Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford in another twist as UFC boss Dana White says he IS promoting super-fight

DANA WHITE has insisted he WILL promote the Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford fight - marking yet another twist. Canelo is due to defend his undisputed super-middleweight titles against unbeaten American Crawford in September. 3 Dana White insists he will promote Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford Credit: @danawhite And Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh - the financial backer behind the bout - initially announced that UFC boss White would promote. The super-fight was set for the Las Vegas Raiders' NFL stadium with Netflix on board to broadcast that bout. That was until Alalshikh made a U-turn and claimed Saudi-based Sela would promote and it would instead be on pay-per-view. White was probed on Alalshikh's comments after UFC 316 - but hit back to maintain he will be involved in the fight. TKO Holdings - who own the UFC and WWE - signed a multi-year partnership to establish a boxing promotion alongside Saudi Arabia's Turki Alalshikh. As well as a UFC-style boxing league, two super-fights were set to be promoted by TKO and White every year. Canelo, 34, beat William Scull, 32, to regain the 168lb undisputed thrown in early May as part of his four-bout deal with Alalshikh. Meanwhile Crawford, 37, has not fought since moving up to 154lb to win the WBA title against Israil Madrimov, 30, in August 2024. 3 Crawford with Turki Alalshikh and Canelo

The offseason is winding down as the 2025 NFL Draft is in the rear-view mirror and free agency, for the most part, is over. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders' rookies hit the field for practice last weekend, and the veterans will join them soon as OTAs begin on Monday. That means training camp is just around the corner and will be here before you know it! We also had some other significant news last weekend as the Raiders' All-Time passing leader, Derek Carr, announced he's retiring after suffering a shoulder injury last season, and the 2025 NFL Schedule is out. So, we have plenty to talk about for this week's mailbag. Advertisement As always, anything Raiders-related is on the table and fire away with anything that's on your mind. Jeanty practices for the first time as Raiders hope he's the answer to their rushing problems

(AP Photo/John Locher) LAS VEGAS (AP) — Ashton Jeanty won't be able to do what he does best for quite some time — make tacklers wish they never even thought of putting a hand on him. So not much can be read into Jeanty breaking free into the open field at the Raiders' rookies camp Friday, but Las Vegas hopes it's at least a preview of what's to come. Advertisement The Raiders placed a lot of faith in Jeanty, the Heisman Trophy runner-up out of Boise State, by drafting him sixth last month. He was the highest-drafted running back since the New York Giants took Saquon Barkley second in 2018. Jeanty also received a four-year, $35.9 million contract that includes a $22.7 million signing bonus, his agent, Henry Organ, said. His $8.97 million annual salary is the 11th-highest among running backs, according to Over the Cap. He called it a 'lifelong dream' to even be in an NFL rookies practice. "So to finally be out here, get to work with the team, it's just exciting,' Jeanty said. Advertisement Jeanty fits the profile of a Pete Carroll-coached team. Carroll relied on a similar type of back in Seattle, and Marshawn Lynch was instrumental in the Seahawks making back-to-back Super Bowls and winning one. His rugged running style and 5-foot-11 inch, 215-pound frame made tackling him an often painful experience for defenders. At 5-8, 211, Jeanty used a similar bruising style in leading the nation with 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns. More telling, he rushed for 1,970 yards after contact, which by itself would have led the FBS. That's why the Raiders decided to use such a high pick on a running back, even though it goes against the general current thinking. They could have addressed a different position at No. 6 and still taken a quality running back later in what was a deep draft at the position, but found a potential generational type of player too difficult to pass up. Especially for a team that had the worst ground game in the NFL last season, averaging 79.8 yards per game. Advertisement 'It's one of those deals where it meets the need and the best player meet together,' general manager John Spytek said the night the Raiders drafted Jeanty. "You kind of feel like that's a perfect storm at that point too, and it's just too much to ignore at that point. He's the perfect player for us this year, and we were thrilled to make him a Raider.' And now Jeanty is getting his first taste of the NFL with other players who also are beginning to learn what it takes at this level. One of his new teammates, offensive lineman Caleb Rogers, played against Jeanty in Texas high school scrimmages and runs in much the same social circle. 'I had players who played with him,' said Rogers, a third-round draft pick out of Texas Tech. "So just hearing a lot about him, I'm excited to continue to be around him, see how he works, see how he's a pro. I've heard a lot about how he approaches the game and how he does a great job, and so I'm excited just be a part of that.' Advertisement Rogers, though, said he doesn't remember those early interactions with Jeanty. 'I don't because he happened to have (Denver wide receiver) Marvin Mims on his team," Rogers said. "He has the record for high school football receiving yards, so he was kind of doing his thing back then.' Jeanty hopes to give Rogers and the rest of his new teammates performances they won't be able to forget. They are excited to have him. Star defensive end Maxx Crosby live-streamed his podcast on the first night of the draft with center Jackson Powers-Johnson. Both were ecstatic when the Raiders selected Jeanty, with Crosby pumping his right fist and Powers-Johnson raising both arms and yelling. Advertisement There also is video of Powers-Johnson meeting Jeanty, embracing him and saying, 'I'm your center.' Expectations certainly are high inside and outside the Raiders facility. Now it's a matter of whether Jeanty meets them. He has a long way to go, but Friday was a start. 'Getting out just seeing everything, how it all works,' Jeanty said. ___ AP NFL:

