Auburn to host Sam Houston transfer Lamar Wilkerson for visit

Auburn to host Sam Houston transfer Lamar Wilkerson for visit Auburn has its sights on guard Lamar Wilkerson, who averaged 20.7 points per game for Sam Houston this season. Auburn's senior-laden roster is set for a major overhaul next season and is searching for the nation's best talent in the transfer portal to fill vital spaces. One player that Bruce Pearl and the coaching staff have their eyes on is Lamar Wilkerson, an all-Conference USA guard from Sam Houston State. According to Joe Tipton of On3, Auburn is one of several power teams Wilkerson plans to visit over the next several days. The official date for Wilkerson's visit is unknown due to the current dead period that will last until Friday, April 11. Once the dead period ends, Wilkerson and many others will be free to visit prospective schools. Wilkerson has started in 64 games over the last two seasons at Sam Houston State and averaged 17.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. The 2024-25 season was his best to date as he ended the year by scoring 20.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. He also logged 36 steals and 67 assists while shooting 48% from the field. He earned a first-team slot on the All-Conference USA team due to his stellar season. Auburn's guard rotation will be bare next season as Denver Jones, JP Pegues, and Miles Kelly are out of eligibility. Chad Baker-Mazara could return due to an NCAA ruling that gives former JUCO athletes another season of eligibility. Tahaad Pettiford will be a true sophomore next season, however, he recently declared for the NBA draft while maintaining college status. Neither player has officially announced their intentions to stay or leave, but adding a talented guard such as Wilkerson will be vital to a team that is set to lose over 50% of their roster this offseason. In addition to Auburn, Wilkerson will visit Kentucky, Indiana, and Ole Miss. Indiana and newly-named head coach Darian DeVries are the favorites to land Wilkerson, according to a prediction from On3's Pete Nakos.
