Motorist caught speeding by automatic camera on motorway fined over £1,000
A motorist who was caught speeding by an automatic camera on a Swindon motorway has been fined more than £1,000.
Lee Maynard, 56, of Wellsway, Keynsham, Bath and North East Somerset, had been travelling in a Mercedes Benz on the M4 in Swindon on October 4, 2024.
He pleaded guilty to speeding in excess of the 70 miles per hour motorway limit in a hearing at Swindon Magistrates Court on Monday, July 28.
The 56-year-old was fined £1,077 for the offence, as well as being ordered to pay a £431 surcharge and £90 in costs.

He was also handed five penalty points on his driving record for the offence.
The M4 speed checks are part of Wiltshire Police's campaign to crack down on the 'fatal five' offences that contribute to serious crashes.
As well as excess speed, these offences include driving without a seatbelt, using a phone while driving, drink or drug driving, and careless and dangerous driving.
