Crunch time for red-hot Eagle Sports in bid for league title

Eagle Sports made it 11 wins in a row on Friday by thrashing Lostock Gralam 4-0 (Image: Simon Hancock) BY extending their staggering winning run, Eagle Sports have put themselves on the brink of a first ever Cheshire Football League title. They will still need help from elsewhere but as they prepare for their final game of the CFL Premier Division season tonight, manager Danny Nixon wants his side to take care of their own business first and foremost. Eagle recorded an 11th consecutive victory on Friday night as they hammered Lostock Gralam 4-0 in their last home game of the season thanks to goals from Matty Saunders, Ed Burthem, Amir Hajri and Danny Burthem. Tonight, they wrap up their campaign with a trip to Crewe FC and if they can extend their run to 12, they will climb above current league leaders Poynton, whom they currently trail by two points. All eyes will then be on Poynton's final game of the season away at Middlewich Town – a date for which has not yet been confirmed – but if they rivals slip up, Eagle will lift the title. 'I'm extremely proud of the lads in what they have achieved over the last few weeks,' Nixon said. 'To win 11 straight games in any league is fantastic and is something that will rarely happen, so it's great to see how we've worked hard to get to this point. 'We've now given ourselves a chance to go top of the table on Wednesday and no-one expected that to be possible, so let's go to Crewe ready for one last battle to see if we can get the points. 'It will certainly be a tough game as it's not an easy place to go. 'One more 90 to go, three points to get then we can put our feet up and see what happens elsewhere.'

What's being said after new management team put in place at Barnton

BARNTON have looked close to home to appoint new joint managers. After an impressive spell in charge of Lostock Gralam, the Villagers' chiefs have taken Lewis Wood and Craig Humphries on board. The pair will be joined by coach Adam Blades, who also arrives from Lostock, and the new management team will officially take charge on Monday. Dave Bryning, Chris Royle, and Gary Bryning will oversee the team for Saturday's game at Wolverhampton Sporting Community. The aim now is to attempt to survive in North West Counties League First Division South, where they are currently tangled up in a relegation battle. Barnton chairman Dave Bryning said: 'For us as a committee, they were the stand-out candidates. 'They've done very well at Lostock, setting up a fit and well-organised team that is hard to beat and has achieved success. 'The other draw for us was the local element. They both know the area inside out, and there isn't a player in Northwich that they don't know about. 'We want that local core in the side, which will help us grow as a community club.' During their tenure at Lostock, Wood and Humphries led the team to victory in the JP Parker Cup for the first time in 54 years. Additionally, they guided the club to a second-place finish in the Premier Division, marking Lostock's highest-ever placing in the Cheshire Football League. Humphries said: 'We are delighted to be part of a fantastic club with such a rich history. Our ambition aligns with the club's, and it's time to get the club back up the league.' Wood added: 'As local lads, we're hoping the community can get behind us and really support both us and the club moving forward. 'We'll work tirelessly to bring back the good times, along with that family feel the club is looking for.' Their first game in charge will be at home against Eccleshall next Wednesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
