HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - A Hoffman Estates man was charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack on his 87-year-old neighbor on Thursday afternoon. Michael Fleming, 35, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery of a victim over the age of 60, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, according to Hoffman Estates police. What we know Around 3:39 p.m. on Friday, police responded to the 3500 block of Hillside Court for a report of a fight. Officers arrived and found an 87-year-old man with apparent cuts to his body, including the throat. The 911 caller told authorities that the other man involved in the fight had fled the scene. Before the victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, he told officers the name of the alleged suspect. A short time later, police found the suspect near Otis Road in Barrington Hills and arrested him without incident, and identified him as Fleming. The suspect is a known acquaintance of the victim. Cook County prosecutors approved charges against Fleming. Police said the alleged attack appeared to be isolated and there was no immediate danger to the public. At least one person has been shot outside Chicago O'Hare International Airport early Wednesday morning, police said. Police responded to a report of an altercation taking place between multiple individuals outside of Terminal 2 on the street, police said in a statement. The victim was immediately taken to Lutheran General Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. 69-year-old Des Plaines man dies after 2-car rollover crash late Saturday afternoon in Arlington Heights, police say

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — A 69-year-man from Des Plaines has died from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle rollover crash late Saturday afternoon in northwest suburban Arlington Heights, according to an update issued Sunday morning by the Arlington Heights Police Department. The man, who was driving a Jeep, received life-threatening injuries from the crash and was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge after being treated at the scene by paramedics from the Arlington Heights Fire Department. Young woman visiting friends at University of Illinois killed in Urbana hit-and-run crash The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by Lutheran General medical staff just before 4:15 a.m. Sunday, according to police. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has been notified of the man's death, but his identity is not being released until family has been notified. According to police, the crash occurred at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Bloomington Avenue, in the far northwest part of Arlington Heights. Police and fire personnel from Arlington Heights responded just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday to the crash, originally reported at a slightly different location, police say. Emergency personnel quickly located the crash further west at Bloomington Ave. 2 people in critical condition after overnight crash in north suburban Skokie, authorities say According a preliminary investigation, police say a dark gray BMW M340i was going east on Lake Cook Road above the speed limit. A metallic brown Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by the 69-year-old man, was pulling forward from a stop sign on Bloomington Ave., entering Lake Cook Road, when it was hit by the BMW on the driver's side, causing a 'T-bone-type impact.' Police say the crash caused the Jeep to roll over several times before coming to rest on the westbound side of Lake Cook Road. A significant intrusion into the Jeep's driver's side door was reported. Paramedics removed the 69-year-old man from the Jeep and immediately began life-support treatment. Meanwhile, police say the driver of the BMW, an 18-year-old male from Deer Park, and two teenage passengers were evaluated by paramedics and refused further care. They were then picked up by family and self-transported for medical evaluation.
