Addanki: Six migrant workers died and more than eight were injured when a massive granite slab fell on them in a quarry run by Sathya Sai Krishna Granites at Konidena village in Ballikurava mandal of Bapatla district on Sunday. According to fellow workers and the Bapatla district police, heavy rain on Saturday night destabilised the heavy granite block which fell on a group of workers on duty at around 11:00 AM on Sunday. The boulder killed four workers on the spot and injured several people. Two of the severely wounded workers succumbed to injuries at a hospital, while eight more severely injured workers are undergoing treatment. The police officials identified deceased workers as Danda Badithya (48) of Chasa Nimakhandi village, Banmala Chehra (30) of Phasiguda village, and Santosh Goud (36) of Kasai village in Ganjam district, Bhaskar Bhishoi (40) and Tukuna Dalai (37) of Chandiput village of Gajapati district, and Musa Jena (43) of Daugan village of Kandhamal district, all from Odisha. The severely injured were identified as A Sudarsan, Alak Naik, Sira Goud, S Venkaiah, Subhash Malik, Pavitr Behra, Santha Naik, and Dubey. Bapatla SP Tushar Dudi visited the accident spot and coordinated the rescue efforts. He announced that the forensic and mining teams started their investigations, and a police case has been registered against the management of the quarry, following instructions from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. The Bapatla District Collector, J Venkata Murali, consoled the injured workers at the hospital in Narasaraopet on Sunday evening. Accordingto him, 16 people were working at the time of the accident. The Collector announced an ex-gratia of Rs 14 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 10 lakh to the severely injured, and Rs 1 lakh to the workers who suffered minor injuries. He assured the injured workers that the government would bear the expenses of their medical treatment. The Collector also announced that action would be taken on the management of the quarry based on the report from the mining department. Meanwhile, Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the tragedy. "I spoke with officials, instructed them to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured, and ordered a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident," said Naidu in a release. YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed sorrow over the incident. 'This is truly heart-wrenching. These workers lost their lives while toiling for their families,' said Reddy in a statement. He urged the government to ensure medical care for those injured in the accident and to provide immediate support and assistance to the families of the deceased. Addanki MLA and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, Labour and Factories Minister Vasamsetty Suresh, and others also expressed their shock over the incident.

VIJAYAWADA: Over five lakh people are expected to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public meeting at Amaravati on May 2, with elaborate arrangements underway for the relaunch of works for the people's capital, said Labour and Factories Minister Vasamsetti Subash on Monday. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy, Labour Minister and Krishna District In-charge Minister Vasamsetti Subash, and Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra held a preparatory meeting at the Machilipatnam Collectorate to discuss arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit. Collectors, elected representatives of the region, and officials joined the meeting to discuss logistics, including transportation, food, drinking water, and medical services for the public attending the meeting. Addressing the media, Minister Janardhan Reddy said lakhs of people from across the State would attend the event. He said that the TDP-led NDA government was determined to build a great capital at Amaravati to fulfil the public's aspirations. Minister Kollu Ravindra said around one lakh people were expected to come from Krishna district alone and that arrangements were in progress. He appealed to the public to attend the Prime Minister's programme. Krishna District SP R Gangadhara Rao and other officials also participated in the review meeting.

Officials should ensure that none faces any drinking water problem in Krishna district during this summer season, Minister for Labour and Factories Vasamsetti Subhash has said. Participating in the District Review Committee meeting at the Zilla Parishad meeting hall in Machilipatnam on Thursday, Mr. Subhash, also the Krishna district In Charge Minister, expressed happiness at the students from the district scoring well in both Class X and Inter examinations. After condemning the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam and observing two minutes of silence for the victims, the Minister went on to say that every person's role was important in making the district perform well on all indices. While reviewing the performance of different departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Water Resources, and MGNREGS, the Minister stressed the need for officials to raise awareness among farmers about the crop insurance scheme and commended the officials for settling 95% of the claims made by dairy farmers. Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra, who was also present in the meeting, said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu aimed to achieve a growth rate of 15% for the State. If the Gross State Domestic Product reached 15%, then the State would lead the country in economic growth, he added. Aligning with the Chief Minister's goals for the State, the district should have comprehensive plans for development of every sector, he said, adding that the officials had already identified marginalised people, who comprise the golden families (Bangaru Kutumbham), under the Zero Poverty P4 initiative. He said the Chief Minister would release funds for the fisherfolk community, affected by the ban on fishing, on April 26. In Krishna district, 2,000 people would receive the financial assistance, he said, adding that the Machilipatnam port would be ready by December 2026. District Collector D.K. Balaji, APSRTC Chairman K. Narayana Rao, MLAs Yarlagadda Venkata Rao, Mandali Buddha Prasad, K. Krishna Prasad, Varla Kumar Raja, MLC Kalpalatha Reddy and other officials were present in the meeting.
