Yoga for all: Kurnool hosts mega rally under Yogandhra campaign

Kurnool: Yoga plays a vital role in promoting good health, stated Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ravindra Babu during a massive rally on Tuesday. The event, part of the state-wide Yogandhra Campaign, began at Kurnool Outdoor Stadium and concluded at Kondareddy Buruju. Commissioner Ravindra Babu said the Government of Andhra Pradesh launched this initiative to bring yoga into everyday life. As part of the lead-up to International Yoga Day on June 21, a record-setting mass yoga event is being planned at the Visakhapatnam beachfront, where five lakh people are expected to perform yoga in the presence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister. The campaign aims to reach two crore citizens across rural and urban Andhra Pradesh. A curtain-raiser event was held on May 21, marking the start of a month-long yoga awareness drive. Activities have since begun in Kurnool, engaging people from all walks of life, including children, senior citizens, traders, and employees. Yoga instructors have begun training Master Trainers district-wide. A five-day structured program began Tuesday, preparing these trainers to lead yoga sessions across mandals and municipal wards starting June 2. The Commissioner urged public participation in the campaign, calling yoga India's priceless gift to the world. He highlighted its global recognition and the establishment of June 21 as International Yoga Day. Regular yoga practice, he added, enhances overall well-being. The rally witnessed active participation from DSO Raja Raghuveer, SETCO CEO Dr. Venugopal, DSDO Bhupathi Rao, DRDA PD Ramana Reddy, State Yoga Association Secretary Avinash Shetty, Fisheries AD Ranganath Babu, district officials, and the general public.

Kurnool: Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing TG Bharath laid foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 12.3 crore across several wards in Kurnool city on Friday. The programme commenced with the initiation of CC roads and drainage works near Ashok Nagar railway bridge. Subsequently, foundation stones were laid for similar infrastructure works in several wards. Additionally, the Minister inaugurated construction of a new road connecting vehicles from Hyderabad via SAP Camp to the new bus stand area, aiming to ease traffic flow in the city. Addressing the gathering, Minister Bharath emphasised the importance of roads, drainage systems, street lighting, and cleanliness for urban residents. He assured citizens that his efforts are focused on ensuring these basic amenities in all wards. He directed municipal officials to work towards making the Kurnool Municipal Corporation a model on par with Visakhapatnam. He also mentioned recent discussions with contractors to resolve their issues and promised that all development works initiated under his leadership would be completed within stipulated timelines and with quality assurance. Referring to the longstanding waterlogging problem near Ashok Nagar Railway Bridge during rains, the Minister said that efforts are underway to provide a permanent solution. Highlighting the vision of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Bharath said that the government is focused on both welfare programs and infrastructural development. He criticised the previous government for its destructive governance and said efforts are now being made to restore and advance the state's progress. He announced that the Orvakal Industrial Park is set to be developed with an investment of Rs 2,700 crore. To enhance connectivity, the Minister said discussions have been held with Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and IndiGo Airlines to introduce flight services between Orvakal and Vijayawada. He revealed that several industries are expected to be established in the park, including a Rs. 14,000 crore semiconductor manufacturing unit and an electric vehicle production facility. Recognising the need for better aviation infrastructure, the Minister stated that plans are in place to ensure regular flight operations between Kurnool and Vijayawada. Additionally, two pilot training centers have been established, and he urged youth to seize this opportunity, noting the shortage of pilots in the country. Minister Bharath also highlighted the government's efforts, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, to develop a Mega Industrial Corridor from Anantapur to Kurnool. He expressed confidence that Rayalaseema is on the path to significant industrial growth, bringing with its abundant employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth. Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing Minister T.G. Bharat on Friday laid the foundation stones for a cluster of 31 development projects at an estimated cost of ₹12.28 crore in 19 divisions of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation. The works include CC roads, drainage lines, public toilets, pavements, and a display of air-quality boards. Addressing the public, Mr. Bharat said that efforts are underway to give Kurnool a fillip on the lines of Visakhapatnam. 'The prime focus will be on roads, drainage, street lighting, and sanitation. I urge the contractors and officials to expedite the works and strive for completion at the earliest,' he said. The Minister also launched the works for a bypass road passing through the SAP camp, which would likely ease traffic snarls on the Kurnool-Bellary road, and facilitate a congestion-free traffic on the Kurnool-Hyderabad road. Mr. Bharat further promised that he would work for a permanent solution to the issue of waterlogging under the Ashok Nagar railway bridge during the rainy season. The Minister reiterated that the Orvakal Industrial Park would be developed with ₹2,700 crore and the investors are from the areas of semiconductor and electric vehicle manufacturers. 'We propose to operate daily flight services between Orvakal and Vijayawada from June 2. Union Minister Rammohan Naidu and IndiGo officials also responded positively to the proposed move,' he said. Officials of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation said that the funding included ₹3.59 crore from the general funds, ₹5.84 crore under NCap, and ₹2.82 crore from the 15th Finance Commission. Senior cadres from the alliance parties and officials of various government departments were present.

