Taylor Swift reveals what's next for 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' after taking back masters

Taylor Swift has revealed the status of her final two re-recorded albums after announcing that she now owns her entire music catalog. In a letter shared to her official website on Friday, the singer announced that she had bought back all of the master recordings for her first six albums from Shamrock Capital "with no strings attached," thanks to support for her re-recordings, as well as the success of her global Eras Tour. Swift has been re-recording the albums from her former label, Big Machine Label Group, in order to take ownership of the records that made her a household name. In 2021, she released "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)," and in 2023, she released "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version." The last two albums she had left to re-record were "Reputation" and her self-titled debut album. In her letter on Friday, Swift opened up about "Reputation (Taylor's Version)," writing, "Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it." "The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it," she wrote. "All that defiance, that longing to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief. To be perfectly honest, it's the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn't be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off." Swift then assured her fans that if they are open to the idea, there will be a time "for the unreleased vault tracks from that album to hatch." As for the re-recorded version of her debut album, Swift said that she has "already re-recorded" it in its entirety, writing, "I really love how it sounds now." "Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about," she wrote. "But if it happens, it won't be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now." Swift's debut album, "Taylor Swift," was released in 2006 and features the hit songs "Teardrops On My Guitar," "Tim McGraw," "Picture to Burn" and "Our Song." Swift released "Reputation" on Nov. 10, 2017. It was her sixth studio album and was nominated for best pop vocal album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019. Prior to its release, Swift teased the album in an August 2017 Instagram post, writing, "There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation." Songs featured on the album include "Look What You Made Me Do," "...Ready For It," "Don't Blame Me" and "Delicate." Fans got a taste of "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" in 2023 with the release of the official teaser trailer for the Prime Video thriller series " Wilderness," which featured a version of Swift's song "Look What You Made Me Do." Prime Video confirmed in a press release at the time that the track was titled "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)." Recently, "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)" was also featured in an episode of "The Handmaid's Tale" for the show's final season. In March 2023, Swift embarked on her historic Eras Tour. The tour grossed more than $2 billion in ticket sales and brought in more than 10 million in attendance, according to Taylor Swift Touring. It also spawned the massively successful concert film "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour." The documentary earned more than $261 million at the worldwide box office, according to The Numbers, making it the highest-grossing concert film of all time, per Guinness World Records, and even earning a Golden Globe nomination for cinematic and box office achievement.

The Surprising Reason Taylor Swift Didn't Announce 'Reputation (Taylor's Version)' at the AMAs

Many Taylor Swift fans were convinced that last night's American Music Awards would end with a major announcement: the release date for Reputation (Taylor's Version). Their theory? A subtle Easter egg on Swift's website, where the shop categories—Apparel, Music, Accessories, Sale—appeared to spell out 'AMAS.' But the night came and went without a word from Swift—and there's a clear reason why. Swift didn't win any of the six awards she was nominated for, leaving her without a chance to make an acceptance speech—and with it, no moment to share an album announcement. In fact, she skipped the Las Vegas ceremony entirely and remained silent on social media throughout the event. Swift did drop a subtle Reputation tease in March at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she accepted the Tour of the Century award via a virtual speech. Eagle-eyed fans noticed she was wearing a snake necklace—a clear nod to the Reputation era's aesthetic. She wore an even more dramatic version of the same accessory in the 'Look What You Made Me Do' music video, the lead single from the original album. The singer has been enjoying a break from the spotlight following the end of her Eras Tour. This weekend, she was spotted far from Vegas in West Palm Beach, Florida, enjoying a dinner date with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Last week, Swift gave a big hint that Reputation (Taylor's Version) is coming when she allowed The Handmaid's Tale use a snippet of 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)' in one of its final episodes. The star hasn't revealed when exactly she'll begin promoting her music. WNBA player Caitlin Clark, who knows both Swift and Kelce, recently shared rare insight into their whereabouts, telling an interviewer that they're 'in vacation mode right now. So I hope they enjoy a nice little break out of the spotlight.'

