Success Story: Despite Failing In Graduation, IAS Kumar Anurag Secured AIR 48 In UPSC
Last Updated: After completing his graduation, IAS Kumar Anurag pursued post-graduation while simultaneously preparing for the UPSC exam. He went on to crack in 2018. The story is about IAS officer Kumar Anurag from Bihar, who persevered despite failing in some subjects during his intermediate and graduation. Today, he serves as the commissioner of the municipal corporation in Gayaji district. Originally from Katihar district, Anurag studied in Hindi medium until class 8. Upon switching to English medium, he faced significant language challenges but still excelled academically. Anurag scored 90 per cent in class 10th. During intermediate or class 12 exam, Anurag failed the Mathematics exam in the pre-board, leading to reprimands from his family. He dedicated himself to improving in Mathematics, scoring 94 marks in the board exams. Although he passed class 12 with first division, his performance in other subjects suffered, thwarting his dreams of becoming an IITian. He then enrolled in Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. However, he had failed in the second year of his undergraduate course following which he started taking his studied seriously. After completing his graduation, he pursued post-graduation while simultaneously preparing for the UPSC exam. In 2017, Anurag passed the UPSC exam on his first attempt, securing the 677th rank. Despite his success, his dream of becoming an IAS officer was yet to be fulfilled. Determined, he appeared for the UPSC exam again, achieving an All India rank of 48 in 2018 and realising his ambition. He strengthened his knowledge in Economics, and chose it as an optional subject for the UPSC exam. He worked in the joined the Indian Economics Service (IES) as an Assistant Director from March to August 2019. 'Leave your previous education background and start from scratch. You can reach heights even by starting from zero. One must not show haste at all in this examination. Each topic must be studied very deeply. Studying with hard work and better strategy is the key to success," the IAS officer had said. Repair roads, street lights ahead of Pitripaksh Mela, Gaya DM asks officials
Gaya: District administration on Wednesday reviewed the preparations being made for the Pitripaksh Mela in the town, and sought status of repair works of roads, drains, lighting and health arrangements. Chairing a meeting with senior officials and nodal officers of different cells, DM Shashank Shubhankar, issued instructions to expedite repair of 24 faulty high mast lights out of the 250, and 2,400 street lights out of the 25,000, and complete it before the fortnight fair, beginning from Sept 6 this year. The officials informed at the meeting that a list of 37 roads has been prepared for repair, out of which 23 belong to the road construction department. "Repair work of the roads including Pretshila, Chand Chouraha, Ram Sagar road, Golpatthar have been completed, while survey and estimate of other roads has also been completed," said Gaya municipal commissioner, Kumar Anurag. "Get signages installed on the main roads so that the pilgrims can get an idea regarding location and the distance of pind vedis," the DM directed the officials. He also asked them to complete the repair of remaining roads within seven days. Civil surgeon Dr Raja Ram Prasad informed that after meeting with management of private hospitals, rate of treatment has been fixed so that the pilgrims are not exploited in the name of treatment.

Gaya gears up for Pitripaksha Mela scheduled from Sept 6 to 21
1 2 3 Gaya: With Pitripaksha Mela just months away, district magistrate (DM) Shashank Shubhankar reviewed works related to roads, drainage, electricity supply and lighting with senior officials and the nodal officers of different cells on Wednesday. The fortnight-long Pitripakshsa Mela is scheduled to be held from Sept 6 to 21. At the meeting, the DM said more pilgrims are expected to arrive at Gaya during Pitripaksha this year as compared to last. He directed the officials to conduct regular inspections to assess the deficiencies and get them rectified on a war footing. He was informed that a list of 37 roads, which need repair, has been prepared. Out of them, 25 roads belong to road construction department. Gayaji municipal commissioner Kumar Anurag said that a survey of bad roads has been completed and an estimate is being prepared to expedite their repair. The DM instructed the municipal commissioner and officials of the road construction department to get signage installed on roads to indicate 'pind vedis', ponds and temples for the convenience of pilgrims. He also asked the civil surgeon to make an assessment and send requisition of doctors needed for deputation during the mela period. While reviewing the electricity and lighting, he instructed the officials concerned to get the non-functional high mast lights repaired and replace old and hanging wires.

Gayaji to replace Gaya in official civic records
Gaya: Gaya Municipal Corporation will now be officially known as the Gayaji Municipal Corporation, following the state cabinet's approval to rename the city as Gayaji. In a notification issued by the general administration department, additional chief secretary B Rajender said, "Taking into consideration the glorious history of Gaya city and the sentiments of common people, the name of the city 'Gaya' is changed as 'Gayaji' by the state cabinet on May 16 this year. " The decision to change the name in the civic body's official records was taken during a municipal board meeting held on Wednesday. Municipal commissioner Kumar Anurag said during the meeting, "There is no confusion in writing Gayaji in Hindi, but a direction from the state urban development department is awaited whether the city would be spelt as 'Gayaji' or 'Gayajee' in English." Member of the standing committee and former deputy mayor Akhauri Onkarnath, alias Mohan Shrivastava, said, "The municipal board had passed a resolution and sent [it] to the state govt for changing the name of the city as Gayaji." Mayor Virendra Kumar announced a series of development initiatives. "All the roads of the municipal area will be illuminated with LED and high-mast lights. The municipal board has approved the installation of at least 6,000 LED lights. Installation work of 100 high-mast lights in the municipal area is ongoing. A team of technicians will repair non-functional street lights and high-mast lights. The roads will also be decorated with tricolour rope lights," he said. He added, "Apart from this, beautification of 10 ponds, including Digghi pond located in the heart of the city near the Collectorate, will be undertaken. There is also a plan to set up a construction and demolition plant for the disposal of waste construction materials. To generate income for the civic body, bricks will be made from the construction waste materials at the plant."
