Panthers 2025 training camp tracker: Top takeaways and observations from Day 11

Tuesday's onslaught of rain didn't stop the Carolina Panthers from getting in some more work. In fact, one rookie even took to the wet conditions. Here are the top takeaways and observations from Tuesday's outing of training camp . . . Held Ransom 2025 fourth-round pick Lathan Ransom was the star of this morning's session, where he tallied an interception of starting quarterback Bryce Young and a sack of third-stringer Jack Plummer. Head coach Dave Canales praised the rookie safety for his preparedness. "I think one thing that I'm noticing about him is he always seems to be in great position to make a play," Canales told reporters. "And that comes with study, that comes with being disciplined about owning your leverage, analyzing the formation, run-pass and then putting yourselves in an athletic position to make plays. And I couldn't be happier with where he's at and where he's headed." Ransom also hit the lectern following practice, and credited his veteran teammates for teeing up the good vibes in some not-so-good weather. "Yeah, I think the [defensive backs] brought a lot of energy today—between Jaycee [Horn], Mike [Jackson], Demani [Richardson], Tre [Swilling], all them, Nick [Scott]," Ransom stated. "Lettin' us know that it don't matter if it's raining or snowing, we gotta go out there and show up." The 23-year-old defensive back is one of a few youngsters vying for the starting job next to free-agent addition Tre'von Moehrig. Ransom's stiffest competition has been second-year safety Demani Richardson, who has also stood out this summer. Hamstrung Both wide receiver Hunter Renfrow and rookie outside linebacker Nic Scourton have been sidelined due to mild hamstring injuries. But Canales seemed optimistic about their outlooks moving forward. "He is doin' great," he said of Renfrow. "He's in return-to-play right now with our training department. He's running, he's cutting. I think it's just the load of practice that we're just trying to be smart on, and just get him completely healthy so we can really see him in these games. And I feel really strongly that he's there, but I think it's more of a capacity thing." Canales said Scourton is in the "same boat." Their statuses for Friday's preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns has not yet been determined. More rain in this cloud That preseason opener will be preceded by a joint practice between the two teams on Wednesday. And just like this morning, tomorrow's session is set to be a rainy one. Canales, however, doesn't seem worried about the forecast. "We're just gonna practice," Canales said. "The field was great. The turf itself, there wasn't a lot of slipping. Our grounds crew have done an amazing job just making sure that it's draining properly and all that. So, we'll go out there, we'll practice. "And I think Kevin [Stefanski] kinda expects that. He texted me this morning. He said, 'It looks like rain for the next 37 days.' But it'll be good. The energy will be good. They won't even be thinking about the water, I promise you. It'll be about this opportunity to go against other pros." Top observationsThis article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers 2025 training camp tracker: Top takeaways from Day 11

Panthers rookie has sensational performance at Tuesday's practice

A hidden gem of the Carolina Panthers' 2025 draft class may not be hidden for much longer. Safety Lathan Ransom put his stamp all over Tuesday's rainy outing of training camp. The rookie defensive back not only picked off starting quarterback Bryce Young, but also punctuated the workout with a sack of third-stringer Jack Plummer on the last play of 11-on-11 drills. Head coach Dave Canales talked about Ransom's sparkling performance after the final whistle. "Just being where he's supposed to be," Canales said of Ransom, whom the Panthers selected in the fourth round of the 2025 draft. "I think one thing that I'm noticing about him is he always seems to be in great position to make a play. And that comes with study, that comes with being disciplined about owning your leverage, analyzing the formation, run-pass and then putting yourselves in an athletic position to make plays. And I couldn't be happier with where he's at and where he's headed." Ransom showed that discipline and preparation during his impressive collegiate career at Ohio State University. There, as a three-year starter and national champion, the six-foot, 206-pounder amassed 227 combined tackles, three interceptions, 3.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Reporters also got a chance to talk to Ransom this afternoon, and he credited his standout session to the vibes from his teammates. "Yeah, I think the [defensive backs] brought a lot of energy today—between Jaycee [Horn], Mike [Jackson], Demani [Richardson], Tre [Swilling], all them, Nick [Scott]," Ransom said. "Lettin' us know that it don't matter if it's raining or snowing, we gotta go out there and show up." The 23-year-old is in the mix for the starting job next to fellow safety Tre'von Moehrig, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal out of free article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers S Lathan Ransom has sensational outing at Tuesday's practice

