Are Steamed Momos Healthier Than Fried Ones? Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar Reveals
Momos are a beloved snack across India. Whether enjoyed at your favourite street stall or lovingly prepared by your mom at home, momos have a magical way of making everything better. However, the debate between steamed and fried momos often comes up in foodie circles, leaving many scratching their heads, wondering which option is the healthier choice. Now, nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar has set the record straight once and for all. In a recent interview, Rujuta was asked to identify the healthier momo option among the many varieties available in the market. She responded, "All momos are equally bad unless you are trekking in Spiti or Kinnaur and someone at a homestay has offered you homemade momos. Those are culturally authentic momos. Here, in the cities, momos are merely street food." With her trademark humour, Rujuta added, "If someone is paying for your plate, only then is that momo good." She further advised that if you can't resist momos, it's best to limit your indulgence to once a week. She was also asked to pick the healthier option between soya chaap and momos. The celebrity nutritionist quipped, "It's the same thing. Both are equally bad - unless someone else is paying for it." This isn't the first time Rujuta Diwekar has spoken in favour of authentic momos. In one of her books, she shared how she once allowed actress Kareena Kapoor to eat momos. In her book 'Don't Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight', Rujuta wrote,"Kareena ate momos in Ladakh and they helped her lose weight because Ladakh is dry, windy, cold, and at an altitude of 3,500 metres. If she ate the same momos in aamchi Mumbai, which is humid, hot, and at sea level, she would have gained weight." She even quoted Kareena in the book. An excerpt reads: "When I [Kareena] was shooting in Ladakh, breakfast was fresh fruit and pudina chai without milk. In Ladakh, I also ate momos and thukpa (on the last day of the shoot, I was even allowed a pizza!)."

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar says Kareena Kapoor has been on the same diet since 2007: ‘Hafte ke 4-5 din woh khichdi aur…'; how it affects the body
Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, who has had a long-standing association with Kareena Kapoor Khan, elaborated on her diet in a recent interview. 'In 2007, we worked together. From then till today, she eats the same things,' Diwekar recalled, adding that it was because of the Tashan actor that her first book, Don't Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight (2009), was published. Sharing details, Diwekar said that Kareena begins her mornings with a few 'almonds, raisins, or figs'. 'For breakfast, she has paratha or poha. If she is shooting, then lunch is dal chawal because rice is much easier. Ghar par hogi toh roti sabzi (If she is at home, she eats roti and sabzi). In the evening, she eats cheese toast or mango milkshake, or mango if in season. Even at night, it is the same…khichdi, pulao. Hafte ke 4-5 din, woh khichdi aur ghee hi khaati hai. Yehi khaati hai. (She eats lentil, rice, and ghee for almost 4-5 days),' Diwekar told The Lallantop. Taking a cue from her revelation, let's explore how eating dal chawal for almost 4-5 days a week helps the body. Clinical dietitian Garima Goyal said dal chawal and ghee is a wholesome and straightforward food combination. 'Dal chawal topped with ghee is one of the healthy comfort foods we know,' said Goyal. Protein density of dal and carbohydrate content of rice pack this meal with the richness of all the macro as well as micronutrients. The amino acids lacking in rice are well complemented by dal. 'Rice, being a gluten-free grain, makes this meal gut-friendly too,' said Goyal. She noted that the meal is a good option for 'muscle growth and body building as it gives a boost to the body's metabolism'. 'In particular, cereals are rich in the amino acid methionine but low in lysine, whereas pulses are rich in iron, lysine, vitamin B, and calcium. When sprouted, they are a good source of vitamin C, too. The pairing of rice with lentils creates balanced meals, with all the essential amino acids. They mutually supplement each other,' Goyal shared. What to note? Goyal suggested tempering with hing or asafoetida and cumin seeds for making it more effective and lighter for the stomach. 'These ingredients trigger various enzymes and digestive juices in your body that aid digestion. Additionally, because these ingredients are high in fibre, they also prevent intestinal gas,' said Goyal. Kareena Kapoor Khan's diet has been the same since 2007, her dietician Rujuta Diwekar lists what the actress eats in her day: 'Khichdi with ghee or pulao for dinner'
