Florian Wirtz alternative lined up as Prem star called ahead of Liverpool move

Florian Wirtz is on the verge of joining Liverpool for a English transfer-record fee of £116.5m and his club Bayer Leverkusen will have significant funds to replace the playmaker Bayer Leverkusen are targeting a move for Bournemouth star Justin Kluivert as a potential replacement for Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz, according to reports. Liverpool have finally struck a £116.5million deal for Leverkusen's star playmaker after lengthy negotiations that saw three bids rejected, giving the Bundesliga a huge payday in what is a Premier League record buy. ‌ Leverkusen, who have just appointed ex- Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, will now be looking to redistribute some of that money into transfers and they should be able to make a few quality signings. ‌ One of those signings could be Kluivert, who has been identified by Ten Hag as "the perfect profile" to step in for Wirtz in the attacking midfield role, as reported by talkSport. According to the outlet, the German side have called Bournemouth to enquire about the player. Kluivert, the son of legendary Patrick, was one of the key figures behind Bournemouth's impressive season under Andoni Iraola as they finished ninth in the Premier League. The 26-year-old managed 12 goals and six assists in the top flight and now has a series of teams monitoring his situation. The report claims Bournemouth are not willing to sell Kluivert due to his importance to the team, having already lost key centre-back Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and with Milos Kerkez on his way to Liverpool. It goes on to say, however, that chief Bill Foley won't stand in any player's way if they receive an offer at the right price. ‌ Antoine Semenyo is another Bournemouth player generating interest, having been linked with a move to Tottenham. Kluivert cost around £9.6m when he joined Bournemouth from Roma in 2023, a huge bargain at the time, and he could now cost more than double that amount. He has played 75 times in the last two seasons, scoring 22. Should he arrive at Leverkusen, he will have a tough task of replacing Wirtz, a man who seemingly has the world at his feet after scoring 16 goals for the German club last season, assisting another 13. Wirtz has picked Liverpool over German rivals Bayern Munich and is set to become the latest player to arrive at Anfield this summer alongside Jeremie Frimpong, while Kerkez is expected to sign soon.

Bayer Leverkusen make crucial transfer decision amid Jack Grealish interest

Bayer Leverkusen have rethought their stance on Manchester City's James McAtee as they hunt for a replacement for Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz, as per a new report. Wirtz is nearing the completion of a sensational move to Anfield as negotiations progress to an advanced stage between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, who have received an improved £113 million offer for the 22-year-old after turning down an opening bid from Merseyside. Advertisement Liverpool are understood to have agreed personal terms with Wirtz that will see the Germany international sign a long-term contract with the Premier League champions, who won the league title in Arne Slot's debut campaign in England last term. Leverkusen are poised to cashing in on Wirtz and are actively searching for a suitable replacement for the attacking midfielder, with a long-standing interest in Manchester City star and England U-21 international James McAtee. McAtee's Manchester City future was put in further doubt as the 22-year-old has chosen to captain his National Team at the U-21 European Championship and turned down a chance to represent his boyhood club at the FIFA Club World Cup. Advertisement The Salford-born star struggled for regular game time last season and despite a much greater look into the first-team after March, there is little evidence to suggest McAtee will realise his true potential under Pep Guardiola. With 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, McAtee wants a permanent transfer to start fresh and progress his career and Manchester City will be looking for a market fee for another product of their academy. Bayer Leverkusen have held a long-standing interest in McAtee and it is understood that the German outfit have held direct talks with Manchester City over the attacking midfielder, who is very attracted by the prospect of moving to Germany for next season. However, Bild are reporting that Leverkusen have withdrawn their interest in McAtee and are focusing on alternative targets as they prepare for life without Florian Wirtz and look to spend the incoming transfer fee for their best player, as relayed by Get Football News Germany. Advertisement Manchester City's €20 million valuation has put off Leverkusen, who are exited the race to sign McAtee, who has also attracted interest from Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. It is worth noting that City are likely to prefer to sell McAtee to a foreign club. Cole Palmer joined Chelsea for £40 million in 2023 and has turned himself into one of the best forwards in Europe after two outstanding seasons in west London. City have frequently sold academy and bit-part players to their direct Premier League rivals and it has come back to bite them. Jack Grealish has also recently been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen and incoming manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have conveyed his desire of signing the 29-year-old England international to replace Wirtz, with Manchester City set to demand £50 million for their record signing this summer.