Did Taylor Swift Make a Cameo in The Handmaid's Tale Finale? Showrunner's Cryptic Reply Sparks Buzz

Fans of The Handmaid's Tale are buzzing with one question: Did Taylor Swift make a surprise appearance in the final season? The speculation started after Episode 9 featured Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version). Swifties quickly spotted a character shown only from behind in the same scene and started guessing it could be the singer herself. The way the character walked and the deliberate camera angle fueled the theory. Some viewers believe the use of Taylor's re-recorded track and the mystery figure are not a coincidence. When asked about the possibility of Taylor Swift appearing in the episode, showrunner Bruce Miller gave a carefully worded response. 'I can't say anything. I'm not allowed to say anything,' he told Variety. The interviewer stated that this only adds fuel to the fire, to which Miller replied, 'All right, I'm good at making things worse - that's how I make all of my money.' While this doesn't confirm anything, the lack of denial and the teasing tone have left fans convinced that there may be more to the story. Aside from the Swift cameo speculation, Bruce Miller shared how The Handmaid's Tale finale was always planned. 'Well, if you go back and watch the pilot, at the beginning of the pilot, you can hear her click that tape recorder that she clicks at the end of the series to start recording 'The Handmaid's Tale' in the audio - and we didn't go back and put that in, that was there,' he said. The final scene shows June (Elisabeth Moss) beginning to record her story in the Waterfords' destroyed home, tying back to her first voiceover monologue as Offred. Although The Handmaid's Tale has ended, the world of Gilead will continue in Hulu's upcoming adaptation of The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood's 2019 sequel. Bruce Miller is leading the new series and working closely with Elisabeth Moss, who will return as a producer. Miller confirmed that June's story ends with The Handmaid's Tale, but The Testaments will explore what happens after.

Here's Why Taylor Swift Fans Were Theorizing That She Had A Secret Cameo In 'The Handmaid's Tale'

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift fans were left delighted when the star debuted her version of 'Look What You Made Me Do' during the penultimate episode of The Handmaid's Tale, with many hoping that this meant her re-recorded Reputation album isn't too far off. In case you missed it, Taylor's iconic song featured in the episode's opening sequence, where the main character, June, and her fellow handmaids put their plan to destroy Gilead into action. The scene saw members of the Mayday rebellion climb out of trucks as the handmaids made their way to be driven to safety, and some Swiftie viewers thought there was something suspicious about the final Mayday operative to walk away. Dressed in all black, this person's face is never seen as they have their back to the camera for the entirety of their short appearance in the shot. But the fact that they are taller than the other characters, coupled with their distinctive walk, got tongues wagging that this was a secret cameo from Taylor herself. Commenting on a TikTok about the song being used in the show, one person confidently wrote: 'Last person out of the truck that goes to the left was 100% Taylor Swift.' They added in this video's caption: 'There is good reason why we clown…. Oh yes, she did. 🐍' TikTok @andreaness / Hulu / Via The TikTok went pretty viral, with thousands of people commenting to give their two cents. One insisted: 'There are two celebrity walks I can identify with certainty. Ellen Pompeo, and Taylor Swift. That. Is Taylor. No doubt.' 'It's the one arm swing for me,' another agreed, while one more alluded to Taylor's renowned love of leaving Easter Eggs and clues for her fans by writing: 'Someone do a full evaluation of the credits and see what fake name she used. That is the Easter egg we need.' TikTok @andreaness / Hulu / Via Fans became even more convinced of the theory once they realized that Taylor was actually in Toronto for her Eras tour between Nov. 14 and 23, 2024, which is around the same time that The Handmaid's Tale filmed its final two episodes. In addition, Handmaid's stars Bradley Whitford and Elisabeth attended one of these shows. View this photo on Instagram Unfortunately, despite all of the evidence seemingly aligning, Elisabeth shot down the speculation when asked about it by TV Line. In fact, the actor was notably stunned when the publication asked her if Taylor had been in the scene, saying: 'No, wait. What do you mean? I literally don't know about this.' After the theory was explained to her, the star said: 'That's amazing! Of course it's not. Of course it's not her. Oh my God, that's hilarious. I love that idea, though.' 'This is why, one of the reasons we were so excited about this moment, just the fan engagement on Handmaid's is so intense, and then marrying that with the Swifties is like, Jesus Christ. It's so fun!' Elisabeth went on. 'So no, I'm afraid that's not Taylor. She's pretty busy. I feel like if she was going to come do our show, we would've made sure we saw her face.'
