Myles Lewis-Skelly makes 'demanding' Mikel Arteta claim and names two Arsenal leaders
Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a brilliant breakout year at Arsenal last season as he made a total of 43 appearances at the age of just 18 and now looks to be the club's first choice left-back Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly has hailed his "demanding" manager Mikel Arteta as he praised the Spaniard for holding his players to the highest standards possible. The teenage left-back enjoyed a superb breakthrough season at the Emirates last season after being given a chance by Arteta at the age of just 18. Lewis-Skelly has wasted little time making an impact as he went on to make 15 starts in the Premier League and seven in the Champions League. His performances were rewarded with his first ever England cap after new Three Lions boss handed him a debut against Albania, in which he scored his first goal. The youngster has been discussing his rise to prominence in an interview with GQ magazine and pinpointed Arteta for making sure he and other Arsenal stars were always on their "A-game". When asked what the Spaniard was like to work under, he said: "Demanding and in the best way. He holds you to a high standard, and if you don't meet that standard, he's going to let you know about it. "You can't get away with being silly in training; you've got to be on your A-game and apply yourself." Lewis-Skelly said another factor in his quick rise to the first team was his ability to learn quickly and added he was always keen to observe other top players in training. "I'd say that's one of my super strengths," he added. "My ability to take in information quickly and process it has helped the team recognise my skills. "I know where I need to be and what I should expect from another player to do in a situation, and it all comes from practice and watching other great players." One of those players is Declan Rice, who he called a "sensational leader" and also reserved praise for Bukayo Saka because of their "similar journeys" through the academy. "I'll definitely say Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka definitely," he said. "Dec is a sensational leader, someone who knows what to say at the right moment every time. Bukayo had a similar journey to mine, so I've been asking him a lot of questions about how it's been for him and what helped him." Lewis-Skelly has played a total of 43 times for Arsenal so far and looks to be the first choice left-back ahead of Ricardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko for the 2025-26 season. Erling Haaland responds to Myles Lewis-Skelly six months after being 'mocked'
Erling Haaland has issued a response to Myles Lewis-Skelly six months after the Manchester City striker was 'mocked' by the Arsenal defender. Haaland, 25, and Lewis-Skelly, 18, have had beef since the heated 2-2 Premier League draw between Arsenal and City in September 2024. The match between the two title rivals saw Lewis-Skelly make his Arsenal debut with Haaland turning to him and shouting: 'Who the f*** are you?' Lewis-Skelly got revenge over Haaland when Arsenal smashed City 5-1 in February, copying the Norwegian's lotus celebration after scoring a goal. After the clash, Lewis-Skelly shared a 'keep it humble' message on his Instagram – in a collaboration with Adidas – in what was a reference to Haaland previously telling his manager Mikel Arteta to 'stay humble'. Haaland has now finally responded to the English teenager in a new interview, telling TIME: 'They won the game 5-1. So yeah, they got me. 'If he wanted to use that moment to mock me, that's fair enough for him. Whatever he wants to do, he can do.' Quizzed about his now infamous 'stay humble' dig at Arteta in September 2024, Haaland vowed to continue using the phrase. 'I think it's an important phrase, which a lot of people should use, including myself,' Haaland added. 'It's one of the most important things, as individuals, to do.' Since moving to City in the summer of 2022, Haaland has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Community Shield and the Super Cup. Haaland, widely regarded as one of the best strikers on the planet, has scored an incredible tally of 124 goals across 146 games for City. Lewis-Skelly, meanwhile, is considered as one of the best young players in English football. He made his Arsenal debut last year and has played 39 games for the club, having progressed through the Hale End academy. He has not yet landed a trophy in his senior career. Arsenal and City have developed somewhat of a rivalry after fighting each other for the Premier League trophy in recent seasons, although it was Liverpool who were crowned champions of England last term. More Trending Arteta's team finished as Premier League runners-up to City in both 2023 and 2024. In 2025, Arsenal finished second again and City were third. The next time Arsenal face City is on September 21 as the Gunners host Pep Guardiola's side at the Emirates. They are then set to meet again for the reverse fixture at the Etihad on April 18. Myles Lewis-Skelly signs new long-term deal with Arsenal
PA Media/dpa London Myles Lewis-Skelly has signed a new Arsenal contract on the back of a breakthrough campaign last season. Lewis-Skelly, 18, made 39 appearances for the Gunners last term to establish himself as Mikel Arteta's first-choice left-back. He also earned his first three England caps, becoming the youngest England player to score on his debut in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Albania in March. The teenager has now been rewarded with a new deal, which the PA news agency understands runs for five years. Lewis-Skelly's previous deal was due to expire at the end of next term, and there had been speculation that some of Europe's leading clubs were ready to pounce if Arsenal could not agree fresh terms. However, the academy graduate said he was only interested in staying with the Gunners. 'I'm so proud and happy,' he said on the club website. 'I know those words are simple, but I think they sum up how I feel signing for this club. I'm a fan and it's like a dream come true. 'I've embodied the values of Hale End and come through. I've still got a lot of years ahead of me, so if I can keep staying humble and being a good person, that's the most important thing to me. 'I know I've taken a lot of experience from the games about the positive moments, the mistakes that I've made. I'm definitely more ready now for the next season. I just want to keep learning and keep improving. 'I want a legacy. I want to win everything there is to win in the game. I want to win trophies on the biggest stages whilst being a person that's always learning and stays grounded, which is so important.' He is the second Arsenal player to agree to a new contract this summer following defensive colleague Gabriel.

Real Madrid 'contacted Arsenal star' hoping he would leave the Gunners on a free
Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly has committed his long-term future to the club after a stellar breakthrough season after snubbing interest from one of Europe's biggest clubs Real Madrid are said to have sounded out Myles Lewis-Skelly in the hope that the Arsenal star would consider joining them on a free transfer before the teenager put pen to paper on a new contract. The Gunners confirmed on Thursday that Lewis-Skelly, 18, had signed a new long-term deal. But his impressive form during a breakthrough 2024-25 campaign led to some of Europe's elite, including Los Blancos, reach out to discuss the player's availability. And it's now emerged that the Spanish giants were hoping that Lewis-Skelly would run down his contract and join them for free; just like Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Times report that Lewis-Skelly rejected overtures from Real and others in order to commit his future to Arsenal until 2030. Lewis-Skelly's new deal makes him one of the highest paid teenagers in the world and is a reward for the youngster, who established himself as Arsenal's first-choice left-back. The versatile star, who came through the Arsenal academy as a midfielder, was part of the Arsenal team that romped past Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, where they won 5-1 on aggregate. Real recently snared Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool on a free transfer after courting the England star for over a year. But Lewis-Skelly only has eyes for Arsenal and is looking forward to the future after putting pen to paper. Reacting to the news, he said: 'I'm so proud and happy. I know those words are simple, but I think they sum up how I feel signing for this club. I'm a fan and it's like a dream come true. 'I've embodied the values of Hale End [Arsenal's academy] and come through.
