ZoRO to oppose Centre's border fencing & FMR lifting proposal

Aizawl: The Zo Reunification Organisation (ZoRO) said it will intensify its opposition to the Centre's proposal to fence the India-Myanmar border and lift the free movement regime (FMR), a media statement issued by ZoRO said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma also supports their views, it said. ZoRO is an Aizawl-based group which seeks the reunification of all Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi tribes of India, Bangladesh and Myanmar by bringing them under one administration. ZoRO general secretary L Ramdinliana Renthlei said the organisation's leaders met Lalduhoma on Friday to apprise him about their activities opposing the scrapping of the FMR and the proposed fencing of the India-Myanmar border by the Centre. "ZoRO urged the chief minister to oppose border fencing and not to allot lands within Mizoram for execution of fencing works in Mizoram-Myanmar border areas and also make efforts to ensure that FMR stays as before. We appealed to Lalduhoma to oppose the decisions of the central government," Renthlei said in the statement. He added Lalduhoma expressed support to the stance of the ZoRO, vowing to take all necessary steps in this regard. ZoRO said by scrapping the FMR and fencing the India-Myanmar border, the Indian govt violates Article 36 (a) and (b) of the UN Declaration on the Rights Of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). "We strongly condemn the proposal of the Indian govt to further divide 'Zofate' or ethnic Mizos who are recognised by the world body as indigenous peoples living across the international border," the statement said. The statement said ZoRO will intensify movement against the decision of the Centre on border fencing and the FMR for which systematic preparations are being made and it appeals to 'Zofate' across the globe to support its efforts in unification of all the ethnic Mizos.
