Gethin Jones sends poignant message to co-star Helen Skelton amid 'romance'

Gethin Jones has further fuelled speculation he's in a new romance with his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton after sending her a flirty birthday message Gethin Jones has continued to fuel romance rumours with his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton after he sent her a sweet birthday message on social media. ‌ The TV presenters have been close pals for a while, but their friendship is said to have developed into something more after they were spotted leaving the BAFTAs together back in May. Though they have yet to confirm they are in a relationship, they have been spotted hanging out off set and enjoying a spa day at a country club recently. ‌ In a further clue things are hotting up between the pair, Gethin, 47, took to his Instagram stories to publicly wish Helen happy birthday as she turned 42 on Saturday. Posting a photo of animal-loving Helen surrounded by a flock of sheep, Gethin wrote 'Pen-blwydd Hapus', which is Happy Birthday in his native Welsh. ‌ He then joked: "Having the best time hanging out with your mates," and added a kiss at the end of the message, suggesting their relationship is more than platonic. The single stars have both had their hearts broken in recent years. Gethin's engagement to Katherine Jenkins was called off in 2011 and he's had a string of short relationships since. While Helen split from ex-husband Richie Myler - who she shares three kids with - back in 2022. ‌ Helen and Leeds Rhinos rugby player Richie, 35, had been married eight years and had just welcomed their third child, Elsie, when he they split. He now has two more children with Stephanie, also 35, whose millionaire father Andrew Thirkill is president of Richie's rugby club. Shocking her followers at the time, Helen broke the upsetting news on Instagram and said: "Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children." Writing in her 2023 autobiography, In My Stride, Helen recalled her heartbreaking split and described how she hadn't seen it coming. She wrote: "I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn't see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me." ‌ Despite Richie leaving her, Helen refuses to cut him out of her life entirely for the sake of their kids. She says she always wants her children to have a father figure and know their parents were once in love and happy. It's for this reason she's decided to keep photos of her and Richie on her Instagram, instead of deleting them. She explained: "I want them to know that we loved each other, but things change and that's OK too." Welshman Gethin has not been romantically linked to anyone since he dated First Dates star Cici Coleman. In the past, he is also thought to have briefly dated former The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh. ‌ Gethin and Helen first sparked rumours of a possible romance in March when they both took part in a 24-hour roller skate challenge for Comic Relief which raised £34 million for charity. Gethin has publicly praised Helen's resilience as he gushed about how he loved spending time with her. While Helen publicly said of Gethin: "My dear @gethinjonesc... You are some man. I don't publicly say often enough how much love and respect I have for you my friend because I assume it is well known, but for the record you're a legend and I am beyond grateful to have you by my side on the rink, the sofa and beyond.' So if Helen has found love again with Gethin it would be some happy news. And it certainly looks like it's heading that way. A source told MailOnline: "Helen and Gethin have an extremely close working relationship and there's a feeling in recent months their friendship has blossomed into a deeper connection. They're both keen to keep a lid on it to avoid public scrutiny, but there's no denying their closeness both on and off screen."

Tom Briscoe addresses big Hull FC milestone and makes new contract vow

There's a sense of irony that Tom Briscoe could score his 100th Hull FC try against the same opposition and at the same venue where he made his club debut 17 years ago. That irony isn't lost on the outside back, who debuted for the Black and Whites as a 17-year-old at Warrington Wolves back in February 2008. Fresh-faced, the now 35-year-old is locked on 99 tries for Hull with seven to his name this year as he looks for his centurion effort. Advertisement And for a player who has also represented his country and won four Challenge Cup trophies and two Super League titles while at Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards, it would certainly add some further emotion, too, going outright ninth on the all-time competition charts should he dot down for his 174th league try against the Wire. READ MORE: Death notices and funeral announcements from the Hull Daily Mail - June 25, 2025 READ MORE: Highlights as Warrington Wolves keep season alive with victory over Hull FC "It's funny how things work out to potentially do it where I debuted for the club," Briscoe, speaking in Hull's pre-match press conference, said. "It would be massive. Obviously, to get to 100 tries for the club would be a proud moment, and just going into ninth by myself in the top 10 in Super League would be a nice achievement. Advertisement "It's pretty crazy, really. It's been a while since I started at the club, and to come back, it was something that I wasn't aware of, but it's nice to be on the verge of that. "I think I can put a lot of those tries down to the teams and the players I've played with, for which I'll forever be grateful, and the opportunities I've had to put me in that position." That modesty sums Briscoe up, who has predominantly played at centre for Hull this year, with the player, ever present in Super League in 2025, out of contract at the season's end and putting his hand up for a new deal. Briscoe first told Hull Live in pre-season about that desire and once again last week. He remains in good nick and is ready to enter what would be his 18th professional season as a rugby league player. But right now he's relaxed about the situation, knowing he has a job to do in what has been a resurgent Hull side this year. Advertisement Asked if there was an update on his future, Briscoe said: "Not at the moment. I've made no qualms about it. I'd like to stay, and we'll just see how performances go and what the club wants to do. I'm not worried about it; that'll come. Even if it's the end of the season, I'm confident that something will transpire. "My performances on the field, personally, I think do warrant that (a new deal), and that's all I'm trying to do, make sure my performances are good enough to be part of this team going forward." Briscoe has taken inspiration from former Leeds teammate Ryan Hall, who will play on into a 20th season next year. As for his own longevity, the outside back, who turns 36 next March, said: "I'm not going to put a number on it. As long as I feel fit and healthy and mentally up for the challenge and as long as I can get a contract and perform to a good enough standard to be in Super League and deserve a spot, I'll keep playing. "We'll see how I feel. There's a target there with Ryan, but again, we'll see how I feel and see how things progress with the club and then make a decision when that time comes." Advertisement And back to his try-scoring, there's no shock that one effort against Hull KR stands out. Picking a loose ball up, Briscoe, then aged 18, ran 90 metres to score a sensational try that is still talked about today. He added: "My favourite try has got to be the derby, the full-length one at the KC Stadium (now MKM Stadium) running down the touchline. I watch that back, and the quality of the videos I see on that makes me feel old. It's a funny moment. But I don't want to make it all about me. I think there are bigger things happening within the team that are more important." However, there's no denying that a Briscoe try and a Hull FC win would be a pretty sentimental moment.

Hull Live approached Hull KR for a comment on the matter, with Rovers confirming an investigation has been launched to look into the incident, although the club are not eager to comment at this stage until they know more.
