Sweet Caroline voted Britain's favourite singalong track

Neil Diamond's iconic Sweet Caroline has been voted Britain's favourite song to belt out with friends, family and even complete strangers, according to new research. The famous 1969 track picked up an overwhelming 41% of the vote according to the poll of 2,000 music-loving Brits, with ABBA's Dancing Queen (28%) and Robbie Williams' Angels (25%) placing second and third. Also on the list of the nation's favourite singalong tracks was Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi (24%), I'm Still Standing by Elton John (24%), Someone Like You by Adele (21%) and Wonderwall by Oasis (19%). One in six (17%) say nothing beats belting out Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners, while 16% love to sing-along to Mr. Brightside by The Killers. Other tunes to make our hearts sing include Umbrella by Rihanna (13%), Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon (12%) and Shake It Off by Taylor Swift (11%). In fact, the research by menthol lozenge brand, Jakemans, found that as a nation we love singing so much that 80 per cent think it has a positive impact on their well-being, with 45 per cent admitting that music moves them deeply and 38 per cent saying that it can give them goosebumps. In the shower (45%), cooking in the kitchen (36%), on your commute or in the car (35%), while listening to the radio (33%) and watching TV at home (28%) are the main places that Brits let their singing voices loose, while one in five (16%) can often be found belting out a tune at work. Four in ten (37%) think they have a good singing voice, with almost half (48%) admitting that they listen to singers and think they could do a much better job. A confident sixth (17%) even go so far as to say they could have made it as a pop singer. And according to the study, six in ten (57%) say there's nothing better than showing off their singing skills by coming together as a group to sing, with one in four (25%) saying it uplifts them. 22% feel empowered singing as one, while 18 per cent love the camaraderie. Jakemans spokesperson and celebrity vocal coach, Annabel Williams, said: 'A great sing-along song has that magic mix of a catchy melody and feel-good lyrics that you just can't help but belt out. But it's more than that, singing together actually releases feel-good hormones like oxytocin and endorphins, which boost happiness and bring people closer together. That's why we can feel so marvellous after singing the classics like Sweet Caroline and Don't Stop Believin' with a group.' As a result, this summer 26% are planning to belt out a tune on a family holiday, 21% will be singing along at a concert, 18% will put their singing voice to good use at a sporting event and 18% will be testing their vocal cords at music festivals. Despite planning to flex our vocal cords, two thirds (65%) admit they aren't planning to prepare their throats for action as it isn't something they've thought about (23%), and they believe their voice will recover naturally (23%). It's no surprise then that half (50%) have suffered from a sore throat after singing, with 60% having to stop singing altogether due to a strained throat. Williams added: 'Making sure that you're looking after your voice whilst singing is really important, so you don't do any damage to your vocal cords. Whether you're warming up for a stage performance or belting out your favourite tunes at home, you need to be giving those vocal cords some TLC.' Jakemans' Elizabeth Hughes-Gapper, Brand Manager said: 'This research shows how much we as a nation love singing out loud, and the positive impact that it has on our well-being. Whether, like me, you're part of the 36% who love belting out tunes in the kitchen, or hoping to sing along to your favourite artists at a concert this summer, don't let anything hold back your voice.' Simon Cowell sends young guitarist through to Britain's Got Talent final

Cowell reached for the buzzer after Pearson performed a medley of songs including AC/DC's Thunderstruck, Guns And Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine and Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer, with the guitarist saying being sent to the final of the ITV show was the 'coolest thing in my life'. Speaking after sending Pearson through on Saturday's live semi-final, Cowell said: 'He was bloody brilliant, seriously, and he's so small and talented, and carries magic. 'I probably went a little bit early, but I was so excited, and it was just so brilliant. You're so talented, really.' It comes after Pearson previously received the gold buzzer from Amanda Holden during the audition stage. The golden buzzer is being used at the semi-final stage for the first time in the show's history, with each judge being given the opportunity to send an act directly to the final. The public vote saw singer Stacey Leadbeatter join the rocker in the final. Leadbeatter sang Anyone by Demi Lovato, with judge Holden remarking: 'I thought you nailed that, I just don't know where you find the courage. 'I love your whole story, your little girl, your mum, they were so proud of you that day (of her audition). 'I'm sure they are again tonight, because that audition was another level, and you look gorgeous.' After being sent through, Leadbeatter said: 'I can't even explain it, thank you so much, thank you. 'Oh my god, thank you so much for believing in me, it means everything to me, this is my dream.' We need your consent to load this Social Media content. After the performance, Cowell said: 'I really liked your first audition, and I was a bit concerned, could it get a bit boring the second time? 'Well, I'll tell you, it didn't, because I think this was better than your first audition.' Magician Alexandra Burgio shocked the judges as she performed a routine which saw her take a picture of the judges, before duct taping co-presenter Ant McPartlin's mouth and put a mask on his presenting partner Declan Donnelly. The contestant, who says she wants to be the 'Rihanna of magic', then got McPartlin to pick a playing card, with the same card then appearing in the picture she took of the judges at the start. Judge Alesha Dixon said of the performance: 'The way you move seductively around the stage is enticing and, sorry, hypnotising. 'The way you use the audience and everyone, and you bring us all on this journey with you is incredible. 'You're such a star, genuine magic.' We need your consent to load this Social Media content. Please review your details and accept them to load the content Impressionist Will Burns impressed the judges with a routine that saw him impersonate the likes of Love Island presenter Iain Stirling, Paddy McGuinness and comedian Billy Connolly. Speaking about the performance, Cowell said: 'That was seriously, seriously good, and you're going to do well, the audience at home are going to absolutely, and in here, love you.' Elsewhere, singer John Pierce performed an operatic version of the Rolling Stones' Wild Horses, dancing magician Jannick Holste performed a routine to Dixon's song The Boy Does Nothing, and Japanese all-male cheerleading troop, Cheer Re-Mans performed. Britain's Got Talent's 18th season began earlier this year, with the show seeing a number of different styles of performers compete for a chance to star in the Royal Variety Performance and win a cash prize. Previous winners have included singer Susan Boyle, dance act Diversity and dog act Ashleigh And Pudsey. The show will return to ITV and ITVX next Saturday at 7pm.

