House, two vehicles destroyed in Kunak fire
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 By: Ibrahim Tabir Text Size: KUNAK: A single-storey house and two vehicles, a Proton Wira and Proton Waja, were destroyed in a fire at Kg Buang Sayang, Jalan Kunak Jaya on Tuesday morning. Kunak Fire and Rescue Chief Mohamad Omarbatha said they received the emergency call at 8:45am. Eight firefighters led by Operations Commander PBKI Rosman Gari were dispatched to the scene, about six kilometres from the station. The fire was extinguished using a 500-foot hose line with water from the FRT engine and nearby hydrant. The operation ended at 11:40am. No injuries were reported. Former Scout Chief killed in Kunak accident

KUNAK: Datuk Yahamad Budin, 74, who served as Persatuan Masyarakat Brunei Kota Kinabalu Branch Chairman, was killed when the Toyota Hiace van he was driving crashed, trapping him in the driver's seat, along Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu, Sunday. Eight passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries in the 7.19am incident. Kunak Fire and Rescue Chief Mohamad Omarbatha said rescue teams used specialised equipment to extract the trapped driver from the wreckage. The accident occurred 40km from the fire station, requiring deployment of fire rescue trucks and emergency medical response vehicles. The eight injured passengers comprising four men and four women aged between 46 and 75 received initial treatment from emergency medical teams and Kunak Hospital paramedics before being transported to the hospital for further care. Police were also present at the scene. The group had been returning to Kota Kinabalu from Semporna after conducting charity programs in Tawau and Semporna over several days.
