Jamil want to start preparation for the CAFA Nations Cup, where India start on August 29 against Tajikistan, he may have to be released earlier, or Jamshedpur may request AIFF to let him manage club and country in the short term. As per AIFF officials in the meeting, Jamil has asked for a support staff of six most of whom could be from Jamshedpur FC. Jamil's salary will be around ₹1.2 crore annually, according to an official who was in the meeting. Constantine and Tarkovic had sought $240,000 ( ₹20.9 crore approximately) after tax annually, the official said. Since they are not allowed to speak to the media on this, the officials mentioned in this report have requested anonymity. A football obsessive known for his ability to revive players' careers and get clubs to punch above their weight, Jamil's biggest challenge will be to ensure that India, who have slipped to 133 in the FIFA rankings, qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup. A first-ever hattrick of successful qualifying campaigns is, in the words of India's talismanic striker Sunil Chhetri, the bare minimum. At the bottom of the four-team group after a draw and a defeat, India will play Singapore next home and away in October. Jamil's teams are known for defensive solidity but have sometimes cracked in trying to take the game to the opponents. Six of Jamshedpur's 10 defeats in 2024-25 ISL came against teams that finished below them. India are the highest-ranked team in group C of the Asian Cup qualifiers and that could mean Jamil having to work out a way against tactics he is famous for deploying.

Esports World Cup 2025: Arjun Erigaisi loses to Hikaru Nakamura in dramatic third-place playoff

India's Arjun Erigaisi lost to the USA's Hikaru Nakamura in the third-place playoff of the chess event at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh on Friday. Nakamura pipped Erigaisi 3.5-2.5 in a thrilling tie which was settled in the sixth and final game. The two Grandmasters were neck and neck for most of the decider before Erigaisi, playing with black pieces, lost his footing in the endgame. He made a series of errors under time pressure to hand the game and the third place to Nakamura. The Indian GM had started the playoff on the right foot as he claimed a win with white pieces in the first game before playing out a draw in the second. Nakamura stormed back into the tie with back-to-back wins in the third and fourth games to take the lead. But Erigaisi held his nerve to level the scores with a win in the fifth game, only to miss out in the decider. With the win, Nakamura secured a prize money of $145,000, while Erigaisi will take home $115,000 for his fourth-place finish. Later in the day, Magnus Carlsen will take on Alireza Firouzja in the final.

'You Can't Talk Like That...': Kumar Dharmasena Reprimands KL Rahul After Verbal Spat

Last Updated: Sri Lanka umpire Kumar Dharmasena was in focus during the fifth Test between India and England after a heated exchange with KL Rahul over Prasidh Krishna's dispute with Joe Root. Sri Lanka umpire Kumar Dharmasena was yet again in focus on Day 2 of the fifth Test between India and England after he engaged in a war of words with India's KL Rahul, after he wanted Prasidh Krishna to stop arguing with ace England batter Joe Root, which continued for a while. As Root aimed at Krishna, Rahul stepped in to back his teammate and walked up to Dharmasena to get clarity on the situation. Rahul questioned the umpire, asking if he expected the Indian side to bat and bowl without showing any emotion or engaging in anything else on the field. The former continued to support Krishna. 'What do you want us to do? Be quiet," Rahul questioned Dharmasena. 'Will you like any bowler who comes and walks to you? No, you can't do that. No, Rahul, we shouldn't go on that way," Dharmasena replied. 'What do you want us to do? Just bat and ball and go home," Rahul retorted. 'We will discuss at the end of the match. You can't talk like that," Dharmasena said. Meanwhile, star India pacer Mohammed Siraj struck thrice in a fiery eight-over spell to lead India's fightback in the afternoon session of the fifth and final Test against England in London on Friday. At tea, England were 215/7, eight down with Chris Woakes not available to bat because of a shoulder injury. They still trail India by nine runs. The wickets to fall were England's batting mainstay Joe Root (29 off 45), Zak Crawley (64 off 57), stand-in skipper Ollie Pope (22 off) and Jacob Bethell (6 off 14). A heated exchange of words between Root and Prasidh Krishna was among the talking points of the session as well. After being blown away by the England openers in the opening session, Indian pacers found their lengths post the break. Prasidh sent back Crawley, who mistimed a pull to be pouched at midwicket. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