The 10 best remaining free-agent fits for the Raiders following the NFL Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders' roster is full. After drafting 11 rookies, signing 14 undrafted free agents and adding defensive tackle Laki Tasi, they have all 90 offseason roster spots filled. But while they'll have to release someone from the current roster if they want to sign someone else, that doesn't mean the roster is set. The Raiders hold rookie minicamp from May 9-11 and mandatory minicamp from June 10-12. Observations from those practices could lead general manager John Spytek and coach Pete Carroll to make changes. Advertisement The Raiders will still have significant cap space after signing all of their draft picks to rookie-scale contracts. That money could be saved for contract extensions or to roll over into next season, but it could also be spent on late free-agent additions. As of this week, any free agents who are signed won't count toward the compensatory pick formula for the 2026 draft. Those won't be determined until the season plays out, but the Raiders are currently projected to be awarded a fourth-round pick and a fifth-round pick next offseason, according to Over the Cap. Here are the 10 best remaining free-agent fits for the Raiders. The Raiders made a significant investment in the wide receiver position in the draft. They took versatile inside-outside receiver Jack Bech in the second round, big-bodied deep threat Dont'e Thompson in the fourth and slot receiver/quarterback Tommy Mellott in the seventh. Still, it could make sense for them to add a veteran. Bech should be a rookie starter, but Thompson and Mellott likely will be limited to situational roles early in their careers. Jakobi Meyers is the only receiver who's locked in as a starter. Tre Tucker started 14 games last year, but his level of play was just OK, and he'll need to earn his spot along with the rest of the group. If Tucker doesn't look like he'll take another step forward in his third season, then a veteran could provide an upgrade. The top option on the market is Allen. He's 33 years old, but he remained productive last season with 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. He's at his best when he's working from the slot and could slide into a starting role there. Elandon Roberts should be capable of holding down the fort at mike linebacker, but will linebacker remains a precarious position for the Raiders. The current No. 1 would probably be Devin White, who hasn't been an effective starter for a few seasons. Perhaps Tommy Eichenberg, whom the Raiders drafted in the fifth round last year, or another young linebacker could make a significant leap, but this is a spot on paper where it'd make sense to add help. Advertisement Kyzir White has been a solid will linebacker throughout his career. He started 17 games last year for the Arizona Cardinals and finished with 137 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. If the young linebackers don't show flashes in OTAs, then the Raiders should give him a call. The Raiders feel decent about their outside cornerback options. Jakorian Bennett should be a starter while Eric Stokes, Decamerion Richardson and Darien Porter compete for the other spot. At nickelback, however, the Raiders are less settled. Darnay Holmes and Thomas Harper are currently their only real options, and neither of those players has proven himself to be capable of being a full-time starter. While Gilmore is most famous for his work as an outside cornerback, he's also capable of lining up at nickelback. He'll turn 35 in September and, at this point in his career, transitioning to a slot role is probably best. Samuel played just four games last season due to shoulder and neck injuries, but he was a solid starter who played both outside corner and nickelback from 2021 to 2023. He's only 25 and could be worth a flier if the medicals check out. Douglas failed to make the Raiders roster back in 2021 and wound up being an impactful starter that season with the Green Bay Packers. He has started 51 games since then and spent time both as an outside corner and nickelback. The Raiders would need his services at nickelback. He's a big corner at 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, isn't afraid to get physical in the run game and has a history of making plays in the pass game. He'd provide an immediate upgrade. Boyd is coming off a down year with the Tennessee Titans, but that might've been a product of his circumstances. He'd previously been a good slot receiver and perhaps could recapture some of his past success with a much better quarterback in Geno Smith. Hilton has been a longtime starter at nickelback. He had 73 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and five pass deflections last season. He's getting up there for a corner at 31, but he would still be an upgrade for the Raiders. Advertisement Kendricks is another older player at 33, but he showed he could still be a productive starter last season with the Dallas Cowboys. In 15 games, he had 138 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions. Although he's lost a step, he's still a better option than Devin White at will linebacker. Fuller has bounced between cornerback and nickelback throughout his career, but the Raiders would use him in the slot. He struggled with concussions last year, but he was a solid player when he was on the field. Cooper is no longer the same player who was a three-time Pro Bowler with the Raiders from 2015 to 2018, but he could still be a starting-caliber X receiver. Maybe a reunion comes together at some point this offseason. (Photo of Keenan Allen: Michael Reaves / Getty Images)
