More tamu desa to be built in Sabah, Sarawak this year
KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) will construct more 'tamu desa' (rural traditional markets) in Sabah and Sarawak this year, to enhance rural market facilities and empower entrepreneurs in both states. Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the MADANI Government, through KUSKOP, had allocated RM20 million to implement the Tamu Desa Development Project this year. He added that this included an additional RM10 million announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the MADANI Rakyat Programme in Tawau last month. 'Last year, we successfully built and upgraded 98 tamu desa across Sabah and Sarawak. This year, with an allocation of RM20 million, I hope the same number or more can be built,' he said in a statement today. He was speaking after officiating the Kampung Pinasang Tamu Darat Kaamatan Festival in Kota Belud and subsequently launching the village's tamu desa, which was completed this year at a cost of RM250,000. Ewon said 14 tamu desa were built in the Kota Belud area, part of the 98 premises completed across Sabah and Sarawak last year. 'I have been informed by the village leaders that these premises greatly benefit the residents, especially mothers and small entrepreneurs who conduct business weekly. They not only provide a more comfortable space for selling but can also be used for various community activities on other days,' he said. According to him, the requirements for tamu desa development vary depending on the location and scope of work determined by the District Office, whether for new construction or upgrading, involving costs ranging from RM100,000 to RM300,000. As of May this year, he said, applications for new construction or upgrading of tamu desa premises in Sabah had reached RM40 million, including applications carried over from last year that could not be implemented, and this amount did not yet include applications from Sarawak 'Although our budget is limited, what is important is the continuity of what was implemented last year. What we started last year will be continued and expanded this year. I am confident that this programme will be among the key inputs of the ministry in the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026–2030),' he said. The tamu desa initiative was also part of the government's commitment to pay special attention to the needs of rural Sabah and Sarawak, in line with the nation's inclusive development agenda, he added.

PMR 2025 Johor Concludes, Draws Over 130,000 Visitors
JOHOR BAHRU, May 25 (Bernama) – The MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 Johor held at Toppen Shopping Centre here concluded today, recording over 130,000 visitors throughout its three-day run. Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) Deputy Secretary-General (Management), Abdullah Hasan said the figure exceeded the earlier target of 25,000, with an overwhelming turnout especially on Saturday and today (Sunday). He explained that the moderately scaled PMR Johor also achieved its objectives by serving as a two-way communication platform that not only informed the public about government achievements and services, but also provided space for citizens to share their views and feedback directly with government agencies. 'With the organisation of PMR, the people are able to witness first-hand the improvements that have been made and understand how they can benefit from the various initiatives offered,' he said when met by reporters on the final day of the programme. Earlier, the PMR Johor Secretariat reported that the total number of visitors over the three-day period was 136,395. This edition of PMR 2025 Johor was led by KBS as the organising ministry, in collaboration with the Johor State Secretary's Office as host, and was part of the efforts of the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) under the Prime Minister's Department to bring the government to the people. With the theme 'Belia MADANI: Yakin Boleh!' , the event aligned with the aspirations of the MADANI Government and fulfilled the goals of youth development policy. 'This time, we tailored the programme to the aspirations of young people, offering a variety of content that is not only informative but also provides opportunities for youth to actively participate in various self-development initiatives and programmes,' Abdullah said. Among the offerings were exhibitions and service counters by government agencies, career opportunities, educational and training information, and various entrepreneurship initiatives targeted at the youth.

Public Gaining Deeper Understanding Of MADANI Govt's Aspirations
GENERAL JOHOR BAHRU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The enthusiastic response to the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) is a clear sign that the public is increasingly embracing and understanding the aspirations of the MADANI Government, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. He said the three-day Johor PMR, which is being held at Toppen Shopping Centre, was the first to be organised on a medium scale, adding that as of yesterday, it had managed to draw over 45,000 visitors, far surpassing the initial target of 10,000. "One more day to go. Insyallah, we can reach up to 50,000 visitors. This reflects the growing public interest in government-led programmes," he told reporters today. Johor PMR 2025 involves 19 ministries and agencies, with a special focus on youths carrying the theme "Belia MADANI, Yakin Boleh!". The main highlights of the programme include direct government services such as two-hour passport renewals by the Immigration Department, traffic summons inquiry and payment counters, and other services provided by the state government and federal agencies. Shamsul Azri said such programmes provide the public with direct exposure to the MADANI concept, which is the foundation of the country's administration. "We want the people to understand what MADANI is and the message the government is trying to convey by hosting such programmes. The public can see the initiatives and facilities provided for their welfare," he said. He said the public might not fully understand government policies, but the programme's face-to-face interaction makes explanations more effective. "Everything we do is for the people. We go down to the ground to engage with the public so that no one feels marginalised and knows that the government is always by their side," he added.
