NWF Lady Raiders still have something to prove

YUMA, Az. (WMBB) – The Northwest Florida State Lady Raiders have arrived at the NJCAA National Tournament in Arizona after receiving the No.3 at-large bid. However, this year they are not here to just there to make an appearance, they are there to make a statement. Sophomore first baseman Sister Arnold reflected on the journey, and discussed the team's at-large bid to the tournament after falling to Santa Fe College in the state playoffs. 'We went toe to toe in conference, but we went in thinking we were kind of untouchable,' Arnold said. 'And then we got there, and we were touchable. I think (that game) helped us in a way, for sure.' That loss served as a wake-up call for the Raiders, a reminder of the high bar they set at the start of the season: National title or nothing. Receiving the at-large bid gave them a second chance and it was definitely one they don not intend to waste. 'We got in with that at-large bid, so I feel like people are thinking, 'Oh, they kind of got a handout. They're not really that great,'' Arnold said. 'But I'm hoping we see that and use it as fuel, and that we go out, win ballgames, and play Raider softball the way we know how to.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. NWF Lady Raiders head to NJCAA Nationals as No. 3 seed

NICEVILLE, Fla. (WMBB) – The No. 3 Lady Raiders traveled to Yuma, Arizona, after receiving an at-large bid to the 2025 NJCAA Division I Softball World Series. The 56–4 Lady Raiders, three-time Panhandle Conference champions, have been given another shot at a national title after receiving the No. 3 seed as an at-large bid to the 2025 NJCAA Division I Softball World Series. The Lady Raiders are set to face the winner of No. 14 Southern Union State and No. 19 Arizona Western in their opening game. In recent years, Northwest Florida State has made back-to-back deep postseason runs. Last season, the Raiders advanced to the quarterfinals. The year before, they finished as national finalists. Head coach Andy Lee says the team's rigorous schedule — including consistent competition in the Panhandle Conference — has built both experience and confidence. 'We've been preparing all year for this,' Lee said. 'Playing in a tough conference gives our players the edge they need when it's time to compete on the national stage.' The team is led by All-American sophomore Sister Arnold, who has been a standout force this season with 66 runs, 13 home runs, and a .434 batting average. This time around, the goal is simple: bring home the crown. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Four Randall girls soccer players honored on UIL state All-Tournament team after title

High school soccer wrapped up last week in the Lone Star State, and for the first time ever, Randall's girls team finishes the season as state champions. The Lady Raiders closed out an impressive year with an incredible back-and-forth contest against Wimberley in the UIL Class 4A Division II title game that went into overtime and two rounds of penalty kicks before a winner was decided. Advertisement After ending regulation and a 20-minute overtime period tied at two, both teams made all five of their PK attempts in the first round. In the next round, Randall made two of its three penalty kicks, while the Lady Texans made just one of three. This year marked the first time in school history that the Lady Raiders reached the state title game, and the first time since 2010 the team reached the state semifinals. RHS finishes the season with a 23-5-1 record, taking down Bridgeport, San Elizario, Benbrook, Godley and Aubrey before meeting Wimberley in Georgetown. After winning the state championship, a number of Randall's players were honored on the 2025 UIL Soccer State All-Tournament Teams. Kyndal McClain was named the state title game's Most Valuable Player after notching an assist and making a shot during PKs. Here's a look at the other Lady Raiders who were honored on the All-Tournament team. Lady Raiders clinch postseason berth after perfect season

NICEVILLE, Fla. (WMBB) – The 20-0 Northwest Florida softball team has secured a playoff berth after finishing conference play with a perfect record. At the start of the season, little was expected by the team following two straight years in which national title runs were cut short. A roster dominated by freshmen was assembled, mixing up the previous year's rhythm. However, as the season progressed, the Lady Raiders found their momentum unchanged despite the new faces. Currently, the Lady Raiders are riding a 38-game winning streak and have compiled a season record of 54 wins and two losses. An undefeated record at home has been maintained, and the top spot in the Panhandle Conference was secured for the third consecutive year. Sophomore pitcher Cailyn Heyl has been credited with leading the defense, recording 128 strikeouts across 56 games this season. The Lady Raiders are now awaiting their opponent for the FCSAA Division I Championship Series, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 7. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