Manchester City's Jack Grealish hands Liverpool major boost in Florian Wirtz talks

Bayer Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly told club bosses he would love to sign Jack Grealish from Manchester City to replace Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz. Wirtz has given the go-ahead to complete a sensational move to Anfield this summer as Liverpool remain in advanced negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen to work out details of an agreement that is likely to cost in excess of €130 million. Advertisement The 22-year-old has been one of the most sought-after players in Europe this summer, with the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich also holding a strong interest but eventually accepting defeat in their pursuit. City had identified Wirtz as their preferred replacement for the outgoing Kevin De Bruyne, who has reportedly agreed a two-year move to Napoli after being told by officials at the Etihad Stadium that he does not feature in their plans for the 2025/26 campaign. However, the Germany international has decided to move to Anfield and join forces with Arne Slot on Merseyside after a Premier League winning campaign for the Reds, who have also signed Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to new two-year deals. Advertisement As for Bayer Leverkusen, they are resigned to losing Wirtz this summer as talks continue with Liverpool, which will leave a significant gap in the club's attacking positions but almost certainly be addressed when the transfer window reopens in mid-July. Now, according to a new report from The Sun, newly-appointed Bayer Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag is a huge fan of Manchester City's Jack Grealish and has told club bosses he would love to bring the 29-year-old in to replace Florian Wirtz. City are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of £40-50 million for Grealish this summer and while a loan could also materialise, a permanent transfer is what the England international and the club would collectively prefer. Sources close to Grealish have revealed City's record signing is attracted by the prospect of playing abroad as he looks to revitalise his club and international career(s) ahead of what will be a crucial 2025/26 campaign by all accounts. Advertisement With Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa also credited with an interest, Grealish knows he needs to be playing regularly for his club to be in contention for a recall to the England squad under Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel has made it clear that Grealish stands no chance to securing a seat on the plane to the 2026 FIFA World Cup if he will not play week-in, week-out for his club in the new season and that means the forward has a huge few months ahead to map out the next chapter. Grealish is understood to be preferring to stay in England and play in the UEFA Champions League as representatives work actively to find him a new club, but it remains to be seen whether a top Premier League side will look to place a bet on the Manchester City man.

Kerkez to Liverpool transfer takes huge step with fee agreed and medical booked

Liverpool are chasing Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and the potential £45million transfer has taken a step forward with the news that the Cherries have identified a replacement Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign Stade Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert. The Cherries have been hot in pursuit of the 23-year-old, who they view as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Milos Kerkez, over the past 10 days. Andoni Iraola's side have now struck an agreement with their French counterparts worth in the region of £14.4million, inclusive of add-ons. Truffert had just one year left to run on his contract in Ligue 1 and had told Rennes that he was keen to pursue a new challenge. ‌ He has already verbally agreed a long-term contract with Bournemouth and has now received the green light to undergo medical checks. Nottingham Forest and Marseille had also shown an interest in Truffert. ‌ Truffert's move to Bournemouth will only go ahead if Kerkez is sold to Liverpool, as expected. The Cherries are holding out for around £45m for the Hungary international, who enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 season. The 21-year-old, who is under contract with Bournemouth until June 2028, started all 38 Premier League matches for the club, chipping in with two goals and six assists. He is keen to join Liverpool, who have identified him as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, and left the Hungary squad last week citing 'personal reasons'. Negotiations between the two clubs were slightly complicated by Cherries technical director Simon Francis spending time in the United States last week representing Bournemouth in The Soccer Tournament. He has been leading talks with former Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who used to work at Bournemouth. Mirror Football understands that second-choice left-back Kostas Tsimikas is likely to leave the Reds this summer, with interest from the Premier League and abroad. Robertson, meanwhile, has previously suggested he is keen to sign a new contract with Liverpool and has insisted he is ready to fight for his place in the side. HAVE YOUR SAY! Is Milos Kerkez a good signing for Liverpool? Comment below. ‌ "We're not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done," Robertson told BBC Scotland. "But, until that is done, I've not even given that a second thought. I back myself, I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward. "I've had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies, being a mainstay in the team, which I'm incredibly proud of. I'm not getting any younger, I can't change my age, but I still believe I've got a lot to give and that's what I focus on. "I focus on myself - you can't focus on other people or who you're competing with. I still believe I have a hell of a lot to give for however many years I can keep going. My body feels good at the minute.'
