Siblings found dead in Dilshad Garden flat, both MBAs and reclusive
New Delhi: A man and his sister were found dead, suspected to have ended their lives by suicide, in their rented flat in north-east Delhi's Dilshad Garden on Sunday. Neighbours and family described the siblings as reclusive, rarely venturing out. The deceased were identified as Viresh Kumar and Preeti Tomar, who were residents of Baghpat. Both were MBA graduates. Viresh worked in the IT sector. The police are investigating possible motives, including financial difficulties and depression. Police received a PCR call around 8.21am, and a team rushed to the spot, which was a flat on the ground floor in D Pocket, Dilshad Garden. "The flat was found locked from inside, and on opening, the bodies of the two were found. They were tenants in the flat since 2021," deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam said. They lived in a one room set, paying around Rs 1,4000 as rent. The crime and forensic teams went to the spot. The crime scene was videographed. The DCP said they had not found any foul play yet. The owner of the flat said the duo kept to themselves. "They never interacted with anyone in the society, so most people didn't know much about them," the landlord said. He added that they were always paid the rent on time, except for the previous month. "The last time I spoke to him was regarding the rent. He said his sister wasn't well, so I told him not to worry and to pay whenever he could," the landlord said. On Sunday morning, some neighbours smelled a strong odour. "When we reached and checked, it was unbearable. That's when the police were called," he said. Police are in contact with the family of the deceased. Ashok Singh, a neighbour, described them as reclusive and lacking a social circle. "I once went to invite them to my brother's wedding a few years ago, but they didn't even open the door," he said. He occasionally saw the sister cooking, but otherwise, the siblings kept to themselves. "The place where the incident took place was a LIG flat, and in the locality, more than 10 families live," he said. Their cousin, Vijay Tomar, shared that their father, who served in the army, passed away in 2011, followed by their mother in 2021 — both due to illness. The siblings moved from their native village in Baghpat to Delhi, initially living in Jhilmil Colony. "We made an effort to reach out, but they never responded," he said. Tomar mentioned that both were academically gifted and held MBA degrees. "I remember he was working at an IT company in 2020 but lost his job during the pandemic. I'm not sure if he found work afterward," he added. Family members tried to stay in touch, even inviting them to a wedding last year, but they declined. Relatives had also suggested matches for Preeti, but she said she wasn't interested, focusing instead on her studies. "They cut themselves off from everyone. If they were facing difficulties, they could have spoken to us," he said.

Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025: Rent-To-Own, Walk-To-Work Vision Makes Housing A Right, Say Experts
Last Updated: The Maharashtra government has approved the Housing Policy 2025, aiming for 35 lakh affordable homes by 2030, focusing on EWS, LIG housing, slum redevelopment, and rental housing. Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025. In a landmark decision set to reshape the urban housing landscape, the Maharashtra government has approved the Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025, aimed at providing housing for all while ensuring sustainable and inclusive urban development. The policy lays out a comprehensive roadmap to tackle the challenges of affordability, slum rehabilitation, rental housing, and planned urban growth across the state. What is the Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025? The Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025 is a state-wide housing blueprint that envisions creating 35 lakh affordable homes by 2030, especially targeting Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Groups (LIG). It seeks to achieve this through a combination of public-private partnerships, rental housing models, redevelopment of slums and chawls, and innovative ownership schemes like rent-to-own and self-redevelopment. It promotes the 'Majhe Ghar, Majha Adhikar' (My Home, My Right) initiative and aims to make housing more accessible, while reducing the pressure on city infrastructure by encouraging housing near industrial zones, thereby supporting the 'Walk to Work' concept. The policy also includes fast-track approvals for housing projects, land pooling mechanisms, promotion of green construction for climate action, and the creation of a centralised digital housing portal to enhance transparency and streamline processes for developers and homebuyers. 'Policy Sends Message That Housing Is Not A Luxury, It's A Right': Industry Players Real estate leaders have widely welcomed the policy, saying that the policy sends a clear message that housing is not a luxury, it's a right. Anuj Goradia, director at Dosti Realty, called the move remarkable, and said the blueprint addresses both sustainability and affordability. 'The new housing policy will be a progressive step towards affordable housing and will endow a significant boost to the sector by not only creating enormous employment opportunities but also bring in a win-win situation that can further ensure elevated living for the city dwellers across all the income groups," he said. He also highlighted how the policy promotes residential development around industrial zones, further enabling the 'Walk to Work' concept. 'One cannot ignore the inclusivity of this policy that promotes redevelopment of unplanned projects like slums, chawls, vertical slums, etc. We definitely look at this policy as an extremely transformational move for the state and a remarkable approach to housing that is futuristic and will boost investor confidence," he added. Nayan A Shah, chairman and managing director of Mayfair Housing, said the policy reflects a significant shift in recognizing housing as a right. 