YogAndhra-2025 campaign launched in Anantapur, Nandyal, Kurnool

A month-long YogAndhra-2025 campaign to promote yoga was launched in Anantapur, Nandyal and Kurnool districts on Wednesday. In Anantapur district, collector V. Vinod Kumar launched the campaign at indoor stadium in the city and along with several officials performed yoga. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar said yoga should be made a part of life and every individual should join the YogAndhra initiative. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations at Visakhapatnam on June 21 and as part of it, yoga month is being celebrated and urged people to register in the app that was launched for the campaign. Nandyal Collector Rajakumari Gania launched the campaign by participating in a yoga session at the indoor stadium in the district headquarters along with Joint Collector C. Vishnu Charan, other officials, members of local yoga associations and students. Ms. Rajakumari said people should make yoga a part of their daily life as by practicing yoga, one can relieve their physical and mental stress. The YogAndhra-2025 campaign has been taken up for a month on the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Yoga masters at mandal and village level would be trained as resource persons in the first week of the month long campaign and they will conduct awareness sessions at the village and mandal level, she said. She asked Ayush, medical and health department, panchayat raj and municipal administration departments to extend cooperation for the success of the campaign. She said the district has 24 tourist spots and plans are being drawn to conduct yoga session at temples and the tourist spots with 1,000 persons each. Meanwhile in Kurnool, collector P. Ranjith Basha, Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor B.Y. Ramaiah took part in the YogAndhra campaign.

Collector reviews city sanitation measures

Kurnool: District Collector P Ranjith Basha has instructed the municipal authorities to pay special attention to sanitation management in Kurnool city and implement improved measures. Addressing officials during a review meeting held at the collectorate Conference Hall on Tuesday, the collector expressed concern over complaints regarding unsatisfactory sanitation conditions in the city. He instructed coordination with the Lead District Manager to provide auto-rickshaws through loans to the 91 drivers previously involved in garbage collection. This initiative aims not only to offer them employment but also to improve cleanliness across the city. The collector reviewed operations of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation, and water supply preparedness, noting that special efforts had been made to ensure sufficient water availability in all summer storage tanks by April 15. He instructed the Municipal Commissioner to ensure uninterrupted water supply during the summer and carry out immediate repairs on non-functional hand bore wells. Explaining the importance of efficient drinking water supply and sanitation, the collector said that these are essential to building a positive image for the city administration. He also called for the speedy and systematic execution of development works being undertaken through various schemes such as General Funds, National Clean Air Programme, Smart City Corporation, IIITDM, and AMRUT. In particular, he stressed the timely completion of the Master Plan Road works. As part of mosquito control measures, the collector ordered the use of drones to spray mosquito repellent oil in the Handri river and other vulnerable areas, urging that these efforts be institutionalized annually. He also instructed that detailed documentation be maintained, including the distance covered and costs incurred. The collector warned that negative reports regarding municipal department officials were surfacing and urged greater accountability. He directed the Municipal Commissioner to conduct coordination meetings with staff to ensure proper functioning across departments. Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ravindra Babu presented a detailed overview of ongoing municipal activities through a PowerPoint presentation. The meeting was attended by SE Rajasekhar, MHO Vishweshwara Reddy, the city planner, AEs, and other municipal staff.
