Rennes resigned to losing captain Adrien Truffert
Stade Rennais look resigned to losing their captain, Adrien Truffert (23), during the summer transfer window, according to a report from L'Équipe.
France international Truffert has once again played a central role for Rennes this season in what has been a disappointing campaign. The Breton club went through three managers over the course of the campaign on their way to a mid-table finish. There will therefore be something of a revolution at the club over the summer. It has already started, in fact, with Loïc Désiré coming in to replace Frédéric Massara in the sporting director role.

There will also be an overhaul in the playing squad. Truffert, as club captain, is naturally a player that Rennes would like to retain, however, with the full-back's contract up at the end of next season, they don't look capable of retaining him. The defender was linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, whilst AS Monaco have previously been cited as a suitor.

Deschamps banking on France depth against 'best in the world' Spain
Didier Deschamps says France have the depth to challenge Spain in the Nations League semi-final even with three defenders missing through injury (Franck FIFE) France coach Didier Deschamps said his injury-hit side had the quality to trouble defending Nations League champions Spain in Thursday's semi-final, with Germany or Portugal awaiting the winner in the title match on Sunday. France will face the Euro 2024 winners Spain in Stuttgart missing first-choice defenders William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano and Jules Kounde who have 100 international caps between them. Speaking to reporters in Stuttgart on Wednesday, the 56-year-old said he remained confident. "When it comes to a match against Spain, with their attacking potential, it's not ideal but I wouldn't say we are weakened," he said. "I'm counting on the guys who play on Thursday." In attack France will be looking to Kylian Mbappe and freshly-minted Champions League winners Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain. Having left Everton for Standard Liege shortly after his first international start, the midfielder swapped Belgium for West Brom in January and already has eight goals in 20 caps. In Northern Ireland's history only Norman Whiteside - who scored his eighth international goal three weeks and six days after his 21st birthday - ever scored as many at such a young age. Throw in the fact that the June 2023 game also represented a first start for Trai Hume, another of O'Neill's captains who was integral to Sunderland's promotion to the Premiership this season, and the game can now be said to have represented a real glimpse into the side's future. Advertisement Since, the goalposts have moved with three defeats in 13 games, a run that began with a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture with Denmark, raising hopes that O'Neill could lead a second squad to a major tournament. With this window, where Northern Ireland will also host Iceland in Belfast on 10 June, representing the final games before qualification for the 2026 World Cup begins in September, the return to Copenhagen offers an interesting yardstick to measure progress.
