Douglas County rollover crash leaves 22-year-old dead

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Kan. – One person has died after a rollover crash in Douglas County on Friday night. A Lawrence police officer located a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck in a field near Midland Junction, located near U.S. Highway 24-59 and N 2000 Road. Armed security guards heading to KC's Country Club Plaza via new owners The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and life-saving measures were attempted to save the victim at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver missed the curve. Evidence suggests there was no other vehicles involved. The driver was identified as Eddie Thomas Brooks, 22, of Topeka. Mass. law enforcement team arrests suspect linked to drug trafficking

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WWLP) – A joint law enforcement team comprised of members of the Mass. State Police, Lawrence Police, and Drug Enforcement Administration arrested a man from the Dominican Republic last Thursday in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation. Massachusetts State Police said that the team was investigating a methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking operation that had been linked to a man under suspicion of using a false identity. Law enforcement officials were able to obtain a warrant for the suspect's residence on Bailey Street in Lawrence. Berkshire DA's Office takes down large-scale narcotics trafficking ring When officers entered the home, they located two individuals including the suspect. The search proved successful, as police found large quantities of narcotics of different varieties, three firearms hidden in furniture, narcotic packaging material, and about $15,000 in cash. Police said that documents were also discovered, including a foreign passport that was used to identify the suspect as 32-year-old Xavier Jose Perez-Tejeda of the Dominican Republic. During the operation, officials seized the following evidence (weights are approximate): 12 kilograms of powdered Fentanyl 1.6 pounds of Methamphetamine 286 grams of pressed Fentanyl pills 96 grams of pressed Methamphetamine pills 83 grams of Cocaine Glock 22 pistol containing 14 rounds of ammunition Kel Tec 9mm pistol containing 8 rounds of ammunition Charter Arms 38 Special revolver containing 5 rounds of ammunition Perez-Tejeda was arrested and brought to the Andover Barracks for booking, and was arraigned in Lawrence District Court. Charges have not yet been released to the public. 22News will update this story if more information becomes available.
