Chimney Rock State Park in Western North Carolina will reopen June 27
Chimney Rock State Park and the Chimney Rock attraction in Western North Carolina will reopen June 27, the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources and N.C. State Parks announced Friday. Why it matters: Much of the park has been closed since Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina last fall. It will reopen exactly nine months after the storm hit the state. Zoom in: Helene wiped out the park's entrance bridge. There were also landslides that blocked the park road, and damage to railings and retaining walls, according to the park's website, plus flooding in the elevator for the Chimney Rock attraction, a 315-foot freestanding rock spire. What to expect: Park hours will be announced soon. You must make reservations in advance to access the Chimney Rock attraction. Reservations will launch roughly one week before the attraction reopens. Capacity will be limited as recovery efforts are ongoing. The park includes views of the mountains, Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. The big picture: Outdoor recreation, including hiking, is a major draw for tourists to Western North Carolina. N.C. Gov. Josh Stein recently went on CBS' " Late Show with Stephen Colbert" to talk about Helene recovery and to "say to all of America, Western North Carolina is open for business." What they're saying: "Chimney Rock is a western North Carolina jewel," Stein said in a statement. "Reopening the state park will draw tourists back to this area. I am pleased that DNCR, DOT, and local leaders in Chimney Rock were able to get this park open for people to enjoy and so local businesses can thrive."

Arlo Willner, son of late-night TV royalty, accused in NYC slashing
The young man who allegedly slashed three people during a fight outside a Manhattan bar Saturday is the son of late-night TV royalty — and is now facing an attempted-murder charge. Arlo Willner, the 20-year-old offspring of late 'Saturday Night Live' music coordinator Hal Willner and his wife Sheila Rogers — an Emmy Award-winning producer for James Corden and David Letterman — pleaded not guilty to the upgraded charge and related counts at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court. 3 Arlo Willner, the 20-year-old offspring of late Hal Willner and his wife Sheila Rogers, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Getty Images Advertisement His bail was set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond — and bond was swiftly posted for him, allowing him to stroll out of jail in less than a day. Willner — whose 2004 birth was marked in a New York Post column at the time — allegedly started the bloody argument around 3:30 a.m. when he approached the trio of victims outside Sally's Bar in Kips Bay and asked to buy cocaine, according to a criminal complaint. The three male victims 'informed [Willner] that this was not the place for that,' and the suspect's ensuing verbal outrage turned physical when he pulled a knife, the complaint said. Advertisement Willner allegedly slashed one victim, 46, in the neck that led to a deep laceration and massive bleeding, while he stabbed another victim, 45, in the shoulder and slashed the third, who is in his 30s, in the stomach, according to the complaint. The rampage finally came to an end when one of the victims grabbed the knife and threw it in the street. Manhattan prosecutors also charged Willner with two counts of first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon on top of the attempted-murder rap. He was initially slapped with only assault and criminal-possession-of-a-weapon charges by police. Advertisement While a judge set the $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond amounts in the case, the suspect was out of custody in less within a day after celebrity bondsman Ira Judelson secured a $200,000 bond, law-enforcement sources said. 3 Willner allegedly slashed the trio of victims after asking to buy cocaine. J.C. Rice Judelson is known as the 'bondman to the stars' for working with numerous high-profile clients over the years, including Harvey Weinstein, DMX and Ja Rule. Willner's mother Rogers was a three-time Emmy-winning supervisor producer for 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' before the CBS program ended in 2023, and she previously worked for the 'Late Show with David Letterman,' according to her LinkedIn profile. Advertisement Hal Willner was a highly regarded music producer for 'SNL' for decades before his death in April 2020. He was suffering from symptoms associated with COVID-19 when he died at 64 years old, according to reports at the time. He was also known for putting together a series of eccentric all-star tribute albums. 3 Willner allegedly started the argument around 3:30 a.m. outside of Sally's Bar in Kips Bay. J.C. Rice A lawyer for Arlo Willner, David Scott Smith, declined comment on the case Sunday. A call left for Rogers and Willner was not returned. His next court appearance is May 22.

Read what these American, British music legends say about their hearing loss
Several music legends now publicly discuss their tinnitus to help break the stigma and encourage others to protect their hearing. Pete Townshend, famous song writer and guitarist with the British rock band The Who, often speaks publicly about his struggle with partial hearing loss and tinnitus and how homeopathic medicine has helped him. He first noticed peeps and whistles and he initially thought he was hearing birds. "Legend has it that we were one of the loudest bands in the world," he once quipped during an appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman." "People often come up and blame me for the fact that they're deaf." He also cited the 1967 explosion of Keith Moon's drum kit onstage as a contributing factor to his own hearing loss. The rock legend has advocated for hearing protection through the non-profit H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers). Singer-songwriter Chris Martin of the British rock band Coldplay publicly cautions kids, teens and adults to use hearing protection when listening to music or playing an instrument. Other famous musicians who are speaking out about their hearing damage and the need for protection, include: hip-hop artist and producer singer-songwriters Neil Young and Barbra Streisand, Danish drummer Lars Ulrich, with the American heavy metal band Metallica. Hearing damage can happen slowly over time from repeated exposure to loud music. It also can happen abruptly from a one-time event, like a gunshot or explosion or being next to an amp at a concert. Townshend blames his own hearing damage to a combination of both. This article originally appeared on Nashville Tennessean: Coldplay, The Who musicians warn others to protect their ears

