Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 cross 200 million rides
Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 have recorded over 200 million passenger journeys in over three years since operations began in April 2022. The milestone was reached this month after a steady increase in ridership. The network crossed 10 million rides by January 2023, hit 100 million by May 2024, and reached 150 million by January 2025. On July 8, the Metro carried more than 3,00,000 commuters in a single day for the first time.
'This upward trend reflects growing acceptance of the Metro as a preferred mode of transport in Mumbai's western suburbs,' MMRDA said in a release.
Metro Lines 2A (Dahisar East-DN Nagar) and 7 (Dahisar East-Gundavali) were introduced to provide reliable connectivity between the northern suburbs and key locations along the Western Express Highway and Link Road. Officials said the system is witnessing consistent monthly growth in ridership between 4 to 5 percent.
A senior MMRDA official said the network is helping improve public transport access across key suburban areas. 'The rising ridership shows that citizens are choosing the Metro for its speed and predictability. The network's expansion will further strengthen this trend.'
MMMOCL's operational teams are now focusing on improving service frequency, integrating digital ticketing, and enhancing last-mile connectivity. The goal is to make the system more accessible and responsive to commuter needs, the release said.
