National Lottery reveals which Oasis star's name is luckier
As Oasis prepare to make their long-awaited return to Irish shores, the National Lottery has taken a deep dive into the historic data of previous winners. It turns out the Gallagher rivalry extends right into the jackpot stakes, with the lottery discovering which brother's name is luckier. The data doesn't lie, and it revealed that the winner in this race is Noel. The name Noel is luckier than Liam. Pic: Emmett/Fear PR/PA Wire Since 1988, players named Noel have appeared as winners of high-tier prizes 18% more often than those named Liam. This means that the Noels come out on top ahead of the Liams in this Gallagher rivalry. If you happen to be from Mayo, like the duo's mother Peggy Gallagher, you're certainly not 'looking back in anger'. Wednesday's jackpot is an estimated €15million. Pic: Shutterstock. The county has produced a whopping 209 National Lottery winners since its inception in 1988, giving a new meaning to 'west is best'. With the band back together, and the nation gearing up for a nostalgia-fuelled singalong, the National Lottery is tipping its hat to all past winners, especially the Noels, Liams, and indeed victorious Mayo locals. Meanwhile, this Wednesday's Lotto Jackpot rolls to an estimated €15million. Pic: AFP STRINGER/AFP via Getty Images Lotto players dreaming of becoming Ireland's next millionaire are reminded that tickets can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or at ahead of the 7.45pm cut-off time for sales on Wednesday evening. Darragh O'Dwyer, National Lottery spokesperson said: 'With Oasis returning to Irish stages, we thought it was the perfect time to explore how the Gallagher rivalry plays out in our own records. 'Looking at historic data, we've seen more high-tier wins associated with the name Noel than Liam, an interesting coincidence that adds a fun twist to the excitement around the band's reunion. 'Whether you're a Noel, a Liam, or from Mayo like the Gallaghers themselves, it's always fascinating to see the stories behind our winners.' Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to 'Good Causes' in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total, more than €6.5billion has been raised for 'Good Causes' since the National Lottery was established 37 years ago. In 2024 alone, €239.3million was raised for local 'Good Causes' in communities across Ireland. The National Lottery is only for those aged 18+ and they urge people to 'Support Responsibly'.

Biker dad will retire and buy wife a hot tub after £3,900,000 Lottery win
What's the first thing you do after wining the lottery? Have 10 cups of tea, I guess. That was the answer of Jon Waring, 57, and his partner Lucy, 48, when they woke up to discover he'd won the £3.9 million Lotto Jackpot from May 31. The pair have now decided to quit both their jobs too and have put a Harley-Davidson at the top of their wish list. Rock fan Jon played Lotto each week since the game started before waking up at 4am on June 1 to check his ticket. His Lotto numbers were 8, 11, 12, 16, 20 and 33 and he matched all six to claim the multi-million pound jackpot. He said: 'Something just made me go to check my emails and I saw an email saying I had won a prize. 'I went to Google the winning numbers and I knew they were mine. 'I turned my tablet off – left it five minutes – and then turned it back on to double and triple check! 'I woke Lucy and she said, still half asleep, 'is it 1 April?' I said 'No, it is June!' 'We just could not believe it – there was no way we were getting back to sleep! We just sat and drank tea – we must have had 10 cups between us.' The pair, who also have a 15-year-old daughter, are still in disbelief but have been very clear-headed about what they wanted to do next. Jon has already handed in his notice at Devon and Cornwall Police, where he has worked as a radio operator for 16 years. Wife Lucy, 48, is working her notice as a nurse at Torbay Hospital. Now its time for to kick back and relax for the couple who don't even have current passports. Jon explained: 'As a result of our shift work, we have not had a proper holiday together for a long, long time. According to the National Lottery website, the odds of winning the jackpots are: Thunderball top prize: 1 in 8,060,598 Lotto jackpot: 1 in 45,057,474 EuroMillions jackpot: 1 in 139,838,160 Set For Life top prize: 1 in 15,339,390 Before you go rushing out to buy a Thunderball ticket or two (or three), here, it's important to put the odds into perspective. There are many things more likely to happen than winning the lottery. According to Save The Student, you are almost five times more likely to be struck by lightning, 64 times more likely to be crushed by a meteorite, and 4,000 times more likely to win an Oscar. 'We are now really looking forward to booking something and knowing we can just holiday when we choose! Perhaps a trip to New Orleans for the music. 'It's all the things you dream about trying and seeing but know you never will – until something like this happens!' The biker dad wants to buy a Harley-Davidson trike bike first thing, while mum Lucy has a hot tub in her sights. They also want to upscale their family house, finding one big enough to hold a music room with a guitar display. Their new crib will also need a driveway big enough to hold the new car Jon wants to buy – an Audi Q7. He added, 'It's a complete change of lifestyle – it won't change us, but it will change what we can do! And the pace at which we do it too.' More Trending The Warings are one of more than 7,400 people who have won millions through The National Lottery since its launch in 1994. Their win came just weeks before one lucky person from Ireland scooped a £208 million EuroMillions jackpot. €250 million (£209,087,500), March 28, 2025, anonymous winner, Austria €250 million (£208,000,000), June 17, 2025, anonymous winner, Ireland €240 million (£200,733,952), December 8, 2023, anonymous winner, Austria €230 million (£192,376,378), July 19, 2022, anonymous winner, UK €220 million (£184,022,527), October 15, 2021, anonymous winner, Haiti (French Polynesia) €215 million (£179,830,489), May 10, 2022, Jess and Joe Thwaite, UK The person's identity isn't known yet, but the Irish National Lottery confirmed that one person has won the huge jackpot, equivalent to 250million Euros.
