BBC Bargain Hunt couple's 'ordinary' item sends bidders into frenzy at auction
Joe and Mhari were left in hysterics as their metal toilet paper holder caused chaos at auction in the latest episode of the BBC show, which aired on Sunday. The blue team on Bargain Hunt experienced a shocking twist when their purchase, a cast iron toilet roll holder, became the unexpected highlight at auction. Married couple Joe and Mhari competed in the BBC show's Sunday (June 1) episode. They were up against pals Brad and Max who formed the red team on the BBC programme. With expert John Cameron advising them, the pair trawled through car boot sales and antique markets, handpicking three items including one relating to equestrian themes which they hoped would make significant profits. Their spirits took a dip after a novelty clock they chose fetched only half its estimated worth. However, it was their metallic loo roll holder that ended up creating the auction room buzz, reports Leicestershire Live. Having been valued conservatively at £8 by expert Raj Bisram, the item witnessed an intense auction warfare. Joe and Mhari could barely contain their amazement as the bidding for their £15 acquisition shot up. A mixture of humour and disbelief engulfed the room when the item eventually clinched £32, laying the groundwork for a tidy £17 gain. The result prompted an incredulous reaction from Joe, who turned to Mhari and exclaimed: "You're joking! They've gone mad." In addition to their unanticipated windfall, the pair also accomplished a lucrative sale of six buttons they had acquired for £49, these small treasures made a grand exit at the hammer price of £110. On the contrary, the red team set their sights on procuring an item with a culinary or beverage theme, eventually settling on a small barrel which they purchased for £27. Brad and Max then chanced upon an 18th-century wine bottle, costing them a substantial £140, meaning they fulfilled their big spend requirement. They splurged on their final item, securing a vibrant orange designer chair for £118. The red team hit the ground running, with their barrel fetching a neat profit of £28 after being sold for £50. Their next item, however, resulted in a loss of £10, leaving the fate of their venture hinging on the outcome of the orange chair. Unfortunately, the duo were left disheartened when it only managed to fetch £70 at auction, leading to a loss of £48. In a desperate bid to turn a profit, Brad and Max accepted Stephanie Connell's bonus buy offer of three gold heaters for different types of alcohol for £15. The bonus buy was sold for £35, bringing the team's overall total to a loss of £10. This outcome meant that Joe and Mhari narrowly triumphed over the red team with a modest profit of £19.

Coronation Street fans speculate Billy Mayhew's exit as actor Daniel Brocklebank is 'axed'
ITV Coronation Street fans fear that they know how Billy Mayhew will be leaving the cobbles, following the news that actor Daniel Brocklebank will be departing the ITV soap Coronation Street enthusiasts reckon they've sussed out the way Billy Mayhew will bow out of the show, and it's set to be quite the tearjerker. Billy, portrayed by Daniel Brocklebank, first walked on to the street in 2014, swiftly becoming a beloved character. His journey has been peppered with intense storylines ranging from murder to struggles with addiction. Beyond the challenging plots he's faced, Billy's romantic connections have kept viewers gripped, seeing him entangled with characters like Todd Grimshaw (played by Gareth Pierce) and his late spouse Paul Foreman (portrayed by Peter Ash). Tragedy struck Billy last year with the loss of Paul, who succumbed to motor neurone disease, leaving him distraught. In an unexpected twist, it was announced this month that actor Daniel will exit the soap following a compelling storyline yet to unfold on our screens, reports Leicestershire Live. Coronation Street's executive producer Kate Brooks revealed intriguing details about the upcoming narrative arc that will mark the end of Billy's stint in Weatherfield. Speaking to the Mirror, she divulged: "Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit." As speculation mounts, the belief of how Billy will depart grows stronger amongst viewers. Recently on the soap, as fans would have observed, Todd Grimshaw sparked a relationship with the new character Theo Silverton (played by James Cartwright), which hasn't been all smooth sailing given Theo's revelation of being a married father of two. Theo opened his heart to Todd, revealing the harrowing ordeal of being coerced into conversion therapy by his deeply religious parents to alter his sexuality. However, Theo's past stormed back last week when a familiar face, Noah, turned up at the Rovers and cozied up with Billy. Struck by the sight of Noah—who works alongside Billy in the church—Theo confessed to Todd that Noah had been involved in his traumatic conversion therapy experience. Infuriated by this revelation, Todd confronts Noah, only to be appalled by Noah's unchanged stance on homosexuality as a sin. Now, Coronation Street fans are anxious that Noah may feature heavily in the plot leading to Billy's departure from the show. Amidst online speculation on a fan page, one viewer expressed: "Why do I have a feeling this Noah fella is going to contribute to Billy's downfall and eventual exit?" Agreement quickly followed from another concerned fan: "Exactly what I said." A third voiced their prediction: "Yep a conversation therapy storyline I think for them." Contemplating a darker scenario, another mused over the potential for a tragic end for Billy, suggesting either suicide or murder could be his fate: "Poor Billy! Maybe it will end with him taking his life? Or is murdered?"

Mum downed two bottles of wine as she drove home - but her excuse was chilling
Chantelle Henley Stocks, 33, was arrested after failing a roadside breath test - giving a reading of 113 micrograms per 100ml of breath while the legal limit is 35 micrograms A mum-of-two who was caught drink-driving told the police she had downed two bottles of wine to calm down after running into a man who had once attacked her. In the early hours of April 21, Chantelle Henley Stocks, 33, was driving in Coalville, Leicestershire, when police stopped her after being contacted by a member of the public who informed them the woman was drink-driving. When stopped, Henley Stocks failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. She was then taken to a police station where she gave a reading of 113 micrograms per 100ml of breath - with the legal limit being 35 micrograms. Henley Stocks appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on May 23, where she pleaded guilty to the drink driving offence. Jabeen Naru, representing Henley Stocks, told the court: "A couple of years ago she was seriously harmed - strangled and left for dead - and that person ended up in prison. On this occasion, which was Easter Monday during the bank holiday weekend, she had been out. "By chance, she came across the perpetrator and this caused her to have an anxiety attack. She had a couple of bottles of wine in her car and she pulled over and drank them and continued home. She was drinking to calm her nerves. She regrets it." Ms Naru said Henley Stocks had been employed at the time as a professional carer, driving to people's homes to look after them. She said the woman had handed in her notice after the offence, knowing she would lose her driving licence, reported Leicestershire Live. She has been banned from driving for 25 months and given a 12-month community order that will include 100 hours of unpaid work. She was ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
