Are the Dodgers back to championship form?
Yahoo Sports senior MLB analyst Jordan Shusterman and Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports dissect the recent surge by the defending World Series champions and the impactful players returning to the lineup. Hear the full conversation on the 'Baseball Bar-B-Cast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I still think this was a very good weekend for the Dodgers to see the offense start to click. To see Mookie start to look better, to see Snell look the way that he did. I think there's a lot of positives and oh, Tony, I mean, holy crap, like what, unbelievable. He's gonna win MVP. I was a bit like disappointed they didn't make more moves at the deadline or I'm not, not disappointed, but just a little surprised, you know. And I think, I think a lot of the time like GMs and people would just be like, well, we have this guy coming off the IL and that is our deadline move. But I kind of feel like, I kind of feel like the Dodgers actually can execute that properly. Because the names were good enough. Sometimes it's like they're trying to sell you like the Cubs are trying to sell you. James and Ty coming off the IL. Great dude, I love him, but like, it's not really a deadline acquisition. Javier Assad, like, OK, are we getting World Baseball Classic aside, like the Dodgers can go, OK, Bobby Miller all of a sudden is up in the field. He's sitting 99 in the pen at AAA. Roki's gonna come back. I think they bring him back as a reliever would be my guess, which is honestly what I kind of always thought he was. Um, he's not, I don't don't think he's the mix to be a starting pitcher or the spin capacity or anything. And then you bring back Snell and Otani looks great and all of a sudden it's like, oh yeah, that's they're they're probably the the favorite to win the World Series, right? Muny. I know you're focused on the pitchers, rightfully so. Muny back is a huge deal, and that's where you start to have a lineup that looks like the best in baseball, right? And if you do get Mookie going again, Freddie's been awesome and now Tony looking the way that he does. And you mentioned Bobby Miller and Roy, yeah, those two guys in, in how they contribute in any capacity down the stretch. It could be zero innings. It's possible we see them throw zero Major League innings for the rest of the way. It's possible they end up being, uh, very important. We'll see what happens with Tanner Scott. They still have some other relievers, um, that are coming back, but I mean, Otani, like he, he looks better and better now on the mound every time out, the workload is increasing, and he's, you know, going to hit 50 homers again. Can the Brewers' hot summer carry to the postseason?
Yahoo Sports senior MLB analyst Jordan Shusterman is joined by Marquee Sports analyst Lance Brozdowski to discuss Milwaukee's run to the top of the NL Central and if the team can keep it going. Hear the full conversation on the 'Baseball Bar-B-Cast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript This Brewers run has been remarkable. They have the best record in baseball. They have won nine in a row. This was their ninth sweep of the season. Uh, big picture, what are you taking away from this? This incredible Brewer season so far. I think my angle is trying to figure out how sustainable this is. You know, it's such an incredible run. I'm trying to contextualize the fact that they're basically top three in every offensive and pitching stat, and their pen is great, and everything is like coming up Brewers; and I just struggle to see how they stay this hot. Like, if they stay this hot, they're winning the World Series is probably the answer. So you have to think about, okay, if they don't stay this hot, what do they come down to? And then does like the Dodgers all of a sudden look like a force from a rotation standpoint with Snell back and Otani striking out everybody, like, does that end up being like a coin flip series as you get into maybe the ALCS or a divisional round or something? So. Man, I, I, it's tough to see this team cooling off. They have a massive five games in four days with the Cubs starting next Monday with a doubleheader. That game is going to shake out the NL Central. And I think that has massive implications on kind of how good, I guess, the Brewers are, which I think is very good. Oh, totally. And I think it's so interesting because I'm almost getting to a point in a bizarre way that we used to feel about the Dodgers in the postseason where it's like, that's awesome, you're winning 105 games and you have all the best players, but we don't really care until you get to October. And in a weird way, the Brewers are almost in the same spot because we've seen them have these magical regular season runs before. Now, not like this, right? I mean, right now they're pacing for the best team in franchise history. But if we also think about it that way, the only other time they had the best record in baseball at the end of the regular season was 1982 when they went to the World Series. So this is obviously a franchise that is still trying to do that for the first time. I don't know what this looks like in October. You mentioned that they are ranking this highly in, in, You know, offensive and in pitching, and yet some of the underlying stuff is concerning, as you mentioned, like, are, aren't they still like 30th in barrel rate or whatever, like, stuff where you're just like, how are they doing this? Uh, but man, everything's coming. We got, we got Jacob Murrowski's pulling holographic Charizards in the postgame. I mean, everything is coming up Brewers. This is really remarkable. Close