'The new Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025 is a much-needed shift towards making homeownership a reality for lakhs of families across the state. With its focus on affordable housing, rental stock, and slum rehabilitation, the policy sends a clear message that housing is not a luxury, it's a right." Shah emphasised how the policy can help fast-track development in upcoming regions like Virar. 'With this policy encouraging faster approvals, land pooling, and private participation, we see great potential to accelerate the delivery of quality homes for the aspiring middle class and working families." Jash Panchamia, promoter of Suraksha Smart City, praised the 'Majhe Ghar, Majha Adhikar' initiative and the focus on closing the housing gap. 'It addresses the urgent housing needs of the EWS and LIG housing needs while promoting solutions like self-redevelopment and rent-to-own models that are set to bridge the housing gap while paving the way for sustainable urban growth across the state." He also welcomed the digital and green measures in the policy. 'The integration of new-age technology using green practices for climate action are steps that will ensure responsible and future-ready construction. The proposed centralised digital housing portal will instil transparency and promote ease of doing business thus streamlining the system for developers and homebuyers alike." IDA survey bats for flyovers, upgrade for 5 intersections
Indore: A feasibility survey report prepared by the Indore Development Authority (IDA) reveals that flyovers are feasible at five intersections, while traffic flow at four others can be improved through specific modification works instead of flyover construction. The situation at Ghantaghar intersection will be determined only after the metro route is finalised. The survey at Madhumilan intersection was not conducted due to ongoing improvement work by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). The survey report on flyovers at various intersections in the city was reviewed on Saturday at the IDA office, under the chairmanship of divisional commissioner Deepak Singh. The survey proposes elevated rotaries at Zanjeerwala Square and flyovers at Tower Square, Chanakyapuri, Gopur Square, and Agresen Square. The estimated cost for the construction of these five flyovers is Rs 338 crore. Collector Asheesh Singh stated that the survey proposed the construction of flyovers at five intersections. These proposals will now be finalised after discussions with public representatives, and a decision will also be made regarding the source of funds for the construction, IDA CEO RP Ahirwar said. During the meeting, suggestions were also made to construct an elevated corridor from LIG to Palasia. Officials stated that a survey for this should be conducted, as an elevated corridor is already being built from Industry House to Palasia. They suggested extending this elevated corridor from LIG to Palasia. Officials also directed some modifications to be made at Shivaji Vatika and Geeta Bhawan intersections.

2 killed in Ghaziabad balcony collapse: Flat was declared ‘dangerous' over 5 yrs ago
On Wednesday evening, the balcony of a second-floor flat in Ghaziabad's Tilamod collapsed, killing 25-year-old Akash and his three-year-old nephew Vansh. This flat, built under the Tulsi Niketan Housing Scheme, was part of several such buildings declared dangerous by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) over five years ago. According to GDA officials, in 2018, on account of several complaints from residents, an assessment of the buildings was done by Jamia Millia Islamia. The report, submitted in February 2019, observed that the units are not 'safe under seismic loads' and recommended that the units be dismantled, as their retrofitting and rehabilitation could be costlier. The GDA, in a statement, said it started the Tulsi Niketan Housing Scheme in 1989-90. The scheme had 288 LIG and 2,004 EWS buildings spread over 7.83 hectares, located near the Wazirabad Highway on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. 'Over time, the buildings became dilapidated as the area faced waterlogging issues… The Authority had received several complaints,' it added. According to Ghaziabad District Magistrate (DM) Shiv Meena, the GDA was planning to redevelop the building. He further said that the incident should not be looked at in isolation. 'There are several buildings that need repair and renovation. This incident can happen anywhere,' Meena told The Indian Express. 'There should be a large-scale survey, and such buildings should be notified. I will issue an administrative order soon,' he added. According to the Nagar Nigam Act of 2004, it is the responsibility of the body to declare a building unsafe. 'If the building is unsafe, the Nagar Nigam can demolish the building,' said an official. GDA Vice-Chairperson Atul Vats said, 'For the last 10 years, we had been trying to hand over the buildings to Nagar Nigam. But as it lacked structural stability, it did not agree. So, we came up with the redevelopment plan.' 'We began the survey 15 days ago, and an Expression of Interest (EOI) was also floated for the development,' he said. 'The expense would be Rs 1,000 crore. We have mentioned in the EOI that those redeveloping the building would also cover the rent of those staying there,' he said. In its statement, the GDA said that on May 1, a meeting was convened to redevelop such dilapidated buildings. Those in attendance were the Secretary, Additional Secretary, Executive Engineer, and other senior officials of the GDA, as well as local residents, councillor Yashpal Pehelwan and former councillor Vinod Kasana.. 'Following the meeting, residents were informed about the objectives and procedures of the redevelopment plan. Along with this, their doubts were also resolved promptly by officials. It was also clarified in the meeting that the survey of the Tulsi Niketan scheme is being conducted by the GDA, in which full cooperation is expected from all residents. After the completion of the survey, detailed information about the scheme will be made available to all residents,' it added. According to Vats, a similar redevelopment plan was initiated in 2019, but could not be carried out. 'Only 300 of the 1,900 residing there are original allottees; the rest have been staying through power of attorney, which is not legally valid,' he said.