80s rock icon celebrates 36th wedding anniversary after cheating confession

Jon Bon Jovi has celebrated his 36th wedding anniversary with his wife Dorothea Bongiovi after he made a blunt cheating confession last year. The Livin' On A Prayer hitmaker, 63, posted their celebrations on social media in the form of 36 roses for 36 'amazing years'. He also shared a throwback photo of the pair looking young and in love alongside a picture of their wedding venue, Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, where they tied the knot in 1989. Jon and Dorothea met in high school and married nine years later. While they briefly broke up in 1985, in which time the rocker dated actor Diane Lane, they quickly found each other again. While their relationship is long-lasting, the It's My Life hitmaker admitted in an interview last year that he 'got away with murder' in his younger years when he was 'no saint'. The musician made the frank comments while speaking on the ABC special, Michael Strahan x Jon Bon Jovi: Halfway There. Reflecting on Jon's stratospheric success, host Michael, 52, remarked: 'It had to be tough on a relationship. You're young…' 'That's nonsense,' Jon interjected. 'I got away with murder.' He continued: 'I'm a rock and roll star. I'm not a saint. I'm not saying that there weren't 100 girls in my life. I'm Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good. 'But if you think I'm ever going to jeopardise anything for believing the narcissist in me was real? What a stupid thing to do. 'What kind of excess does a man need that's going to fuel that fire? It's just not worth it.' In April 2020, Bon Jovi told People their secret to a long-lasting partnership was 'mutual respect'. 'Having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hang out,' he said. In 2010 he reflected on the moment they decided to marry in an interview with Men's Health. 'We had the No. 1 album, the No. 1 single, and we were playing three nights at the Forum in L.A.,' he told the publication. 'I turned to Dorothea and said, 'I got an idea. Why don't we go right now?' She said, 'You're out of your mind.' I said, 'Come on. What's better than this, right now, this moment?' And so we ran off to Las Vegas. Didn't tell a soul.' The pair went on to welcome four children together – Stephanie, 31, Jesse, 30, Romeo, 21, and Millie Bobby Brown's new husband Jake, 22. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Jon previously spoke to The Independent about the 'wonderful clichés of rock stardom'. Elaborating, he continued: 'It's about never lying about having been a saint, but not being a fool enough to [mess up] the home life, either.' In November, Jon was asked to elaborate on his previous comments in a podcast episode of Just for Variety with Variety journalist Marc Malkin. 'You're honest about being a rockstar, that you've got a lot of women in your life. Girls, as you call them,' said Marc, asking: 'Were your family surprised at how honest you were? Did your wife know you were going to be that honest?' After a pause, Jon answered: 'It was based on an old article many years ago, it would be a lie if you said you were a saint. It was the 80s for god's sake. I'm still that guy. Did a girl ever throw herself at me? F**k yes, I'm Jon Bon Jovi. 'But did I ever, ever, ever consider anything that would jeopardise my relationship with my wife who I've always been madly in love with? F**k no. But she would tell, me, 'Of course you were a moron.'' He continued: 'Yesterday was our 35th wedding anniversary. We're madly in love more every day, I'm ecstatic being in love with her. 'So we've been together 44 years. I wouldn't jeopardise a lick of that. I'm the luckiest guy in the universe.' More Trending Mark pressed: 'The stories that are getting picked up are making it sound like you cheated on her left and right?' 'Even if I did I was 20, I was 30, this wasn't yesterday,' Jon replied, adding: 'It was a decade or so in my youth.' When asked what he got Dorothea for their 35th anniversary, Jon revealed with a chuckle he'd got her flowers and a book it turned out 'she's already read'. The rocker added: 'We don't have to outdo things with presents and stuff because every day there's such deep gratitude. Watching TV together, sitting on the couch and making a cup of tea, she knows how grateful I am.' Got a story? Jon Bon Jovi celebrates 36 years of marriage with wife Dorothea one year after his cheating confession

