A Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone spin-off titled Rio Palo began recruiting background actors in North Texas this month, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Paramount's Rio Palo, which is Spanish for "Stick River," was announced in a news release from Ferris, Texas, last week and will be filmed in Ferris, Cleburne, Weatherford and Rio Vista. Newsweek reached out to a Paramount spokesperson via email for comment. Why It Matters Local hires for film and television shoots can produce short-term economic activity in small communities and provide residents with paid work opportunities. The show's identification as a Yellowstone spin-off has drawn attention because the franchise had generated multiple related series under Sheridan's supervision. Sheridan, 55, who is also the brains behind Landman, created Yellowstone and its spinoffs, including 1883, 1923 and The Madison. What To Know Legacy Casting posted multiple notices that listed roles, locations, dates and pay rates for Rio Palo shoots in August 2025. Reported calls, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, included: Weatherford: a photo double for actor Juan Pablo Raba, matching a 6-foot-1-inch frame on August 14 at $200 for 12 hours. Cleburne: children to play "kids to prisoner #1" on August 15 at $200 for 12 hours and a brother to play "prisoner #2" at $200 for 12 hours; rodeo attendees and contestants on August 21–22 at $110 for 10 hours and a beer concession-stand role at $200 for 12 hours; boys aged 16–19 to appear as "Dalton's friends" on August 21 at $200 for 12 hours. Ferris: a male ambulance driver on August 18 at $110 for 10 hours. Rio Vista: bar-goers (and bar-goers with vehicles) on August 26 at $110 for 10 hours. Interested applicants are advised to follow Legacy Casting's listings and local casting pages for application instructions and updates. Taylor Sheridan, Kelly Reilly and Kevin Costner attend the premiere of Paramount Pictures' "Yellowstone" on June 11, 2018, in People Are Saying Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams said in a statement: "This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris. Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools, and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing. This city has evolved, adapted, and grown. Paramount's decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next. We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started." 1923 star Brian Konowal previously spoke out about Taylor Sheridan in an interview with Newsweek: "I absolutely love the Yellowstone universe and can't wait to see what Taylor continues to create within it." What Happens Next Paramount and production representatives had not released casting confirmation statements or full series details, and the release date, principal cast and broader plot for Rio Palo remained unannounced at the time of publication. Landman season 2 will premiere on November 16 on Paramount+.

‘Landman' Casting Calls Offer Clues for Season 2

Landman is heading north for part of Season 2. The Texas-based oil rig drama is reportedly filming scenes for Season 2 in Oklahoma. In addition, a few curious casting calls hint that some of the action could take place at a casino. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Legacy Casting recently posted several casting calls looking for Texas residents who can work in Durant, OK, 120 miles northeast of Fort Worth. The casting calls include a mid-40s male to play an 'ogling man.' Extras are also needed to appear as casino-goers and others who can work in a scene with their own vehicles, 'specifically any color other than red or white.' All of the extras will earn $110 for a day of work on July 8. Producers have not confirmed filming at a casino, but it should be noted that the Choctaw Casino & Resort is located in Durant. Collider reported that most of Landman Season 2 has been filming in Texas, with scenes shot on Texas Christian University's campus, and a funeral scene shot in Jacksboro. Scenes have been filmed in North Texas locations in Fort Worth, Benbrook, Weatherford, Cresson, and Irving. Previous casting calls posted by the Austin American-Statesman earlier this year teased the need for extras to play paramedics, retirement home administrators, 30 "roughnecks with trucks,' 'beautiful young ladies' aged 22 to 30 to interact "closely with wealthy men in a scene,' and a 5'5' 120-pound running double for Demi Moore. The first season of Landman ended with Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) dying after heart Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) was kidnapped and tortured by a drug cartel before being rescued by the cartel's leader, Galino (Andy Garcia), who then proposed that Norris's oil business align with his cartel. The rest of the main cast included Moore as Monty's wife Cami Miller, Ali Larter as Tommy's ex-wife Angela Norris, Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris, Michelle Randolph as Ainsley Norris, Paulina Chavez as Ariana Medina, and Kayla Wallace as lawyer Rebecca Falcone. For Season 2, Sam Elliott has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Stefania Spampinato (Grey's Anatomy) will play the wife of cartel boss Galino. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Thornton offered his take on potential Season 2 storylines. 'I would certainly hope that the family dynamic continues and deepens,' he said. 'I would also hope that we explore the weird position that Tommy is in with Andy's character. Is he going home at night feeling guilty and wondering, 'Am I in cahoots with criminals?'' 'Tommy isn't dealing with henchmen anymore,' the Landman star added. 'He knew how to deal with them. But now he's got a smart guy on the opposite side of the law who is his equal. We're in a chess match, and I hope that's explored.''Landman' Casting Calls Offer Clues for Season 2 first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 7, 2025

Season 2 of "Landman" is filming in North Texas. Want to be an extra? Here's how

The filming of Season 2 of the Paramount hit show " Landman " is underway, and North Texans have a chance to be extras in the show. Legacy Casting has posted several open calls on MyCastingFile , a website used to cast extras and background actors. The scenes are being filmed in various locations, including Fort Worth, Benbrook, Weatherford, Cresson and Irving. Thirty "roughneck" men with trucks, in any color except red, are needed for a night shoot in Cresson on Friday, April 4. Instructions say if you are booked with your vehicle, "do not wash it." The scene portrays men on their way to work in the patch, and the roads are dusty/dirty, so dirty trucks are a plus. A second listing seeks senior citizens who are available to be regulars at Western Skies Retirement Home. You may remember when Angela and Ainsley volunteered at the nursing home in Season 1. The scenes are shot at Hilltop Park Rehabilitation and Care Center, a nursing home in Weatherford . There are separate calls for administrator and attendant extras as well. If you don't own a truck, there's still an opportunity for you. On Wednesday, April 2, extras are needed to work as "truck stop patrons" with their vehicles, but no red or white cars will be accepted. This shoot will take place in Weatherford. If you are a paramedic, extras are needed for a scene in which you will look like you are administering first aid to one of the 'Landman' characters. You must have first-response experience to be considered for this role. All of the extra roles are paid roles. To be considered, you must create a profile on the mycastingfile website. So, who knows? You or one of your friends could soon be seen on the big screen. Season 2 of "Landman" does not have a specific release date yet.