Oscar presenters Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Whoopi Goldberg rehearse before the show
Emma Stone knows her way around the Dolby Theatre, but the even the two-time Oscar winner needs a little rehearsing before the big show. This year she's not a nominee but a presenter, though which category she'll be announcing is under wraps until it's broadcast live around the world on Sunday. The day before the ceremony, Stone was casually dressed in a brown shirt jacket, white T-shirt and jeans. On the Oscars stage Saturday, she mimicked walking to the microphone in high heels before immediately flubbing her lines — a moment of levity for the busy production staff milling around. 'Oh God,' she said. 'This is going to go great.' Stone eventually made it through her lines and hugged the stand-in playing the winner of her category before handing her the award. At Oscars rehearsals, the golden statuettes are real, but the winners are 'for this rehearsal only' with a lineup of working actors playing all variety of nominees, from shorts directors to best actress candidates. The Associated Press got a peek at what's to come — though most details about who's presenting what, and what they will say are secret until the live broadcast. Many stars cycled in and out of the show venue Saturday morning. Andrew Garfield, Whoopi Goldberg, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Miley Cyrus, Oprah Winfrey, Sterling K. Brown, Ana de Armas, Goldie Hawn and Miles Teller all made their way to Hollywood to practice their lines, walk in their show heels and find their marks. After Stone, Winfrey made her way to the stage wearing sky high heels — presumably to practice navigating the long stage in the heels she's wearing to the show. She and her presenting partner, who will remain a surprise until show day, elicited a rare standing ovation from the people in the room — an array of production staff, camera people and publicists. Later, Garfield took Hawn's arm on the walk to the stage, where they'd be running through the two awards they're set to hand out: Animated feature and animated short. Garfield, in glasses, light chinos, button up and sweater draped over his shoulder, fanned himself with the winner's envelope. He and Hawn, in a loose black pantsuit, chatted and laughed together waiting for the go-ahead. On the next run-through, he took her hand on the walk and draped his arm around her shoulder when they got to the microphone. Their fun chemistry got laughs in the room. 'Ok here we go,' Hawn said, after a brief flub and re-set. Garfield let out a hearty laugh. Randolph, who won the supporting actress award last year for her performance in 'The Holdovers' wore a floral jumpsuit and looked out into the audience below, full of oversized pictures of stars and nominees where they'll be seated. The men were even more casually dressed — Teller wore a baseball cap, jeans and a 'Late Show with David Lettermen" T-shirt. Brown looked like he was either coming from or going to the gym, in athletic shorts and a back sweatshirt. He'll be presenting the live action shorts prize with de Armas. Both were delighted by their fake winner's well-researched speech. Brown even made a joking 'wrap it up' gesture. But soon it was time for the crew and everyone to break for lunch — they're in the final stretch before the 97th Academy Awards, airing live around the world Sunday on ABC and streaming on Hulu starting at 7 p.m. EST. ___ For more coverage of the Oscars, visit

White House Correspondents' Dinner host says 'no one wants' Trump to show up
Comedian Amber Ruffin hopes President Donald Trump will once again opt out of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner this year. The "Late Show with Seth Meyers" writer will be headlining the dinner in April and discussed the event on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" on Wednesday. Although Trump never attended the dinner during his first term, Tapper asked Ruffin if she would be interested in seeing him this year. "No!" Ruffin exclaimed. "No one wants that. Sure, it's something to do. I can't imagine he would." "He should," she added. "He's missing out on one of the cool things about being the President of the United States, but I don't know that anyone's looking forward to being in the same room as him." Jesse Watters: The Media Is A Joke And Biden Can't Take One Read On The Fox News App Trump has not yet indicated whether he will attend the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Tapper remarked how Ruffin's boss, late night host Seth Meyers, had previously headlined the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in 2011. That year, Meyers infamously mocked Trump, who had attended the event. "Donald Trump has been saying that he will run for president as a Republican, which is surprising because I just assumed he was running as a joke," Meyers said at the time. Tapper pointed out how some have credited that moment for inspiring Trump to eventually run for president in 2015. "[Meyers] got us into this mess," Ruffin joked. "It is his fault. If you're looking for somebody to blame, blame my boss." Click Here For More Coverage Of Media And Culture She continued, "He did what he had to do. It cannot be your job to razz people, and then this man comes alone and is like 'I'm going to be president.' You have to laugh. Ultimately, the joke's on us, isn't it?" The annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner is attended by politicians, journalists and celebrities and usually features jokes by the host and the president.
