Masters 2025 prize money: What is the purse payout at Augusta National?

In addition to its historical significance, the Masters Tournament offers a lot to its winner: a lifetime exemption into this major, a five-year ticket to the other three, a silver trophy depicting the clubhouse and a lovely green jacket. As for prize money, Augusta National Golf Club doesn't release the official purse total until the weekend of the tournament. Last year's Masters paid out $20 million with $3.6 million going to champion Scottie Scheffler. Runner-up Ludvig Åberg earned $2.16 million while Tiger Woods claimed $39,600 for finishing last among those who made the cut.

Masters 2025 first round live updates, leaderboard: Follow Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau early at Augusta National

The 89th playing of the Masters is underway. The first major championship of the year got off and running on Thursday morning at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, starting with the annual ceremonial tee shot from Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson. From there, the quest for the iconic green jacket was on. Advertisement Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite this week after his win there last year. The top-ranked golfer in the world flew ahead to a four-shot win over Ludvig Åberg and the rest of the field on Sunday to claim his second career Masters win. Scheffler has three top-10 finishes so far this season on the PGA Tour, including a runner-up finish in his last start at the Texas Children's Houston Open. Rory McIlroy has the second-best odds entering the tournament, though he hasn't won a major championship since 2014 despite coming painfully close plenty of times. There are 12 LIV Golf members in the field this week, too, including 2023 winner Jon Rahm. Only seven of them have lifetime status from previous wins, though, which is only going to make things more difficult for the rest of the golfers on the Saudi Arabian-backed circuit to earn a spot in the field in the future so long as the golf world remains fractured. Stick with Yahoo Sports this week as we keep you up to date with the latest action from Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
