The incident took place whilst she was performing in Chicago, when an air-conditioner blew the flames she was expelling back towards her. The star, from Manchester, has opened up to The Sun about the terrifying incident. She said: 'The air-con was too strong so when I blew the fire out it blew back to me. It set me on fire. I just remember being in so much pain, I blacked out for a little bit. It's crazy. 'It happened in front of everyone and I had to get on with it as professionally and quickly as I could. As soon as I got into the ambulance, I was in bits." She added: That was a scary, scary time. I couldn't breathe by myself, I couldn't eat, I couldn't really see, it was scary. I was pretty out of it but on day two I looked in the mirror and just cried.' Sophie spent a month in an intensive care clinic in America, before battling with a tumour which began growing on the side of her face. Becoming an activist Sophie has used her own experiences to become an activist, spreading awareness about unfair beauty standards and the importance of body positivity. She said: 'Life since the accident is definitely something I didn't expect because I just see myself as someone who went through something and thought my story could help others. 'My aim was never to get awards or receive that type of attention. With the platform I have now, I feel like I have not only a responsibility to others but a responsibility to myself to be a better person everyday and to always be evolving. Maya Jama looks incredible as she dives in the sea in thong bikini 'If people were to take a message from my story I'd say that beauty is always skin deep and your life is perfect just as it is. 'You just need to be yourself and accepting of life's roller coaster so love your perfectly imperfect life.' She has worked extensively with Katie Piper's charity and even wrote a hit book entitled In My Skin. 'Love Island has always tried to be about more than just looks and Sophie is a classic example of an Islander with real substance.' ITV has already announced that Maya Jama's show AfterSun will be returning, as well as the show's iconic narrator Iain Stirling. Love Island's 2025 launch date is REVEALED as iconic ITV show prepares to celebrate 10th Anniversary with a sizzling summer 'full of twists and turns'

The launch date for Love Island 2025 has finally been revealed, and fans don't have long to wait. As the iconic ITV show prepares to celebrate its 10th Anniversary, the new series will kick off on Monday 9th June, one week later than previous years. The last season of the ITV dating programme - which was the second All Stars version - wrapped up in March. Fans will be happy to know that it's not long before they will get their Love Island fix. On Monday (26 May 2025), a trailer was dropped ahead of the series. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Maya Jama - who starting hosting the show in 2023 - is seen in a boardroom called Love Island HQ and says: 'Right, this year Love Island needs something bigger, something bolder. I want ideas.' One person asks: 'Move it to the Isle of Wight?' Another asks: 'What if we turn it into musical?' leading Maya to sassily question the move with 'Why?' Another says in Japanese: 'Love Island, on ice?' to which Maya replies: 'Never!' Unhappy with all the suggestions, Maya pushes the paper off her desk and shouts: 'No!' She adds: 'This year I want more drama, more bombshells, more break-ups, more make-ups. I want more twists. I want more twists than ever.' It comes after the first Love Island star was revealed as a hunky 6'5 personal trainer. Londoner Aaron Buckett is rumoured to have been snapped up by ITV bosses to turn heads in the villa either as part of the 'opening line-up or as a tempting bombshell'. The gym enthusiast already boasts thousands of followers on both his TikTok and Instagram pages, where he regularly shares clips of his gruelling workouts. A villa source told The Sun: 'It's a fact of life that girls go crazy for a tall lad and Aaron is a man mountain. 'He's got great chat too. 'Aaron is in the mix for this year's cast but execs are still finalising whether he'll be in the opening line-up or as a tempting bombshell.' It comes after Maya gave an update which confirmed the dating show's return and sent fans wild. A short clip, which was shared to Instagram, revealed that Love Island would be back sooner than we thought. The video showed a letter being printed, which read: 'Attention: Love Island is coming soon. Attendance mandatory. 'Signed, CEO of love, Maya x'
