Longstanding water woes along Nibong-Tada should have been resolved, says former Kanowit MP

Moggie says he could empathise with the frustration of those in Lawas over their unresolved water woes. – Stock photo KUCHING (June 11): Former Kanowit MP Tan Sri Leo Moggie Irok said residents of a few longhouses located along the Nibong-Tada road in Kanowit had their Gawai Dayak celebration marred by water supply disruptions. Moggie, who is former Tenaga Nasional Berhad chairman and former federal Minister of Energy, Communications and Multimedia, said he could empathise with the frustration of those in Lawas over their unresolved water woes. 'I refer to your ( The Borneo Post ) article titled 'Frustration mounts in Lawas over unresolved water woes' published online on June 11. Similarly, residents of a number of longhouses along the Nibong-Tada road in Kanowit had their Gawai celebration marred by disruption of water supply. 'The issue of unsatisfactory water supply along the Nibong-Tada road was thought to have been resolved, as I had personal exchanges of correspondence with the relevant agencies—including the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development in Putrajaya and the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department—in 2017 and 2018 over the matter,' he told The Borneo Post . He said upgrading works were supposed to have been carried out. 'Yes, I can empathise with the frustration of those in Lawas. As for the residents of the various longhouses along the Nibong-Tada road, they are looking forward to celebrating Gawai next year without any issues of basic facilities,' he said. He said that while Sarawak prepares for a visionary future, its current basic needs must also be properly addressed. The Borneo Post is reaching out to the relevant agencies and ministry for comment over the issue. Gawai Kanowit lead Leo Moggie water woes
