Unlike earlier Lego Batman entries, Legacy of the Dark Knight offers a fully open-world Gotham , where players can glide across skyscrapers, grapple through alleys, and drive different versions of the game spans multiple interpretations of Batman across comics, films, and games. Gameplay shown during the reveal featured Batman battling Penguin in a chase sequence inspired by Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman, as well as a Lego parody of Bane's iconic 'darkness' speech from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Bros. described the project as 'a love letter to Batman,' weaving together decades of mythology. The demo featured Batman chaining together combo attacks, performing stealth takedowns, and using gadgets cast includes longtime allies Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Commissioner Jim Gordon.
