Sahitya Akademi auditorium to be named after M.T., library after Lalithambika Antharjanam
In a tribute to two literary greats, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi will name its auditorium as the Kerala Sahitya Akademi M.T. Auditorium in honour of Jnanpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair and its library as the Lalithambika Antharjanam Memorial Library. The naming ceremonies will be held during the International Literature Festival of Kerala (ILFK) from August 17 to 21. On the opening day, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially name the auditorium, while Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal will name the library during the festival's valedictory session on August 21. Delegate registrations for the literature festival are ongoing. Participants can register in person at the ILFK office at the akademi or online at The registration fee is ₹500 for the general public and ₹250 for students and persons with disabilities.

Special photo exhibition at RIFFK showcases MT's cinematic journey
As part of the Regional International Film Festival of Kerala (RIFFK), a special photo exhibition titled 'Kaalam: Maayachithrangal' was inaugurated on Thursday (August 7, 2025) at Kairali Theatre, Kozhikode, in honour of late legendary writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the exhibition has been curated by film historian and photographer R. Gopalakrishnan and showcases over 100 rare photographs from M.T.'s illustrious cinematic journey. The exhibition was inaugurated by M.T.'s wife Kalamandalam Saraswathi and daughter Aswathi V. Nair. C. Ajoy, Secretary, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and Executive Director of RIFFK, and Sunil Ashokapuram, Chairperson of the Exhibition Committee, also spoke. Noted critic M.M. Basheer, former Head of the Malayalam Department at the University of Calicut, shared fond memories of his close friendship with M.T. M.T.'s daughter also shared a few heartfelt words about her father. A.K. Abdul Hakeem, author and convenor of the Exhibition Committee, was present.

Regional IFFK to kick off in Kozhikode on August 8
After a seven-year hiatus, Kozhikode is all set to host the Regional International Film Festival of Kerala (RIFFK) from Friday (August 8, 2025). The much-awaited four-day event will begin on August 8 and conclude on August 11 with screenings at Kairali, Sree, and Coronation cinemas. Cinephiles have responded enthusiastically, with over 1,400 delegate registrations prompting the organisers to close online registration. However, spot registration will continue at Kairali where delegate passes will be distributed from 11 a.m. on August 7. A photo exhibition honouring the late writer and Jnanpith Award winner M.T. Vasudevan Nair and his cinematic journey will be inaugurated at the same venue. While screenings will commence from August 8 morning, the official inauguration will be held at 5 p.m. The festival will showcase 58 films from around the world, including 14 titles from the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) competition section. Highlights include Brazil's Malu, winner of the IFFK Golden Crow Pheasant Award, and Iran's Me, Maryam, the Children and 26 Others by Farshad Hashemi, winner of the Silver Crow Pheasant for Best Director. Fazil Muhammed's Malayalam film Feminichi Fathima, recipient of the IFFK Audience Jury Award, is also part of the lineup. Other notable screenings include Underground: Orange (Chile), Memories of a Burning Body (Costa Rica), Linda (Argentina), Human (Spain), Elbow (Turkey), East of Noon (Egypt), and An Oscillating Shadow (Chile). Indian entries feature Appuram (Malayalam) by Indu Lakshmi, Body (Hindi), and Rhythm of Dammam (Konkani) by Jayan Cherian. The festival's 58 films are divided into World Cinema (14), Indian Cinema (7), and Malayalam Cinema (11) sections. The Kaleidoscope section features Malayalam and Assamese films, while Female Gaze and Festival Favourites will present three and five films, respectively. Veteran actress Shabana Azmi's film Ankur will also be screened.
