A new era for TT games
Batman is returning to consoles, this time in Lego form, with Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Warner Bros. Games and TT Games officially unveiled the title on Tuesday(August 19) at Gamescom's Opening Night Live, confirming a 2026 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2.The new game is the first dedicated Lego Batman console release in over a decade and represents TT Games' most ambitious superhero project to date. Unlike earlier Lego Batman entries, Legacy of the Dark Knight offers a fully open-world Gotham , where players can glide across skyscrapers, grapple through alleys, and drive different versions of the Batmobile. The game spans multiple interpretations of Batman across comics, films, and games. Gameplay shown during the reveal featured Batman battling Penguin in a chase sequence inspired by Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman, as well as a Lego parody of Bane's iconic 'darkness' speech from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.Warner Bros. described the project as 'a love letter to Batman,' weaving together decades of mythology. Jim Lee, President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC, said in a statement: 'Whether he's the wrathful Dark Knight, the brilliant detective, or the unlikely father of the Bat-Fam, Batman has constantly evolved, shaped by the world around him while remaining a timeless symbol. This game brings together nearly every facet of his legacy, letting you experience the full range of what makes Batman iconic.'Unlike traditional Lego titles known for slapstick combat, Legacy of the Dark Knight draws heavily from Rocksteady's Arkham series. The demo featured Batman chaining together combo attacks, performing stealth takedowns, and using gadgets mid-fight.The cast includes longtime allies Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Commissioner Jim Gordon. Villains confirmed so far include Joker, Poison Ivy, Ra's al Ghul, Penguin, and Bane, the latter voiced by British actor and comedian Matt Berry, known for What We Do in the Shadows. In a first for the Lego franchise, TT Games has added multiple difficulty tiers, allowing players to choose between lighter family-friendly settings and a more punishing 'Dark Knight Mode.' Players connecting a WB Games account can unlock bonus outfits, including the Golden Age Batsuit.Between 2005 and 2022, TT Games produced more than 20 Lego titles, including the blockbuster Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. But the studio has been quieter in recent years, as Warner Bros. experimented with other developers and Lego itself partnered with Fortnite.Legacy of the Dark Knight marks TT Games' return to form with its largest open-world Lego environment to date. The project also signals a new phase for the Lego gaming brand, leaning less on slapstick humor and more on cinematic storytelling, while retaining the accessibility that made the series popular with younger audiences. The game is scheduled to release worldwide in 2026.

Not Robert Pattinson, but The Dark Knight will return to your screen in 2026: Watch LEGO Batman The Legacy of the Dark Knight trailer
Batman's Arkham series is one of the most popular gaming series in the world, one that showcases a highly comic-accurate caped crusader and gives the players a chance to explore the darker and grittier side of the superhero's story. Robert Pattinson's film, The Batman, was a return to that theme, but a sequel to that is still pretty far on the horizon. Meanwhile, PlayStation just announced a new game, LEGO Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight, and it might just hold the audience's attention until we get to the DCU Batman, or Pattinson. The LEGO Movie was an important moment for Warner Bros, and Batman was so iconic that he got a separate spin-off for himself. Now LEGO Batman is returning with a new game, and this time it's an open-world game, something never done before with LEGO. According to the trailer, the film will take back the players to the origin of the characters, as he discovers his fears, his strengths and ultimately his purpose. There is an homage to the scene from Batman Begins where Alfred and Bruce are discussing the latter's plans for the future and his need for turning into a symbol. Of course, the scene and the game itself will be more hilarious than the original story of the character, because it's hard to showcase something that dark and harrowing using LEGO. ALSO READ: New Superman film is already in the works, confirms James Gunn; John Cena led Peacemaker to shape the future Over-the-top action graphics have been included in the game, that mimic comic book clouds. Players will get a chance to explore the city, according to their free will, and acquire items to build all the gadgets and contraptions that help them during their journey. References to the Batman movies don't end there, as the trailer includes the iconic scene from the last Batman film, where Penguin struggles to get out of a crashed car as Batman walks towards him slowly, with explosions continuing in the background. This was the same scene that many fans used to draw parallels between Pattinson's Batman and David Corenswet's Superman. The final scene of the trailer features actor and comedian Matt Berry, voicing Bane, as he delivers the 'You think darkness is your ally?' dialogue from The Dark Knight Rises. TT Games, who are responsible for other well-known LEGO games, including LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, are helming the project, along with Warner Bros and DC Studios. The film will drop on the market in 2026.
