Road in Leicester closed after 'significant' water leak

A road in Leicester is closed due to a burst water pipe which has caused "significant damage" to its said St Peters Road in Highfields was closed between the junctions of St Stephens Road and East Park Road due to flooding. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from the Central Station were in attendance at the water leak and advised members of the public to avoid the Trent said teams were working to repair the burst water pipe and added it was confident the fix would be complete by 10:00 BST. A spokesperson for the water company added: "We'd like to apologise to those experiencing no supply, poor pressure or discoloured water in the LE2 and LE5 areas of Leicester this morning. A house in Glen Parva has been badly damaged in a fire in the early hours of Sunday Fire and Rescue Service said five crews tackled the blaze in Rushton Drive after a 999 call at 03:44 BST.A fire service spokesperson said the residents had escaped the house, and a man had been taken to hospital as a Police attended the scene and said nobody had been injured in the fire. Firefighters in Leicestershire have been working through the night to bring a grassland fire under Fire and Rescue Service said a crew was called out to Croft Hill at about 20:15 BST on Thursday.A second appliance was requested due to the size of the blaze and a third was later required after "a significant change in the wind speed" saw the fire spread area of about 2,000 sq metres has been affected, the fire service said. Warehouse roof destroyed by huge fire

A warehouse in Loughborough has been badly damaged in a large fire. Eight crews were sent to tackle the blaze at the single-storey industrial unit in Great Central Road at about 03:00 BST on Sunday, according to Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Firefighters wearing breathing equipment entered the partially-disused building to tackle the flames while they were doused from an aerial platform. The roof of the building was destroyed with parts of the rest of the property badly damaged, a fire service spokesperson added. National Grid and gas network operator Cadent were also called to isolate supplies to the property. Fire crews remained at the scene throughout Sunday to ensure hotspots did not reignite. Playground equipment valued at more than £9,000 has been destroyed in a fire in Thorpe Astley.A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said it received a a call about smoke coming from the village park off Lakin Drive at 07:22 BST on Town Council said the climbing frame, playhouse and slide had been damaged in the Police said it had received a call at 07:45 reporting play equipment had been set alight, adding no arrests had been made and inquiries were ongoing.
