More than 100 Girl Scouts rescued after sudden flash flood strands troop at Pennsylvania cabin
That's one way to earn your Adventure Camper badge! A Girl Scout troop, including more than 100 girls and volunteers, was rescued after unexpected flash flooding left them stranded at a cabin during a day camp retreat in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. 4 Flash flooding in Pennsylvania left a massive group of Girl Scouts stranded in their cabin. KDKA Advertisement More than two-and-a-half inches of rain fell between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Allegheny County, Pa., right as the swarm of girls were getting ready for lunch. Their highly anticipated day of fun in the sun quickly turned sour as the torrential downpour left them trapped after retreating to the Girl Scout Cabin in the park. The group became 'stranded due to an overflowing stream nearby,' Allegheny County police spokesman Jim Madalinsky told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. 4 The rain caused a stream near the scouts' cabin to overflow. KDKA Advertisement Rescue crews quickly arrived at the park to save the scouts. The crews led the young girls to drier land using a rope to help them all trudge through the rushing water as it started to recede. 'They gave us all life jackets and helmets and told us to hold on to the person in front of us and we had a rope and just kind of held on and just walked across,' Girl Scout Lila Hall told CBS News. Advertisement 'We had to stay calm because the younger girls were freaking out too, so I sang some songs, I tried to cheer them up,' another scout, Emilia Krieger, added. 4 Rescue crews used a rope to help lead the scouts across the rushing water. KDKA 4 No injuries were reported, according to Allegheny police. KDKA All of the scouts and volunteers made it to safety and no injuries were reported, Allegheny County police said. The Girl Scouts host different levels for each age group, ranging from the youngest kindergartener Daisies to high school senior Ambassadors. The organization is best known for its annual cookie sale that pits troops against each other for top-ticket grand prizes like a trip to Walt Disney World. The 2025 top seller in NYC, a Bay Ridge scout who sold a staggering 2,528 cookies, bumped the reigning champ from Tribeca off the throne in a battle of the boroughs this year.

Over 100 people rescued after floodwaters strand Girl Scout group in North Park
Over 100 people were rescued after a stream in North Park flooded, stranding a group of Girl Scouts. Rescue crews had to deploy a rope to help about 105 people to safety after flash flooding hit near their cabin, leaving them landlocked. A spokesperson for Allegheny County said the Girl Scouts were put in helmets and vests and moved through the receding waters. Girl Scouts said they were at their pavilion getting ready for lunch when the skies opened up. Things quickly took a turn, but firefighters, police, EMS and swiftwater crews showed up to help. (Photo: KDKA) "Our pavilion is right by the creek and so there was log and there was water everywhere and we looked over and there was water in the parking lot flooding over the road and so we quickly grabbed all of our food and walked up to the cabin and then we just got evacuated from there," said Girl Scout Samatha Oeler. Allegheny County police said everyone was brought to safety and no one was injured. "They gave us all life jackets and helmets and told us to hold on to the person in front of us and we had a rope and just kind of held on and just walked across," Girl Scout Lila Hall said. Once they made it through the floodwaters, the Girl Scouts were picked up by their parents and headed home to get dry.