NFL Draft profile and projection for safety Lathan Ransom

NFL Draft profile and projection for safety Lathan Ransom Lathan Ransom spent five years at Ohio State, appearing in 56 games and playing a major role on the defense in his final four full seasons on the Buckeyes. He now moves on to the NFL, where his phsyicality will earn him respect and playing time. His most memorable achievement with the Buckeyes, in a career full of great plays, will surely be helping string out and tackling Quintrevion Wisner for a big loss on second down during the epic goal-line stand against Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Where should Ransom expect to go in the Draft? Let's break it down. Lathan Ransom, Safety Draft Projection: Round 3-5 Pro Day Results (As Reported by The Columbus Dispatch) Bench press: 20 reps Vertical jump: 36.5' 40-yard dash: 4.53 seconds 20-yard shuttle: 4.26 seconds Broad jump: 10'1' The one potential knock on Ransom is his speed. That 40 time is solid, but it doesn't quite keep pace with the fastest receivers in the league. That's why Ransom is a safety, not a corner. But his strength and versatility means he'll have an impact on an NFL roster, as he's strong in run defense (again, ask Texas) and he's more than fast enough to help with over the top coverage or to pick up tight ends. He didn't go in the first round and isn't expected to be taken in the second, but he should certainly have his name called, probably by the end of the fourth round but possibly in the fifth.

Bucs get help on both sides of the ball in latest mock draft

Bucs get help on both sides of the ball in latest mock draft Today is another day in the long journey to the 2025 NFL Draft, which, of course, means we now have another mock draft to break down and analyze. Thankfully, there is an added angle to this mock draft we discussed today that makes it a tad more special and gives a little more to look at through our lens. Chad Reuter of NFL Media published a 4-round mock draft on Friday. As we get ready to start a new week, what better time to discuss the picks? As we have discussed, Jason Licht and the Bucs had a great 2024 draft cycle. 2025 is set to be just as important a year as any for the team, especially considering how close this roster is to being in contention for a Super Bowl. Let's look at what Chad Reuter gave the Bucs as they look to pursue that perfect roster. Round 1, Pick 19: Shemar Stewart, Edge, Texas A&M Round 2, Pick 53: Shavon Revel, CB, East Carolina Round 3, Pick 84: Lathan Ransom, SAF, Ohio State Round 4, Pick 121: Wyatt Milum, OL, West Virginia The picks of Shemar Stewart and Shavon Revel are ones that make a lot of sense for the Bucs. Stewart would be a defensive project for Todd Bowles, but he helps the team address their big-time need at the edge rusher position. The signing of Haason Reddick allows them to be a little more than flexible with who they pick to play opposite him on the edge. As for Shavon Revel, he is a top-ten player for me in this draft class, but the torn ACL he suffered this year will cause him to tumble down the board. He can be the Bucs' number-one cornerback alongside Zyon McCollum and set them up for sustained success at the position. The final two picks, Lathan Ransom and Wyatt Milum, make a little less sense to us. The Bucs have solidified their offensive line, the picking of Milum would do more of that. There isn't much for him to do in terms of starting so the pick seems like one that should go a different direction. The pick of Lathan Ransom makes more sense than Milum, but it also is confusing. The Bucs seem to be gearing towards moving ahead with Tykee Smith and Antoine Winfield Jr. Ransom, which would give the team some depth, it isn't a need, but it could make sense. With Antoine Winfield Jr. having some injury history, it would serve as a nice insurance policy.
