Climate Justice: Who Will Pay the Price? Op-ed
By Walid Abbas As the impacts of climate change escalate globally, a crucial question demands attention: Who is responsible, and who should pay the price? Industrialized nations, which have built their modern prosperity on decades of burning coal, oil, and gas, bear the greatest responsibility for accumulated carbon emissions. In contrast, many developing nations — which have contributed very little — are suffering the harshest consequences in the form of drought, desertification, and extreme weather events. This is where the concept of climate justice becomes essential. It calls for wealthier countries to accept historical responsibility — not only by reducing their emissions but also by financially and technologically supporting developing nations as they adapt to climate change and transition to clean energy. COP30 must become a turning point for activating real climate finance mechanisms and ensuring that no community is left behind. This is a global crisis, and no country will be safe unless we act together. read more Analysis- Turkey Has 0 Regional Allies... Why? Analysis: Russia, Turkey... Libya in Return For Syria? The Solutions Exist — So What's Holding Us Back? Op-ed
By Walid Abbas Despite the alarming reality, hope remains. The tools to combat global warming already exist, and successful examples from around the world prove that a sustainable future is both possible and economically viable. Solar and wind energy are now cheaper than fossil fuels in many regions. Cities are adopting electric transportation and green building standards. Sustainable agriculture is cutting emissions while improving food security. Even major corporations are now committing to reduce their carbon footprints. So what's the holdup? The answer often lies in a lack of political will, short-term economic interests, and weak international cooperation. The upcoming COP30 must be more than a stage for speeches and photographs. It must deliver clear commitments, enforceable frameworks, and real climate financing. Time is running out — and our planet can't afford any more delays. read more Analysis- Turkey Has 0 Regional Allies... Why? Analysis: Russia, Turkey... Libya in Return For Syria? Environment at the Heart of the Economy: How the Climate Summit Is Reshaping the Global Financial System
ali abo dashish Environmental issues are no longer separate from economic ones—they now lie at the core of discussions on future development and investment. At COP30, it has become evident that transitioning to a green economy is no longer optional; it is an urgent necessity. One of the key themes this year is financing a just energy transition, especially for developing countries that require massive investments to shift from coal and oil to clean energy sources. Several international banks have announced plans to support green projects, and some countries have pledged to increase their contributions to the Green Climate Fund. However, the real challenge remains in translating these pledges into concrete actions, while ensuring that poor nations do not fall into a trap of 'climate debt.' There is also growing debate about linking global stock exchanges to the climate performance of companies—an idea that could radically reshape the global economy in the coming years. read more Analysis- Turkey Has 0 Regional Allies... UN at 80: Can the General Assembly Still Drive Change?
By Ahmad El-Assasy As the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly prepares to open on September 9, 2025, the world once again looks toward New York, where diplomacy, politics, and international priorities intersect. The General Assembly, one of the UN's six main bodies, offers an equal platform to all 193 member states. During "Leaders' Week" starting September 23, global leaders will deliver speeches outlining their nations' priorities, challenges, and political messages to the world. Key Issues on the Table: War & Peace: Ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Palestine, and across the Sahel region will dominate conversations. Climate Crisis: As scientific warnings escalate, global commitment remains fragile. Sustainable Development: Can the world still meet the 2030 Goals amid economic uncertainty? UN Reform: Calls to restructure the Security Council and update voting systems continue to grow. While often criticized for inefficiency, the UN General Assembly remains a key arena for multilateral diplomacy—offering smaller nations a voice alongside global powers. In its 80th year, the UN faces a critical question: Can it still shape global outcomes—or has it become merely a symbolic stage in an increasingly fragmented world? read more Analysis- Turkey Has 0 Regional Allies... Malaysia's Commitment to Sustainable Palm Oil Boosts Reputation in Egypt's Market
Mohamed Wadie Sustainability and reforestation significantly enhance the global reputation of Malaysian palm oil in the Egyptian market. Malaysia has made strong commitments to sustainable palm oil production, primarily through the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification, which covers over 96% of its palm oil production and aligns with international sustainability standards. This certification addresses key issues like deforestation-free policies, traceability, biodiversity protection, and ethical labor practices, which are critical for gaining trust in global markets including Egypt. Egypt is a major importer of palm oil, with palm oil accounting for about 67% of its edible oil market, valued at $1.3 billion in 2023. Malaysia supplies nearly 27% of Egypt's palm oil imports, making it a key trade partner. The Malaysian government and industry actively promote sustainable palm oil in Egypt through forums and collaboration with Egyptian officials, emphasizing the environmental and economic benefits of certified sustainable palm oil. Reforestation efforts by Malaysian palm oil companies further bolster this positive image. Large-scale projects restore degraded lands, enhance biodiversity, and create wildlife corridors to mitigate habitat fragmentation caused by plantations. These initiatives not only improve ecological resilience but also demonstrate Malaysia's commitment to environmental stewardship, which resonates well with Egyptian stakeholders concerned about sustainability and food security. Moreover, research from Oxford University highlights that sustainable palm oil is crucial for Egypt's food security, as replacing palm oil with less efficient oils would increase deforestation and food costs globally. Malaysia's sustainable palm oil practices thus align with Egypt's strategic interests, reinforcing Malaysia's reputation as a responsible supplier. In summary, Malaysia's sustainability certifications, reforestation projects, and proactive engagement with Egypt contribute positively to Malaysia's palm oil reputation in the Egyptian market. These efforts support environmental goals, food security, and bilateral trade relations, making Malaysian palm oil a preferred and trusted choice in Egypt. read more Analysis- Turkey Has 0 Regional Allies...
