Season in Jeopardy! Texas baseball drops heartbreaker to UTSA, must now win 3 in a row After jumping out to a 6-1 lead through three innings, UTSA outscored the Longhorns 8-1 the rest of the way and beat Texas in game two of the Austin Regional of the NCAA baseball tournament. The Roadrunners 9-7 win over Texas means UTSA advance to the regional final. Texas must now win three straight to advance to the Super Regional. Texas starting Luke Harrison gave up one run through four innings, but struggled in the fifth. Harrison got tagged for four runs. His replacement, Max Grubbs, gave up three more. Suddenly Texas was playing from behind and could never catch the Roadrunners. When the sixth inning was over, UTSA held an 8-6 lead. Texas cut the lead to one run thanks to a solo shot by catcher Rylan Galvan in the seventh inning. Texas got the first two batters on first and second base in the bottom of the eighth. But UTSA pitcher Braylon Owens got short stop Jalin Flores to foul out, center fielder Will Gasparino to strike out swinging and two-sport star Jonah Williams to strike out looking to end the threat. The Roadrunners added and insurance run in the top of the ninth and that was it. UTSA advances to the championship game and get to chances at a win to advance to the Super Regional against the winner of the Los Angeles Regional. Texas will face an elimination game against Kansas State at 2 p.m. CT at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Wildcats eliminated Houston Christian earlier on Saturday, 7-4. The winner of the UT-KSU game will face the Roadrunners at 6 p.m. CT. If UTSA loses the nightcap, the two teams will play a winner take all game on Monday. Ten weeks after they engaged in a midweek battle, Texas and UTSA's baseball teams will raise the stakes. On Saturday night, Texas and UTSA will meet at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in the winner's bracket of the NCAA Tournament's Austin Regional. Texas opened its most-recent NCAA Tournament appearance with Friday's 7-1 win over Houston Christian while UTSA's 10-2 beating of Kansas State was the program's first-ever triumph in the NCAA Tournament. Advertisement The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the Austin Regional, Texas and UTSA have never faced each other in the postseason before. Texas owns a 26-7 lead in the all-time series between the two schools, but the Roadrunners did record an 8-7 win in Austin back on March 18.
