Lady Longhorns tops TCU, head to first Final Four in 22 years
Lady Longhorns tops TCU, head to first Final Four in 22 years Led by 18 points from All-American Madison Booker and 13 points from Rori Harmon, the Texas Longhorns women's basketball team held off a feisty TCU Horned Frog squad, 58-47, to punch their ticket to the Final Four. This will be the first trip to the Final Four in 22 years for the Lady Longhorns. Booker and Harmon had the big games, but UT got huge contributions all over the court, especially from Kyla Oldacre, who had nine points off the bench. Hailey Van Lith led TCU with 17 points. The win was especially sweet for Harmon, who tore her ACL last season and has endured a long and painful road back. She had to watch last season as Texas was beaten in the Elite Eight by NC State. This year, Harmon has been the point guard engine that makes UT go on offense and defense. "I just think about going through my recover and coming back after 10 months," Harmon said after the game. "I'm so proud of myself and proud of my team for this moment." Booker added, "Rori Harmon is still that girl, please don't doubt here." Texas took the lead early and stretched the advantage to as much as nine points in the first half. But the Frogs cut the UT lead to just two points, 23-21, at halftime. TCU tied the game with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. But the Longhorns went on a 13-4 run to end the quarter and take control of the game. TCU was able to cut the lead to six with just over two miniutes to play. But the Lady Longhorns executed down the stretch for the 11 point victory and a trip to the Final Four. Texas is trying to win its second national championship in women's basketball. The Lady Longhorns went undefeated in 1986 under legendary coach Jody Conradt. Texas will face South Carolina in the national semifinal. The co-SEC regular season champions have played three times so far this season, with the Gamecocks winning two out of the three. The Final Four is in Greenville, SC, giving the Gamecocks a decided home-court advantage.

No. 1 seeded Lady Longhorns pull away from No. 5 Tennessee late, head to Elite Eight
No. 1 seeded Lady Longhorns pull away from No. 5 Tennessee late, head to Elite Eight The Lady Longhorns are headed to the Elite Eight. The Texas women's basketball team held off a stubborn Tennessee Volunteers team, 67-59. All-American Madison Booker lead UT in scoring with 17 points. The top-seeded Longhorns actually trailed the Vols 54-52 with 7:29 left in the game. But a Bryanna Preston layup and two straight baskets by Booker gave the Horns a 58-54 lead that Texas would never relinquish. It was Texas' stifling defense that led to the victory. The Vols only scored five points in the final seven minutes of the ballgame. Tennessee finished the game only shooting 37.9% from the field and 19.2% from the three-point line. Texas on the other hand shot 46.6% from the floor and an amazing 42.9% from behind the arch. Jordan Lee added 13 points for Texas, while Taylor Jones and Bryanna Preston each added 12 points. Texas, who is the No. 1 seed in Birmingham Region 3, will next face former conference rival TCU for a trip to the Final Four at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The No. 2 seed Horned Frogs took down No. 3 Notre Dame in the Sweet 16 71-62. Both Texas and TCU are 34-3 on the year.

Cedar Hill's "Team of Destiny" heads to state semifinals; Lady Longhorns' first appearance in 15 years
The Cedar Hill girls' basketball team is in the state semifinal for the first time since 2010. The Lady Longhorns are coming off a historic win over the defending 6A Division 1 champs in Duncanville, and coach Nicole Collins has gone as far as to say they are the "Team of Destiny." Now just two wins away from the ultimate goal, the players said they're as locked in as they've ever been. "Coach always tells us, 'Don't ever stay on the high highs or the low lows,'" Lady Longhorns forward Brooklyn King said. "Obviously Friday was a really high high for us, but It's just back to business. We got two more games and we didn't come this far to just drop the ball." The Lady Longhorns are ranked 10th in the state, making them the only ranked team left standing. Collins has made It known just how special she thinks this group is and that the "Team of Destiny" name didn't come from out of nowhere. She said the team participated in a basketball boot camp long before the first tip-off of the season, which she thinks is partly why they have had success this season. "Our motto this year was just being a trailblazer and trying to be the first to do something that hasn't been done before," Collins said. "We've had a few teams that have come through here and gone to state, so we've gotten over the hump." But if you ask the players, what they have up their sleeve has nothing to do with X's and O's or how good their field goal percentage is. Instead, it has everything to do with the bond they've made off the court. "There's no division anywhere," King said. "We're very welcoming with each other… It's just so connected, and I just feel that's why we click on the court: because we know each other on and off the court." "We're very close," Lady Longhorns forward Rylan Jones said. "I think that's why we're having such a successful season, actually. It's just an exciting thing for all of us to get to go through this together with this specific team. We all really love each other." The Lady Longhorns will tip off their state semifinal game against Plano East on Tuesday at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center In Fort Worth.
