'The Daily Show' is on hiatus. Here's when it'll return.
Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" is on hiatus, but not for too long. The Emmy and Peabody award-winning late night comedy series is taking an extended break until September during its 30th season. The break comes after Jon Stewart, who propelled to fame during his first stint as host, returned as a one-day-a-week anchor in 2024. Trevor Noah (Stewart's first replacement) bridged most of the gap in hosting duties before leaving the desk in 2022. In addition to Stewart, episodes are hosted by comedians Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta. Lydic announced the break at the end of the latest episode in July. 'We're going on a production break for August, which was planned months and months ago. So don't freak out," said Lydic, alluding to the abrupt cancellation of fellow late night host Stephen Colbert's "The Late Show" on CBS. "Have a great summer and we'll see you in September when we can all freak out together," Lydic said. Daily Show roasts Republican outrage over Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad controversy
The Daily Show waded into the heated controversy surrounding Sydney Sweeney's recent American Eagle campaign, using satire to highlight the political uproar over the ad's slogan, which critics say echoes language from the eugenics era. Host Desi Lydic opened Thursday's episode by mocking the escalating backlash — not just toward the ad, but toward those criticizing it. The ad, which features Sweeney in denim beneath a tagline deemed by some as racially loaded, was met with condemnation from online commentators and civil rights advocates. In response, conservative voices, including White House communications director Steven Cheung, labeled the criticism 'cancel culture run amok.' Lydic humorously dismantled these defenses, pointing to the overuse of words like 'sensual' by pundits and highlighting Megyn Kelly's contradictory stance — defending Sweeney after previously mocking her. 'This is such bullshit. Blonde women have had constant representation, okay?' Lydic said. 'It's not that they want to see more white women, it's that they want to see none of anyone else.' The original ad's phrase — criticized for its nostalgic tone and undertones — stirred concern over its resemblance to exclusionary rhetoric used in historical population control narratives. While Sweeney has remained silent, The Daily Show used the controversy to highlight how representation in media continues to spark deeply polarized reactions. Beyond the jokes, Lydic's commentary echoed broader concerns about selective outrage and racial representation in advertising. The segment ended with a reminder that cultural discourse, especially when it comes to race and gender, remains a lightning rod in American politics — and a frequent target for satirical commentary. As The Daily Show demonstrated, pop culture controversies continue to serve as mirrors reflecting deeper societal divides — and prime material for late-night reflection.

'Daily Show' Uncovers The Brutal Reason Behind Trump's Scotland Trip
'Daily Show' correspondent Desi Lydic roasted President Donald Trump on Tuesday over his five-day trip to Scotland, a visit he used to play at — and promote — his golf courses. 'Trump is in Scotland right now, seeing as his favorite island destination has been shut down,' she quipped as a picture of Trump with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein appeared on screen. The jab comes after Trump — in his meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday — continued to downplay his relationship with Epstein by claiming that he never had 'the privilege' of visiting a private island that belonged to his old friend in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Lydic went on to stress that while it's important for a president traveling overseas to 'project strength and dignity,' an 'uninvited insect made that a little harder' for Trump this time around. She then turned to a clip — backed by Donna Summer's 'Hot Stuff' — of Trump swatting the air around his head as he grabbed a golf club from his bag at the opening of his new course in Scotland. Lydic swiftly mocked Trump's hand motions. 'What is this? Is he voguing? Shoo fly! Sashay away,' she joked. 'It feels like Trump's accidental dance moves are way more impressive than his intentional ones. Anyway, I do understand why he was so frantic, that mosquito was also asking Trump about Jeffrey Epstein.' She later shook her head in disappointment after she played a clip of Trump at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for his new course on Tuesday. 'Is this his side hustle or is America his side hustle?' she asked. She later continued, 'The point is, we're just used to this now but imagine if when Obama was in office he kept flying on Air Force One to open up Pizza Hut-Taco Bell franchises.' 'Daily Show' Spots The 1 Way Elon Musk's Trump Friendship Isn't So 'Cyber-F**ked'
'Daily Show' correspondent Desi Lydic roasted ex-White House adviser Elon Musk on Thursday after he showed how his 'unsalvageable' friendship with President Donald Trump proved to be not-so-'cyber-fucked' after all. Lydic — after briefly summing up the 'ugly' falling-out between the two, including Musk's claim that Trump is in the Jeffrey Epstein files — turned to the billionaire's reveal this week that he regrets some of his posts about the president, writing that they 'went too far.' Lydic swiftly dismissed Musk's backtrack. 'I mean, I'm glad he apologized because I guess it showed us exactly how long it takes for ketamine to wear off,' she quipped of Musk who's been accused of heavy drug use including ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic. Moments earlier, she stressed that you can't 'whoopsie-daisy your way' out of saying someone's in the Epstein files. 'It's not like saying, 'Sorry, I slammed the door,' or 'Sorry I shoved marbles up your cat's butt,'' added Lydic in a partial dig at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who recently made a bizarre feline claim while weighing in on a 'boondoggle' in the Pentagon's medical research budget. ‘Daily Show' Audience Erupts Over Desi Lydic's Trump Parade Realization
'The Daily Show' host Desi Lydic found a potential silver lining in the astonishing cost of the U.S. Army's upcoming 250th anniversary parade — which also happens to fall on President Donald Trump's 79th birthday. Saturday's celebrations in Washington, D.C. will reportedly cost up to $45 million ― with up to $16 million of that figure going to repair the city's streets after they have been trampled on by heavy tanks. '$45 million and a third of that is just you ripping up the roads?' asked Lydic. 'People don't usually throw down that hard unless they're moving out the next day,' she pointed out. Then came the realization. 'Wait!' said Lydic. 'Is Trump moving out the next day?' she asked, as the audience erupted in cheers. 'Could it be?' she added.
