Coronation Street fans floored over Bernie star's age as she celebrates major birthday

Coronation Street fans have been left in disbelief after discovering the real age of actress Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter on the ITV soap
Coronation Street fans were gobsmacked to discover the real age of actress Jane Hazlegrove.

Jane burst onto the scene in 2019 as Bernie Winter, the long-lost mother of Gemma (played by Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul (portrayed by Peter Ash), quickly becoming a hit with viewers.

Bernie has been at the centre of some major plots, including the poignant storyline in 2023 where Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), leading to his tragic death in September 2024 with Bernie at his side.

Additionally, Bernie's world was rocked when her long-lost son Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) made an unexpected appearance last year. Her romantic escapades have also been a hot topic, particularly her beloved relationship with Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

Before joining the cobbles, Jane graced our screens in Silent Witness, The Bill, Doctors, and notably as Kathleen 'Dixie' Dixon on BBC's Casualty from 2006 to 2016, reports Leicestershire Live.
However, it's her recent birthday that has left fans astounded. Celebrating her 57th birthday on the 17th of July, a fan posted on a Corrie Facebook group: "Happy 57th birthday wishes to Jane have a fantastic day."

The revelation sparked a flurry of compliments from fans, all agreeing that Jane looks absolutely fabulous for her age. Someone else exclaimed: "No way she doesn't look it ."
A third surprised fan added: "I thought the same!" In agreement, another commented: "An amazing actress, she looks good for her age doesn't she?".

When she's not gracing the soap world, Jane is blissfully in love with her devoted soap star wife Isobel Middleton. The couple exchanged vows in 2015 and have shared over 28 years together.
Isobel, an accomplished actress herself, is no stranger to the small screen. She has portrayed three different characters on Emmerdale throughout the years. She appeared as Dr Lane in 2014, played a barrister during Simon McManus' trial in 2018, and in 2020, she took on the role of Jean Rawson.
However, Emmerdale isn't the only soap opera where Isobel has made her mark. She featured as Sadie Banks in BBC's EastEnders back in 2002.
Not just confined to television, Isobel also had a role in the 2009 blockbuster Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Antiques Roadshow guest barely reacts as mum's portrait fetches five-figure sum

An Antiques Roadshow expert was on hand to discuss a painting that had a very personal connection to its owner. WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Antiques Roadshow. ‌ An Antiques Roadshow guest didn't quite know what to say when he discovered just how much his artwork was worth. ‌ The BBC team had set up shop at Arley Hall in Cheshire, where expert Amin Jaffer was presented with an artwork that held more than met the eye. ‌ Upon seeing the portrait of a woman, Jaffer noted: "You might think you're looking at a portrait by a European artist of the 1930s. In actual fact, this painting was done by an Indian artist in the 1950s." He then asked the guest about the subject of the portrait, to which the guest replied: "Yes, the sitter's my mother. It was painted in India. The artist worked for Grindlays bank which was where my father worked." Jaffer revealed that the artist was none other than Krishen Khanna, an Indian painter who had maintained contact with the guest's mother after painting her portrait. ‌ He shared: "And the story of Grindlays Bank is fascinating because Krishen Khanna, his family originally came from Lahore. "With the separation of India and Pakistan, they moved to Shimla where he worked in Grindlays Bank. Well the artist gives up banking in 1960 and becomes a professional painter. ‌ "He takes the leap, although he had very little money and took that big step to become a professional artist and of course, most of the works we know of his, date from that later period, from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, etc. "It's extremely rare to find a picture from Krishen Khanna from 1954, from this experimental phase." The specialist revealed that, following a handful of evening art classes, Khanna became "a really important figure" frequently regarded as "one of the great modern painters of India". ‌ He added: "It's a fascinating picture, it's very, very much rooted in European painting of the 1930s. It has a very, very luminous effect with this very thick painting. "Krishen Khanna has become a big name and what's happened is the whole market for modern Indian painting has gone through the roof. "Partly with the birth of private museums in India, with the Indian diaspora, Indians in Britain and America, in south east Asia, who want to reclaim some of this modern heritage and have started to collect." ‌ When asked whether he had any notion of the artwork's potential value, the visitor honestly responded: "None. None whatsoever. It's never been valued. "I've mentioned to my mother that I might bring it here today and she said 'Go ahead. See what happens.' But no idea whatsoever." ‌ Jaffer then gave his official valuation, stating: "Well I think she would be happy to know that were it to be offered at auction, it would probably be within the estimate of something like £30,000 to £50,000 today." The crowd, including the guest's wife, gasped in surprise at the staggering figures, but the owner himself remained stoic. After a moment, he simply said: "Crikey." ‌ He then turned to his wife, who asked: "Are you shocked or am I?. Jaffer remarked: "I think you're going to make her a very happy lady today", to which the guest responded: "Thank you very much indeed. She will be." The audience erupted into applause as the guest gazed at the painting in wonder.

