Rennes sporting director ‘anticipates' Arnaud Kalimuendo departure

Stade Rennais' new sporting director, Loïc Désiré, has revealed that the club are expecting Arnaud Kalimuendo (23) to leave the club this summer. In his first press conference since trading RC Strasbourg Alsace for Rennes, Désiré revealed the Breton club's intentions in the current transfer window. One of his main priorities is bringing down the size of the squad. Currently, there are around 40 players under contract. He wants to bring that number down to between 22-24. Advertisement There are expendables that Les Rennais are trying to get off their books, such as Birmingham City target Kyogo Furuhashi, however, some key players could also leave, such as Kalimuendo. As reported by L'Équipe earlier this month, the France youth international is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who next season will play in the UEFA Champions League. 'In this sector (up front), we are anticipating Kalimuendo's eventual departure,' said Désiré. Whilst there are not yet any offers on the table for the striker, that is not expected to remain the case for long. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Grégory Thil named head of recruitment at Strasbourg

RC Lens' former head of recruitment is set to replace Loïc Désiré in the same role at RC Strasbourg Alsace, as confirmed by the club's president, Marc Keller on RMC Sport show After Foot. Désiré has already left his role as Head of Recruitment at RC Strasbourg Alsace to become the sporting director at Stade Rennais. Advertisement Désiré was brought in at Rennes to replace the outgoing Frédéric Massara, who lasted just one season at the Breton club. Désiré's move away from Strasbourg was confirmed upon the conclusion of the Ligue 1 season. Thil is the man set to replace him at the Meinau. The Frenchman, who worked his way up the ladder at Lens to finally become the head of recruitment, left the club several months ago, however, he is now set for a new role, as confirmed by Keller. Notably, it was Thil who signed Abdukodir Khusanov at Manchester City. The now-Uzbekistan international was signed for just €100,000 back in 2023 before being sold to Manchester City for €50m just two years later. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Rennes interested in Auxerre's Gaëtan Perrin

It is set to be a summer of great change at Stade Rennais. There has already been a change in the hierarchy with Loïc Désiré coming in to replace Frédéric Massara as the club's sporting director and there will be plenty of changes in the playing staff, too. Getting players off the books will be a priority for Rennes. The Breton club recruited substantially in the past two transfer windows, however, very few of those signings paid off. Offloading the majority of them is therefore on Désiré's to-do list. However, he will also be working on incomings. Advertisement One of the names on his list is AJ Auxerre's Gaëtan Perrin (28), according to a report from Ouest-France. The right-winger was exceptional for L'AJA last season, scoring 10 goals and registering 11 assists in 35 games in Ligue 1. Having impressed, it is expected that Perrin will leave Auxerre this summer. Rennes would be more than willing to welcome him. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Rennes resigned to losing captain Adrien Truffert

Stade Rennais look resigned to losing their captain, Adrien Truffert (23), during the summer transfer window, according to a report from L'Équipe. France international Truffert has once again played a central role for Rennes this season in what has been a disappointing campaign. The Breton club went through three managers over the course of the campaign on their way to a mid-table finish. There will therefore be something of a revolution at the club over the summer. It has already started, in fact, with Loïc Désiré coming in to replace Frédéric Massara in the sporting director role. Advertisement There will also be an overhaul in the playing squad. Truffert, as club captain, is naturally a player that Rennes would like to retain, however, with the full-back's contract up at the end of next season, they don't look capable of retaining him. The defender was linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, whilst AS Monaco have previously been cited as a suitor. GFFN | Luke Entwistle
