Zafrul heads to Makkah for haj
KUALA LUMPUR: Just a few hours after announcing his change in political affiliations, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will be flying to Makkah to perform his haj pilgrimage. In a Facebook post, the Umno supreme council member said he hosted a doa selamat (prayers for gratitude and safety) tonight ahead of his journey to the Holy Land. "On this occasion, I would like to seek forgiveness from everyone reading this message if I have ever spoken harshly, misspoken, or fallen short in any way throughout our acquaintance. "Thank you for your kind thoughts and sincere prayers. Please pray that my journey and pilgrimage will be smooth, accepted, and granted the blessing of a haji mabrur (accepted or righteous haj). "God willing, I will make the most of every moment there. Please keep me in your prayers," the investment, trade and industry minister said. Earlier today, Tengku Zafrul announced that he submitted his resignation from all posts in Umno, along with his membership in the party. He was previously an Umno Supreme Council member and also headed the Kota Raja Umno division. He said he had also expressed his intention to join PKR. He said after much self-reflection and consideration of various factors, he has decided to do so due to "compatibility and suitability." Tengku Zafrul is serving his second term in the Dewan Negara.