9pm, BBC TwoThe will-they-won't-they drama about two people who fell in love and parted 20 years ago takes a heartbreakingly dark turn, as we learn the real reason Alison (Teresa Palmer) left Sheffield without telling Daniel (Jim Sturgess). The pair finally meet up in Sydney, but it was always going to be an awkward reunion – especially as they both now have spouses. Was their love only ever meant to stay in the past? Beautiful, tragic and set to a top-notch soundtrack. Hollie Richardson 8pm, Channel 4It's the semi-finals, and the four remaining pastry pummellers must create an edible floating city. There's also a special guest judge dropping by: Gabriella Cugno, the official chocolatier for the 2023 film Wonka. She'll be challenging them to create a chocolate bar fit for a blockbuster. Ali Catterall 8pm, Channel 5Helen Skelton, JB Gill and Jules Hudson explore more of the British coastline. On the itinerary: Tynemouth Long Sands, the new surfing hotspot in North Tyneside; a conservation project involving photographing porpoises in Pembrokeshire; and mustard being made in Norfolk. HR 9pm, U&AlibiThe Auckland PI Alexa Crowe (Lucy Lawless) may be less gung-ho than Lawless's Xena: Warrior Princess but she gets the job done with similar good humour. Her latest case is a slippery one, not least because it involves murder at a family-run coconut oil firm. But there's also a bubbly, babbling cameo from Bill Bailey as her former client Enzo. Graeme Virtue 10pm, Channel 4The 1991 murder of Janine Downes is this week's cold case that the Silent Witness star Emilia Fox and the former senior detective Dr Graham Hill are attempting to crack. Downes's body was found in Wolverhampton's red light district – interviews with key witnesses lead them to ask if she may have been the victim of a serial killer. HR 11.30pm, Sky MaxA very grownup cartoon from DC Studios' James Gunn, following a black ops team that is a motley crew of monsters. There's a harrowing flashback in this episode, as 'the weasel' has a nightmare that shows his past – and he's definitely not 'dreaming about squirrels' like the others assume. HR Women Talking (Sarah Polley, 2022), 11pm, BBC Two Based on the 2018 novel by Miriam Toews, which was in turn based on true events, Sarah Polley's Women Talking is startlingly unconventional. The story of a Mennonite community in remote Bolivia whose women discover they have been drugged and raped, it centres on the discussion of how they should react. Do they leave, do they fight back, or do they do nothing? With a world-beating cast (Rooney Mara, Jessie Buckley, Claire Foy and Frances McDormand), the film is light on action but will linger long after the credits roll. Stuart Heritage Women's International One-Day cricket: England v India, 1.45pm, Sky Sports Main Event The third one-day international in the three-match series. Women's Euro 2025 football: ITV1 7pm/BBC One 7.30pm The first semi-final. The second semi-final match is on Wednesday on ITV1 at 7pm or BBC One at 7.30pm.
