Penn State Behrend highlights Autism Acceptance Month with special event
April is Autism Acceptance Month and an event at Penn State Behrend on Friday hoped to highlight services available for people on the spectrum in our region. Families living with people on the spectrum, as well as supporters of their services, gathered to hear from like-minded people on how to best help their loved ones. 'We brought in Kate Swensen, who is a mom, advocate and author. She just had a new book come out on April 1st. She is here speaking to the folks today about what her life has been like with her son Cooper, who was diagnosed at age 3. He's now a teenager and nonverbal, so really, really relatable to the crowd and people who work and love and live with people on the spectrum,' said Joe Lang, development director for Lakeshore Community Services.
