Will Keeley Hawes' 'The Assassin' Get A Second Series After That Twisty Finale?
The Assassin has been one of the summer's newest sleeper hits. Following a quiet-ish release on Amazon's Prime Video, the Keeley Hawes-fronted show quickly gathered critical acclaim, before getting that integral word-of-mouth approval from homes around the UK, sending it to the top of the streaming platform's charts. And now, after racing through six episodes of the twisty series and the rollercoaster finale, fans are wondering whether the show will get a second series. Well, for one thing, the showrunners are keen. The show was created by Harry and Jack Williams (who also created The Tourist and Liar) and in an interview with Esquire they weighed in on whether they'd be up for creating a second series. 'At this moment we don't specifically know what a season 2 would be,' they admitted, before adding: 'That said, Keeley and Freddie [Highmore] are so brilliant together, and such a delight to work with, that we'd absolutely be open to the possibility of more.' The ending of The Assassin also lends itself to another series. Julie (Hawes) rescues her son Edward (Highmore) from the clutches of Gina Gerson's Marie - and the revelation that Julie isn't his real mother, leaves a big question unresolved... who is Edward's real mother? After Marie revealed they used a surrogate, the show ends with Edward, his fiancé and mother travelling to find out. There's also the death of Alan Dale's Aaron to contend with - what part did his son Ezra have to play in it? In their Esquire interview, the show-runner brothers revealed the ending scene (coda) deliberately dangles the possibility of more episodes. 'The coda forefronts one of the big questions left dangling at the end of the series – who is Edward's real mother?' they said. 'How did he end up living with Marie and her beloved arms-dealer husband Jean-Luc (seen in pictures looking disturbingly similar to Edward)? The coda is as much about letting the audience know that mother and son have found a way to be at some kind of peace with one another.' The Assassin is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Close to a year after making his WWE debut at SummerSlam 2024, the 40-year-old country star returned to the spotlight — this time at Bridgestone Arena — to perform his song 'Liar,' which served as the official theme for last year's SummerSlam. Just so we're clear, down here, nobody gives a damn about your podcast, Logan.' As the back-and-forth escalated, WWE legend Randy Orton made a surprise entrance, stepping in to defend Jelly. Orton confronted Paul and appeared ready to settle things in the ring until wrestler Drew McIntyre stormed in and blindsided Orton with a jump kick. McIntyre was quickly escorted out, but the distraction gave Paul an opening, and he removed his vest and began landing punches on the disoriented Orton. Jelly stepped in to stop the attack, grabbing Paul by the hair and shoving him aside. Security then pulled Paul from the ring, but not before destroyed Jelly's music equipment, smashing guitars, pushing over amps, and trashing the drum set. The altercation could be setting the stage for an official showdown between Jelly and Paul at this year's SummerSlam, scheduled for Aug. 2–3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. US President Donald Trump has roasted Democrat Minority Leader Chuck Schumer during a cabinet meeting. The roast was over political attacks from Schumer against the Trump administration about the recent devastating Texas floods. Schumer recently sent a letter demanding an investigation into whether staffing shortages at the NWS stations contributed to the Texas flood catastrophe. Trump, during the cabinet meeting, compared Schumer to the classic 'Saturday Night Live' character 'Tommy Flanagan, the Pathological Liar'. Flanagan, who was played by former Saturday Night Live cast member and acclaimed actor Jon Lovitz, was known for his iconic line 'that's the ticket'. The US president hit out at Schumer for trying to 'blame' the Texas floods on him, before saying that the Democrat minority leader's career is 'limited'.