Jon Bon Jovi celebrated his 36th wedding anniversary with wife Dorothea Hurley by uploading a sweet tribute to his Instagram page on Tuesday. The Livin' On A Prayer hitmaker, 63, also shared a throwback snap of the couple in the post - one year after the singer admitted he 'hasn't been a saint' during his relationship with Hurley, 62. The pair tied the knot in 1989 at the Graceland Wedding Chapel located in Las Vegas - and are also parents to four children: Stephanie, 31, Jesse, 30, Jake, 22 and Romeo, 21. In one image, the performer shared a picture of 36 red roses that were in a glass vase on top of a table. Jon could also be seen cozying up to his high school sweetheart in a throwback photo as they posed outdoors. He sported a blue suit and flashed a cheerful smile as Dorothea wore a strapless, white dress which was paired with white gloves. Lastly, the rock singer shared a photo of a sign at the chapel the lovebirds said 'I do' at. It reads: 'Graceland Wedding Chapel. The original world famous home of ceremonies with the 'King." Rock star Jon Bon Jovi was married here.' In the caption, he penned to his 2.4 million followers: '36 roses for 36 amazing years Happy anniversary my love….' Last year during an interview with People, the star reflected on tying the knot with Dorothea and revealed that the marriage had 'shocked everybody.' He recalled, 'We were in Los Angeles, California, the band was on the road on the New Jersey tour, and if you opened up the curtains of my hotel room, there's a big billboard of the five of us [Bon Jovi band members] staring into my window. 'My girlfriend, who was my fiancée at the time, we had a night off, and I said, "I need a higher high - I got an idea. Let's go to Vegas now." And she said, "Now?" I said, "Now."' Jon and Dorothea went to Las Vegas and the taxi driver had been their witness during the lowkey ceremony. When it was revealed that the pair had married, the singer said 'it shocked a lot of people - shocked about everybody: the band, management, agents, lawyers, parents, you name it. In one image, the performer shared a picture of 36 red roses that were in a glass vase on top of a table 'It's a shame because it should have been a beautiful moment, but after we did it, people were trying to take it away until I stood up and went, "Wait a minute, why are we living our life for anyone else?" And 35 years later, we're still married.' Also last year, Jon admitted that he 'has not been a saint' amid his marriage while talking to The Independent. 'These are all the wonderful clichés of rock stardom. It's about never lying about having been a saint, but not being a fool enough to [mess] up the home life, either,' he told the outlet. In regards to their long-lasting relationship, he explained it was due to a 'mutual admiration society, and being lucky enough to have grown up together.' On his 1993 track titled Bed Of Roses, the singer had belted out lyrics about regretting past dalliances. He also seemingly hinted that he had been with 100 women during the ABC special Michael Strahan x Jon Bon Jovi: Halfway There. At one point, Strahan said that the singer's stardom which began at a young age could have been 'tough on a relationship.' Jon said, 'I got away with murder. I'm a rock and roll star. I'm not a saint. I'm not saying that there weren't 100 girls in my life. I'm Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good!' He added, 'But if you think I'm ever going to jeopardize my anything for believing the narcissist in me was real? 'What a stupid thing to do. What kind of excesses does a man need that's going to fuel that fire? It's just not worth it.' After his interview with The Independent, the singer was spotted at the screening of his documentary series Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story - but his wife was not in attendance. However, the real reason that she did not make an appearance at the event was soon revealed. A source explained to Page Six at the time that she had COVID but was 'feeling well and recovered.' Jon and Dorothea first crossed paths in 1980 when they were students at Sayreville War Memorial High School in New Jersey. The performer previously told People that he had been 'immediately drawn' to Hurley when he first saw her. 'And that's never changed - 40 years ago.' He added, 'Having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hang out.' The star also revealed that he would let Dorothea 'cheat' off his work in one of their history classes. Dorothea joined in on the conversation and said, 'I always said I was good at spotting potential too. I have a gift. He's cute. I'm shallow. I'll admit it!' The singer added, 'We enjoy each other and we never fell for the trappings of what celebrity can do. 'We've witnessed that happen over the years to people that were close to us and people that we knew from afar. It's just what I do, it's not who I am. I write songs. I happen to be very good at performing them. That's it.' His second youngest son, Jake, is notably married to Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown. They tied the knot in a private ceremony last year and the rock singer was one of the guests.