Cubs Anticipate Shota Imanaga Returning to Rotation During Cardinals Series
Cubs Anticipate Shota Imanaga Returning to Rotation During Cardinals Series originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs have had issues with their starting rotation in 2025. From the Justin Steele season-ending injury to the Javier Assad setback, there have been a lot of question marks in the rotation. But, fortunately for the Cubs, there is some good news on the way. Advertisement According to Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports Network, during an appearance on the Rahimi and Harris show for 670 The Score, the Cubs are expected to get starting pitcher Shota Imanaga back in the next week. "I anticipate him [Imanaga] joining the team for the road trip," Brozdowski said. "He would lineup to probably pitch in those games against St. Louis, which would obviously be a really nice return, so we'll see." Imanaga returning for the Cubs' road trip, and specifically for the St. Louis Cardinals series, would have the Cubs getting their ace back within the next week. Brozdowski mentioned Imanaga was getting one more rehab start in Triple-A on Friday, June 20th. Advertisement So, if given normal rest, Imanaga could be making his return around June 25th against the Cardinals. While it may be an optimistic outlook, it's still a great sign that even if not against the Cardinals, barring a setback, Imanaga's return is right around the corner. Chicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga (18) walks toward the mound to be checked out by a trainer after being injured against the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth inning at American Family McLoone-Imagn Images He hasn't pitched since May 4th against the Milwaukee Brewers, when he was forced out of the game early as he suffered a hamstring issue. Now, with his rehab start projected to be his last, the Cubs are on the cusp of getting their ace back on the mound. Matthew Boyd, Jameson Taillon, Cade Horton, and Colin Rea have held it down in his absence, and each will likely remain in the rotation once Imanaga returns. Ben Brown, with his 5.57 ERA, will likely be the odd man out in the rotation. Advertisement Imanaga, before the injury, had a 2.82 ERA and a 3-2 record. Getting him back in the rotation would be a huge boost for the Cubs. Not only is it great for winning games, but his return should help determine how the team approaches the trade deadline. The Cubs have needed Imanaga, and with this report from Brozdowski, it seems like Imanaga's return is imminent. Sitting 5.5 games up in the NL Central, this news is great for the Cubs. Red Sox Urged to Acquire Cubs' Kyle Tucker Amid Rafael Devers Trade
Red Sox Urged to Acquire Cubs' Kyle Tucker Amid Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the Boston Red Sox sent Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, there was a lot of speculation over how the team would move forward. With Devers out of the picture, a designated hitter spot opened up, and significant money was also freed up. Advertisement The Red Sox, after the trade, have money to reallocate elsewhere. Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports Network on X shared his thoughts on the deal, and more specifically, urged the Red Sox to acquire Chicago Cubs star outfielder Kyle Tucker. "Boston has to reallocate Devers $ quick to justify (the Devers trade)," Brozdowski wrote. "(Kyle Tucker candidate?)" The idea of Boston shipping off Devers to free up money, and then turning around and spending it on Tucker, would be another layer to the Red Sox's stunning choices. While Tucker is great, the Red Sox have too many outfielders as it already is. Advertisement Roman Anthony is the top prospect in baseball and isn't going anywhere. Jarren Duran, while in trade rumors, is a talented player with multiple years of control. Wilyer Abreu is hurt at the moment, but once he returns, he projects to be in the lineup consistently for Boston. Lastly, Ceddane Rafaela is an incredible defensive center fielder, and with a big contract, likely wouldn't be on his way out, barring a team falling in love with his defense. Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker (30) hits an RBI single during the eighth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Hartline-Imagn Images Overall, the Red Sox have too many outfielders, and if they acquired Tucker, there wouldn't be any room for multiple players in the outfield. While moving Devers frees up a spot at designated hitter, there would still be too many startable outfielders on the team. Advertisement While not specified, the Cubs trading Tucker mid-season is incredibly unlikely. The Red Sox would have to wait until after the year and offer Tucker a massive contract to come to Boston. It's an intriguing idea, but, despite the money being available, with all the top prospects on the roster, it would make more sense to retain some of their top prospect on long-term deals as opposed to spending a lot on Tucker. Not to mention, a Tucker contract would be more than Devers' deal. While Brozdowski isn't making a strong case for Tucker to Boston, it's an interesting path for the Red Sox to take amid a controversial trade. But, with the Cubs likely to try their hardest to retain Tucker, the Red Sox front office would have a tough time bringing Tucker up to Boston, especially with all of the outfielders already on the roster.
