Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight announced at Gamescom; open-world Gotham coming in 2026

Games and TT Games officially unveiled the title on Tuesday(August 19) at Gamescom's Opening Night Live, confirming a 2026 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and Nintendo's upcoming Switch new game is the first dedicated Lego Batman console release in over a decade and represents TT Games' most ambitious superhero project to date. Unlike earlier Lego Batman entries, Legacy of the Dark Knight offers a fully open-world Gotham , where players can glide across skyscrapers, grapple through alleys, and drive different versions of the game spans multiple interpretations of Batman across comics, films, and games. Gameplay shown during the reveal featured Batman battling Penguin in a chase sequence inspired by Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman, as well as a Lego parody of Bane's iconic 'darkness' speech from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Bros. described the project as 'a love letter to Batman,' weaving together decades of mythology. This game brings together nearly every facet of his legacy, letting you experience the full range of what makes Batman iconic.'Unlike traditional Lego titles known for slapstick combat, Legacy of the Dark Knight draws heavily from Rocksteady's Arkham series. The demo featured Batman chaining together combo attacks, performing stealth takedowns, and using gadgets cast includes longtime allies Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Commissioner Jim Gordon.
