KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 16-year-old boy is in the hospital after a shooting late Sunday night in Lenexa. According to the Lenexa Police Department, officers were sent to a shooting at an apartment complex in Lenexa on Buckingham Road, a few blocks west of Oak Park Mall before I-35. Police said when they arrived everyone had left the scene. Download WDAF+ for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV Shortly after, officers found a 16-year-old boy who they say had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital for his injuries and is expected to recover, according to the police department. Officers arrested a possible suspect who is a 19-year-old man. The shooting is under investigation by the Lenexa Police Department with support from the Johnson County Crime Lab. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people are in custody following a standoff that closed part of Interstate 35 in Johnson County, Kansas Thursday night. Ofc. Danny Chavez with the Lenexa Police Department tells FOX4 the incident started as a theft case at the QuikTrip at 95th Street, near I-35. Chavez said the suspects failed to stop for officers and got on I-35. They eventually came to a stop but refused to get out of the car, creating a standoff. The incident closed down northbound I-35, just before 67th Street. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lotto, a member of the Lenexa Police Department's K-9 unit, has sadly died. The police department announced Lotto's passing about a week ago on Facebook. According to police, Lotto experienced a sudden medical event, which led to the K-9's death. The 2-year-old Belgian Malinois served alongside Corporal Tschippert for one year, the police department said. 'In that time, he played a vital role in narcotics detection and suspect apprehension—serving our department and community with exceptional loyalty, energy, and heart,' the Lenexa Police Department said on Facebook. 'His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.' The police department said Lotto had lived with Corporal Tschippert as both a working partner and a beloved companion. 'The bond between a handler and their K9 is powerful, and our department mourns this loss alongside Corporal Tschippert,' the police department said. 'Rest easy, K9 Lotto. Lenexa man pleads guilty in killing of wife, son, during police standoff

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lenexa, Kansas man has pleaded guilty in the . Todd Michael Donovan, 53, pleaded guilty in Johnson County court on Monday to two counts of first-degree murder. He was following the deaths of 52-year-old Sheila and 22-year-old Tyler Donovan. Missouri man sentenced for killing wife in Miami County, Kansas last year He was also was charged and pleaded guilty to one count of cruelty to animals after investigators say he shot and killed his neighbor's dog on the same night. On Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, Lenexa police responded to the report of an 'armed disturbance' in the 7900 block of Hallet. Once they arrived, they heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of the residence. Police said that, as officers arrived at the scene, multiple gunshots were heard coming from the home. Communication with Donovan lasted two hours, before it stopped. He was eventually taken into custody just before 2 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024. Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene, along with two deceased individuals. The two victims were discovered when officers went to take Donovan into custody. The Lenexa Police Department said there was no known history of domestic violence with Donovan and his family.