Kareena Kapoor Khan 's unwavering approach to food has stood the test of nearly two decades — and it's all thanks to her long-time collaborator, nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar. The duo's association began during the making of Tashan, and since then, Diwekar says Kareena has more or less stuck to the same eating habits for the past 18 years. In fact, Kareena's consistency even played a pivotal role in Diwekar's career — inspiring her debut book Don't Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight, released in 2009. Speaking to The Lallantop, Diwekar detailed Kareena's current food routine: 'Dry fruits like almonds, raisins or figs as soon as she wakes up; paratha or poha for breakfast; dal and rice for lunch; cheese toast (sometimes) or mango/mango milkshake (seasonal) for evening snack; and khichdi with ghee/pulao for dinner.' According to her, Kareena leans toward rice and dal on shoot days, finding them easier to manage on set. On regular days at home, however, roti and sabzi are her go-to lunch. Diwekar also mentioned that khichdi with ghee is Kareena's dinner staple for almost 'four to five days a week.' The actor herself validated these choices while attending the launch of Diwekar's latest book Mitahara: Food Wisdom From My Indian Kitchen earlier this year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo She spoke of the discipline that defines her daily life: 'Dinner by 6 pm, lights out by 9:30 pm, morning workouts before the world wakes up.' Kareena also admitted in a chat with The Nod that late-night events aren't her scene, and that her friends respect her boundaries. Her idea of winding down? Watching Schitt's Creek on low volume before bed. While Kareena's food choices may sound relatable, they've sparked more than a few bizarre rumours over the years. 'The most joyfully ridiculous rumour I've heard about myself is that I eat quinoa and air to maintain my figure,' she quipped in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, during a conversation with Vicky Kaushal. The two also bonded over their mutual Punjabi love for parathas, with Kareena revealing she even had them for breakfast during her infamous size zero phase in Tashan (2007). Reminiscing at the book launch, Kareena also shared a glimpse of her younger self — a 'chubby kid' who had no qualms about finishing an entire bag of chips. And while she's undergone a transformative journey since then, there have been moments of vulnerability too — like after giving birth to her second son, Jeh, in 2021. 'I gained 45 kg,' she said, admitting that the change initially rattled her. But ultimately, she reminded herself of something simple yet powerful — that she had to 'grow to be comfortable in [her] skin again. '

‘Kareena Kapoor is on the same diet since 2007,' reveals dietician Rujuta Diwekar: ‘She has the same dinner four-five times a week'
Kareena Kapoor has piqued the curiosity of her fans for her diet over almost two decades now. Ever since she debuted her 'size zero' figure in Vijay Krishna Acharya's 2008 film Tashan, she's had quite a fitness journey. From becoming mother to two sons to now entering her 40s, she's maintained a healthy lifestyle. Now, her longtime dietician Rujuta Diwekar has revealed that Kareena has been following the same diet, more or less, for 18 years now. Rujuta began working with Kareena while the latter was prepping for Tashan. The dietician even credits Kareena for getting the opportunity to write her first book in 2009 — Don't Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight. That's pretty much been Kareena's diet mantra since then too. In an interview with The Lallantop, Diwekar reveals the breakdown of the actor's diet — 'Dry fruits like almonds, raisins or figs as soon as she wakes up; paratha or poha for breakfast; dal and rice for lunch; cheese toast (sometimes) or mango/mango milkshake (seasonal) for evening snack; and khichdi with ghee/pulao for dinner.' Diwekar pointed out that if Kareena is on set, she usually prefers rice and dal for lunch because rice is more accessible there. Otherwise if at home, she has roti-sabzi for lunch. Diwekar also said that Kareena prefers to have khichdi with ghee for four to five days a week. Kareena also confirmed the same as the special guest at the launch of Diwekar's new book Mitahara: Food Wisdom From My Indian Kitchen earlier this year. 'My cook is exhausted because I make him make the same food for 10-15 days. Same dal-rice, dahi (curd)-rice. He is like, what am I cooking? But I can be really happy eating khichdi five times a week. It works. It keeps me happy with a dollop of ghee,' said the actor. But she also added that she finishes dinner by 6:30 pm and goes to sleep by 9:30 pm everyday. 'Dinner by 6 pm, lights out by 9:30 pm, morning workouts before the world wakes up,' Kareena said in an interview with The Nod. She added that her friends expect her not to show up for late-night parties and respect her for the same. She prefers spending her last hour watching the Emmy Award-winning show Schitt's Creek on low volume at home. Kareena claimed that the most 'joyfully ridiculous rumour' she heard about herself is that she eats quinoa and air to maintain her figure. In a conversation with Vicky Kaushal on The Hollywood Reporter India, Kareena confessed their mutual Punjabi love for parathas and claimed she used to have parathas for breakfast even during her size zero training for Tashan in 2007.
